The site is still experienced some minor bugs that are being looked into. For now the first post of a thread isn't showing. You can reply to a thread, but you can't see the starting post. In fact, now that I have posted, my post will show as the first post.

For a while there replies could not be made to posts. Whenever I tried to make a reply it said I could not post within 30 seconds of making a previous post. Something very weird went on there...

There was a space of several hours where as far as I could tell, no replies were made to any threads in any of the forums.

But during the time the problems were occuring there was no information on that page. I assume the information there was posted only after the forums were working as normal again.

EDIT Not quite. For most of the time the forums were down there was no information, but in the last few hours of the problems, http://www.civfanatics.net/ showed that something was wrong and moderators were sorting it out.

I'm not sure what time you are talking about, but as you can see from that page Ori first posted about it at 2:20 am ET. An update was added in at noon ET and then TF added another update at 1:40 pm ET, with a final update at 2:50 pm ET. That's twelve and half hours of coverage, which in my opinion is pretty good.

Ok I could've sworn that for about 5 hours at least, from roughly 3am to 8am (ET), the forums were not working.

ori said it started occuring at 2.20am but I'm pretty sure he didn't make the post at that time. I could be mistaken though.

I was fairly sure there was no message on that page for several hours at least, because I was checking reasonably regularly (it was 7pm to midnight for me).

It doesn't actually bother me or anything.. I'm just saying the status message was not up for quite some time, while the forums were not working, so the status page was not exactly useful during that time. I doubt many in the US would have noticed at all though, and would have seen the message by the time it was made (maybe between 9am and noon ET)

The forum stopped working at 2:20 am ET - which was evident from the time the last posts where made. I made my announcement at about 9 am ET - the forum was still down at that point and only came back up for the first time around noon.
The blog is quite new (a week old) and we have to get used to it being around and how it works (it took me half an hour to post something - in future I'll be much faster in that respect) - so if there is any need for further announcements in the future we will probably be faster in putting announcements up. Of course making a post there requires that a moderator is aware that there is a forum problem in the first place and since all of us claim to be humans with a real life :mischief: there is not always one online - so that we will likely never be instantaneous in making an announcement.
If you have problems posting in the future or witness any other forum problems that don't sort themselves out within a short time frame - please report these problems :) If posting does not work sending a pm or email to one or more moderators/admins might help in getting the problem noticed much faster :)

Agreed ori. We can't exactly expect you to be online between 2am and 9am in the morning. :p That leads me to a question though.. Are any moderators outside both of the US and Europe?

It's ok, it just means the blog page is probably only going to be useful when the forums go down in reasonable hours ET.

In any case, the past 2 weeks or so are the only times I've ever seen large interruptions anyway, so it's no big deal.

there is at least one mod in Asia - but mostly its Europe and the US - and this should cover most hours - once we are all acquainted with the blog (i.e. actually remember that it is there to post problems :mischief:)...
It will get better in the future (though I fear the improvement in it will be much faster if the forum goes down more often and we need to post there more often - so I am not sure what to wish for ).

To say the truth, at 1 PM GMT time, the chatroom linked to civfanatics.net had in the topic the intel that the mods knew of the issue and they were working on it. So I was not completely in the dark..... but it was a very tortuous way of warning ppl, I reckon :p

I wasn't able to access the malfunctioning time period of the forum when I tried at all. I was able to read a notice. So it worked for me.

A lot of life is timing.

I agree, but apart from the thing rolo mentioned, from 2:20am ET to 9am ET there was no message. In fact I think the thing rolo is talking about is the message that was made at 9am. If you logged on after 9am you would have seen the message, of course. Is that when you are referring to? Or did you look at tne notice from the previous downtime?

Somewhere in the 2:20am to 9am (ET) I think this thread had been created, but the first post could not be seen. I entered this thread and it was literally empty when it was created. When Methos put a message in the thread I think it was a lot later than when it was created.

No, I'm not talking about the 9 am EST message ( it wasn't there , I remember it clearly ... I even :gripe: Methos on IM because of that and it was because of that that Methos posted in here ). Civfanatics.net has a irc chatroom in the links to the right. In there the topic included a message that the mods knew of the problem and that they were working on it.

But given that civfanatics.net was made to inform ppl of crashes and similar, I wonder why the mod that changed the topic of the irc chat room didn't posted on civfanatics.net proper.

I don't recall times. Typically I go to bed around 2 or 2:30 eastern and get up around 9 eastern , so I was most probably on the margin. I was unable to reach the forums directly on more than one occaision, even when it was supposedly working. When I thought to look at the link, I got an explanation.

I'd guess that I saw the earlier explanation with an earlier problem, and the 9AM message pretty close to 9AM

I never saw this thread until Methos posted.

Ah ok I understand what you meant now.

@Rusty Edge, you are right about it all depending on the timing.

If you're in the part of the world that's usually asleep between 2am and 9am you'd likely have barely noticed a problem. Elsewhere, where 2am (EST) is between about 6 and 8pm, the problems were very obvious, with no message on the civfanatics.net.

The reason I replied to your post easlier was you said to me "A lot of life is timing", and I took that to mean there was some responsibility on me? It's just for nearly 7 hours I could not make any posts and I had to figure out myself why every reply I tried to make was coming up with errors about double posts etc. Each post I had prepared I had to save in other text files and eventually post when the forums were working again.

I'm glad there's no ill-will or misunderstanding, because I enjoy posting with you.

" A lot of life is timing " is just sort a catch phrase I have to explain what is usually luck.

A second can mean the difference between life and death on the highway, or a game -winning goal in a sporting event. A day's difference in when you ask a manager for a job or a girl for a date or buy a lottery ticket might change the course of your life.

There still seems to be something a bit wrong with the forum. Quite often, after clicking "post quick reply" all I get is that little ring chasing its tail (I'm on Vista, alas) which it can do for several minutes: then I lose patience, get off the net, re-connect to the forum and there's my post, sometimes double.
