sometimes I get the impression you take absolutely everything literal, but then

I gotta say I entirely agree with this, it's not even subtle. especially barbie girl. it's a good song imho.

even tho the 90s is probably my least favorite decade, I think it's still an absolutely great one. damn, I wrote up a whole list for ya and it disappeared. so just the essentials I guess, I hope you'll like (or you likely alrdy know) some of those:

portishead - dummy and s/t, cocteau twins - heaven or las vegas, nick cave - let love in / the good son / murder ballads, a tribe called quest, aphex twin - selcted ambient works 1/2, dirty three - ocean songs, dj shadow - endtroducing, erykah badu - endtroducing, flaming lips - the soft bulletin, goldie - timeless, godspeed you! black emperor - f sharp a sharp (infinity), the prodigy - experience and music for the.., massive attack - mezzazine, melvins - stoner witch, my bloody valentine - loveless, nas - illmatic, biggie - ready to die, the orb - orbus terrarum

these are just my absolute favorites from half the catalogue, I left out most rap and electronic acts cuz they'd overwhelm the others, tho the 90s had excellent rock and jazz music, too

This song sound stupid, and is stupid, but I like it nevertheless, and it's in my mix-tape back in the day :smoke:, but as a comedy this song is quite spot on.

I didn't post it as "stupidest", certainly. We are just running out of songs that are both dreadful and very famous :)
Imo it was a pretty cool song.

Well yeah, that's my avatar, despite the clips is somewhat parodical but the song itself I don't really consider it to sound stupid. It is actually really great music, great guitar riff and other instrument also able to support the build up of the music, and not to mention the vocal, the music itself very much out of their usual musical character but they able to back-it up good. Pretty much show their quality as a musician I guess?

Nitzer Ebb's "Getting Closer" is a cult favorite in the Industrial Techno genre. And then I listened to the lyrics and I'm like "No! That is NOT what Industrial Techno is supposed to be about!".

Spoiler What's the song about? :
Its two barters haggling over a price

I thought they had at least 1 decent album when whatshisname from the Smashing Pumpkins helped Courtney with a few songs. A little side trivia, Marilyn Manson apparently made him mad after he shaved his head, Manson said he looked like Charlie Brown.

All these European line-dance knock-offs and nobody's posting the genuine article, so sad :( (note this is another song I honestly enjoy)

    Link to video.

Little off topic but I've toyed with the idea of starting a 'CFC Album Club' thread for stuff like this. That being the sort of concept that streaming services and Youtube make possible nowadays. Idea being, participants suggest an album, they get put into a list and then one gets randomly selected each week and we all listen and give our opinions, or something like that.

Plus if I'm in the thread then everyone else is guaranteed not to have the worst taste. (See example: Billy Ray Cyrus)

Billy Ray popularised mullets, Miley popularised white girls twerking, so in terms of cultural malaise I'd say it's a dead heat.

(Miley has the good tunes though.)

In keeping with the spirit of the thread the stupidest Miley Cyrus song is probably the below, although it's in a spoiler because it's not from the 90s.

They were kind of catchy. They wanted specifically to make a contagious party anthem - and they did that well. There's no deep lyrics or complex, tricky musical scores, and there weren't at all intended to be.

Vengaboys has always been party/dance music.

Crap, this song has been haunting me all day, I hate you :gripe:.

    Probably true.
EDIT: Oh god, there's an official video to "Hyper Hyper", aaahhh....

But hey, I guess you owe us now the worst 90s contribution of Switzerland... (the EDM one, you know...) :D
