Anyone who's followed my work in the Civ2 forums on the Heroes of Might & Magic 2 mod knows I'm a big HoMM fan and am always on the look out for similar games. Well we've got another one called Stormbinders! As it looks like Slitherine who recently published the Master of Magic remake are doing another fantasy strategy game but this time a more Heroes of Might & Magic game that clearly takes inspiration from Songs of Conquest's hybrid 2D pixel art in a 3D world style.

There's no trailer yet as Slitherine plan to properly announce and show more of it on their next live stream on April 10th. From the early shots I'm seeing on the Steam page it's graphics aren't exactly mind blowing but are promising and hopefully the developers will up the coloured lighting and effects like some of the above games have to polish it's appearance it's in the future.

Modest budget indie HoMM like games seem to be all the craze these days with games like Songs of Conquest, Silence of the Siren, Songs of Silence, and the officially licensed Heroes of Might & Magic Olden Era, so it's pretty cool to have yet another one on the way!

The Stormbinders Showcase event has aired.. Storms affecting the map and battles will be interesting and it's kinda nice to see the changing terrain in the castle screens like HoMM4 had.. but otherwise I'm not seeing much difference to HoMM. Hell the 4 factions are pretty much a rip off of HoMM5s lol! But hey.. looks like fun!

What's your take on those ?
I haven't tried any of these new 'HoMM like' games yet as most have not fully released yet, and the ones that have feel like they'd be better if I wait until their DLC & patch plans reach completion. But I'm liking what I'm seeing! In particular Silence of the Siren converting the HoMM formula into a scifi game and adding quite a number other interesting additions not seen in HoMM games before.
