Successioin game: join in

I'm not sure why, but my computer isn't defragmenting properly, and I have no idea why. Just to be on the safe side, I won't participate in the succesion game.

Jade: Yeah, go ahead. It doesn't really matter now that we've gotten a little ways into the game.

Garf: That's too bad :( Oh well. Hope you can rejoin ASAP, and that whatever's wrong with your comp gets fixed quickly.

Yup, I'm here. (but I think I blinked along the way.)

I'm working my way through D+3 right now when RL allows me to have a chance. Next player can either step in or wait for me (should break free in a couple of days or so.) :(

Andu Indorin never let me know if he's playing next or not, and I'd like some people to play before me, so if Specialist doesn't mind, we can wait a few days :)

I finished my D+3 obligation & downloaded the .1sav...

Warlord??!!

On a difficult map...well we'll just have to see... :scan:

Hmmmm 15 turns sure go fast in the beginning -- but then again, I tend to play a wee bit too carelessly.

Yes, the ground looks less than grand -- in fact if we want to have irrigation some day, lakes will need to be cherished carefully.

First the save...

...And the thoughts that go with it.

3720 BC -- we have a settler & a warrior -- one close and one far, faaaaaarr away....

Recall the warrior to do a looksee closer to home. Meanwhile the settler starts to road the shielded grassland.

3700 -- 3660 -- the Warrior moves back east & southeast checking out the rough terrain. The Settler finishes the road & and the citizen begins to work it. Settler moves south for new lands.

3620 (5) -- see another grass (with shield) SE of the lake -- start roading it in anticipation of it being part of the soon to be built city.

3560 (8) -- Warrior stops by a small village (124,96) and picks up a new horseman friend (supported by Ottawa) Still continues east.

3500 (11) -- Hey we're most advanced!

3480 (12) Now that we have a horse, disband the warrior in Ottawa for the shields.

3460 (13) Horse finds the bottom of the world!

3440 (14) Found Hamilton, SE of Ottawa; have the citizen work the shielded grassland.

3420 (15) Horse visits another small village (133,97) & collect 50 coins -- we're rich, rich, rich! (but do not pass go, nor continue.)

Had a look at the save, and I noticed one important thing: YOU ARE EXPANDING MUCH TO SLOWLY!! If this is a 1 continent map, there is plenty of land, and you won't run into neighbours early on, most likely, because the map is very big. You should also change the workers in Ottawa to the furs, and rush finish the settler next turn. Remember the "Iron River", it will be very usefull for a settlement, so: SEND A SETTLER TO EXPAND ON THE RIVER!!

Well, it doesn't look like Andu Indorin is going to play, so if no one objects, I'll go now. By the way, if anyone still wants to join, you can :-)

Go for it. Garf hasn't said anything about getting his comp fixed, so I'd just assume he's still having problems.

Please forgive me: I got a little carried away, and played slightly more than fifteen turns...it's kinda easy to do that when the game is early on. Anyways, here's the timeline:

3400 B.C. -> Horsemen advance to explore eastwards of Hamilton.

3380 B.C. -> Canadian wise men discover the secret of Code of Laws.

3360 B.C. -> Ottawa produces settlers. Ottawa is now working to train a regiment of Phalanx for the defense of the city.

3340 B.C. -> Wandering nomads found by our exploring horsemen. They join our Civ.

3320 B.C. -> New settlers (Nomads) travel to Hamilton to work on the surrounding lands. They are "NONE" units, so they can be kept to do work for a while without needing support.
-> Ottawa's settler's are, meanwhile, traveling to a location far west of Ottawa to found a new city.

3300 B.C. -> Nothing new....for a while.

3180 B.C. -> Scrolls of ancient wisdom stumbled upon that contain a strange new "Warrior Code". We can now build archers.

3160 B.C. -> Phalanx trained in Ottawa. Ottawa is now constructing barracks.

3140 B.C. -> Hamilton produces Settlers; it is now building Barracks.

3120 B.C. -> More scrolls of ancient wisdom are discovered! We now have Iron Working.

The new game file is attached below:

Well, I've finished my turns now. The save and the log are here.
Stuff in italics = AI activity
Boldface = you figure it out

2840 BC (15)--Move Legion downriver. RB Temple in Hamilton.

COMMENTS
-Both of the other 2 Settlers are preparing to found cities on their respective sites.
-Techwise, I was at a crossroads as to whether we should go for Monarchy or Philosophy 1st. I decided to go w/ Mon and then see if we could make it to Phil before any other civ later.
-We're at war w/ France. My ideas for the cities during the next few turns would be:
Ottawa: Maybe build one more Legion, then start work on improvement/wonder.
Hamilton: After Temple finishes, build a Legion or 2.
Halifax: 1 Settler, 1 Legion
Of course, all this is up to the next guy up, and if he decides to do something different, that's his prerogative.
-As to why I didn't pop the first hut: I have no idea myself. Next guy can pop it if he wants to, but I'd advise against using that first Legion to do it; we'll probably want to get it up to the French war front ASAP.
-One of the Swamp-irrigators is on a 3-special site, possibly a 4-special one.

You're up, Old n' Slow; we hope you can make some headway against the stubborn French!

(EDIT: BTW, may I be the first one in this part of the forum to wish everyone a happy Memorial Day!)
