How do you deal with it?

Me, I basically dont... terrible at managing it. I tend to not acknowledge it and then get sort of down for a few days til I work out whats bugging me.

I stop drinking tea and coffee, since it just prolongs the stress. Take a day off, and sleep a lot. Play some civ!

It depends on what kind of stress. For me it varies from just going to bed and sleeping, to physically hitting something. Somewhere inbetween those two points I may nuke some Civs, shovel snow, or -- when my old Amiga computer still worked right and I could play Ports of Call -- I would crash my ships into everything I could, and see how long they would function before sinking and drowning the 15 sailors.

There was one time I was really stressed out and took my energy out on the cookies I was making. All the extra energy put into stirring the batter (not to mention miscounting the amount of cocoa) made those the best cookies I ever made! :crazyeye:

thats the tning, I canrt sleep properly when I'm stressed, keep waking poxy up

Get a book, cartoons etc. Read untill you get tired. When you wake up, start reading again, and stay in bed. Soon it will calm you down, and you can sleep again. Keep doing it.

I don't get stressed.
If I can't get enough sleep because of experiments, noise, girlfriends or whatever, the solution is to drink something caffeinated and make sure that I get enough sleep in the next few nights.

I've learned to know what stresses me, and how to react. Proactively dealing with stress has the best rate-of-success for me. After that, I'm one of those guys who can't sleep very well when I'm stressed, and I've learned that listening to my podcasts is a great method of falling back asleep.

I only work well during stress. Stressful periods of my life have always been by far the most productive.

I suggest doing whatever you feel like doing in the moment. :) What I mean is that if you wake up in the middle of the night worried about something, do some quick actions to prevent a little of that and put your mind at peace. :) Or... I don't know. I'm not exactly typical in this regard so my advice is probably not worth much.

You're Irish....whatever happened to just getting drunk?

But in dealing with stress:

Do some work that you have been putting off....the sense of accomplishment will make you feel better.

Do something physically challenging...a good workout will help a lot.

Getting drunk is my preferred option, but I only do that at weekends...

Going to the gym does help, but frankly not much, no matter how much excersize I do.

The stress seeps in, spoils my mood, makes me procrastinate more and keeps me from going to bed early. As a result I wake up horsehockyfaced the next day, wanting nothing else to go to bed early and then when my girlfriend comes around I vent all my problems and she makes me feel better.

I'd say that the best way to get rid of it, is to get active and to get talking. Remove the obstacles, get that . .. .. .. . out of your system and find things that make you laugh and that you look forward to.

And to whoever said play civ, this doesn't help when you're playing on emperor or above. Starting with Saladin, Charlemagne and Gilgamesh as your neighbours is just ..

There is something on your mind and you need to resolve it, before your mind will allow you to rest easily. I find when i have been too lazy my body starts to lock up, i get aches and pains and can't concentrate for long. This is a sign that the body needs exercise to releave the stress that has built up in the body over time. The exercise can be anything from running, swimming, boxing, or even Yoga, anything that will allow your body to release this stress from the body in a controlled manner. You see the body uses exercise to facilitate the minds stress hormone, which build up over time. These hormones that tense up the large muscles groups, allow the muscles to relax after a good workout.

Mirc I think you're confusing stress with being under pressure. Stress usually makes it harder to get things done, because you over-react, while being under preassure forces you to get things done quick and effective.

Clean things. Clean them obsessively. And make to-do lists. Lots of lists.
