Okay,
I bit the bullet and manually deleted every file from my hard drive related to Civ4. Then, following the advice of several other threads, I deleted the following file:
C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{CFBCE791-2D53-4FCE-B3FB-D6E01F4112E8}
I then opened regedit and deleted these entries:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Uninstall\{CFBCE791-2D53-4FCE-B3FB-D6E01F4112E8}
Now, when I go to install Civ4, I get the following error message:
The setup has detected that version 1.61.000 of Sid Meier's
Civilization 4 is already installed.
This setup installs an earlier version of Sid Meier's Civilization 4
(1.09)
You will half to uninstall the previous version before installing
this version.
When I go into the control panel to Add or Remove Programs and attempt to delete either game, I get the following message:
Setup.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
If you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost.
Then, oddly, I have two options: Debug or close. There isn't the standard "report this problem to Microsoft" button.
I've been working on this for two days and it's driving me b*gf*cking nuts!
