Strange bugs in DosBox versions

Decided to replay Civ II again. Every copy I download has the same bugs. Specifically, music will work for awhile then nothing. Also, In the original game, every so often, a pop-up would show "So and So lists the happiest/richest/biggest army,etc". This was great to see where your rank was money/troops/science. Every copy I've downloaded (from various sites) have the same bug: ONLY ranking of "happiness" pops up- every time. None of the others. There are some other strange things that happen that I can't put my finger on, but I KNOW they didn't happen in my 1996 CDROM version I owned. I've tried Dosbox, virtual machines, etc. What a pain, either won't mount a cd so no music, or only opens in tiny window, or the bug I described. Anyone know a stable ISO file of the original cd online?

I'd try the Civ 2 MGE version; it's easier to install, plus you can run it through a patch that fixes bugs and adds new features.

I guess you are right. Civ 2 has been abandonware for years and free to get, but if every single version availible online is buggy, it's not worth playing. I will look for MGE.

WOW...A quick search for MPG on ebay shows it's going for $150. Yeah, didn't pay that for Civ 7 so it's not happening.
