Successioin game: join in

2840 BC -- 3 Cities, Inadequate/Spotless. First in Lit with 8%! A look at the top five cities shows that the Babs, French, Aztecs and Mongols are with us in Dry World.

(Interesting note -- the space 114, 88 is a mountain on a river (I guess it flows it two directions vs flowing uphill, lol.)

Object -- need to scope out a viable site for an SSC; therefore need searchers. so we build a few warriors to go out and about.

2820 (1) -- Hamilton completes a temple, switches to warrior.

2800 (2) -- Switch the legion in process to a horse & buy him. also move the citizens around for more trade arrows -- now the next tech is due in 11 turns instead of 22.

2780 (3) -- found Vancouver in the valley of three specials -- but too many mountains to make this an SSC. Halifax pops out a warrior (switched settler build activity) who moves north.

2740 (5) -- Found Toronto in river N of Ottawa (also noted that the last two settlers were supported ones, so I guess the None Settler was planted earlier.) -- Now a tech every six turns.

2720 (6) -- Discover Monarchy & opt for Write over Currency, Feud, Mth, Myst, and Poly. Also <revolt>

2700 (7) -- Pop a hut for Currency

2680 (8) -- Pop another hut for an advanced tribe -- Edmonton -- actually a nice site but close by are a couple of SSC possibilities & Edmonton overlaps them.

2660 (9) -- See the French. See the French right next to our empty city. See the French smile. Hear the French as they ask for a cease--fire (uh --ok.) Let the French lull us into peace as well. OK, they are west of us, so we’ll need to consider border/ other options in the intermediate future -- I’d rather use early resources on development than an iffy war.

2620 (11) -- Horse pops a hut in the north for eight barb horses -- after some valiant conflict, four barb horses remain.

2600 (12) -- pop two huts on the South Pole -- one gives us Math and the other shows five barb horses -- one of whom deeply wounds our warrior (slowing him from one space per turn down to one space per turn (lol -- another plus for the “two warriors vs. one horse argument” -- wounded speeds) and the other four vanish next turn (a side benefit to popping in the poles -- barbs don’t stay on the ice.)

2580 (13) -- finally pop the hut on the hill = 50 coins.

2540 (15) -- saved game.

Notes -- there are a couple of leftover barbarian horses driving south towards Toraonto -- even as our phalanx is moving north to defend the city. There is also a nice city spot in the north (even though the site is tundra) three specials -- including a whale.

To be brief ...

2520 (1) Halifax builds settlers; Phalanx moves due north into swamps, defeats both Barb Horsies, becomes Veteran.
2500 (2) Writing discovered; start researching Literature. Wounded Legion discovers a road to no where near Edmonton -- must be French.
2480 (3) Wounded Legion fortifies. Polar hut yields Nomads
2460 (4) Population reaches 200,000.
2440 (5) Vancouver commissions first Diplomat. Hut yields Construction.
2420 (6) Edmonton builds Legion, heads west toward first Legion, which at full strength continues exploring further west. Canadian Warrior encounters French Warrior near Vancouver. French request for withdrawel yields location of Paris.
2400 (7) Hut yields 50g. Legion refortifies near Paris. French demand withdrawel of our forces. We say Nyet! Warrior successfully defends against attack from French Warrior, becomes veteran.
2380 (8) The city of Prince Rupert is established ... far to the south and west of Vancouver.
2360 (9) Literacy discovered; commence research on Trade.
2340 (10) Toronto, Halifax, and Ottawa all build Settlers. A Warrior exploring far, far to the east discovers signs of a new civilization.
2320 (11) Vancouver builds Settlers. Venturesome Diplomat discovers the French city of Orleans.
2300 (12) Encounter with the Persians; exchange Map Making for Mysticism, sign Peace Treaty; demand tribute, receive 100g.
2280 (13) Cities of Kamloops and Kelowna founded between Vancouver, Edmonton, and Toronto.
2260 (14) Hamilton builds settlers.
2240 (15) Edmonton builds Catapult. Hut yields Pachyderm. City of Banff founded toward French city of Orleans, defended by our veteran Phalanx.

We have a fairly solid defensive line facing the French, and which the French have not tested. We discover Trade on the next turn, so it might be nice to run a few Caravans to the French cities before we acquire them -- depending on the supply/demand opportunities of single continent. ...

Since we haven't seen jade for a while, I'll go ahead and take it and let her make up her turns whenever she feels like it.

BTW, have a happy D-Day.

2240 BC (0)--Overview. Looks like OnS and Andu did a good job (but then, given their reputation, how could they do otherwise?) 10 cities, good tax/sci/lux, good defensive position against France. IPRB Settler in Toronto, then shuffle workers to get it done in 2 turns. IPRB Settler in Toronto halfway.
2220 BC (1)--Trade discovered. Next: Philosophy. IPRB Settlers in Halifax.
2180 BC (2)--French pop up near Vancouver and Prince Rupert (We're probably gonna lose Vancouver). Toronto builds Settlers. IPRB Settlers in Ottawa again. Move Legion and Catapult into position near Paris. Dip pops hut near Paris and gets Elephants. Send in Settler as bait for French Warrior next to Vancouver. (When I hit Enter, things should get interesting.) Change production in Vancouver to Phalanx.
2160 BC (3)--French sack Vancouver, take Construction and 11 gold. We also lose Warrior and Diplomat supported there. Halifax and Ottawa build Settlers. Switch to Phalanx in Kamloops. Rehome Phalanx in Banff to be suppoorted from there. Assault on Paris; we lose Catapult but take the city. We refuse to speak to French emissary. IRB Caravan in Paris. Settler move onto mountain to once again distract the French Warriors who sacked Vancouver.
2140 BC (4)--French Horse attacks Settlers; Settlers win. Beads Caravan from Paris arrives in Orleans (demanded)--12 gold. Catapult IRBed in Banff.
2120 BC (5)--Elephant attacks and takes Orleans. French are Uncooperative; decide to talk. We accept cease-fire but not peace treaty.
2100 BC (6)--Babylonians begin work on Pyramids. Philosophy and The Wheel discovered. Next: The Republic. Canada has 300,000 citizens.
2080 BC (7)--Canada has 400,000 citizens (that was quick!) Moncton founded. Warrior pops hut, gets advanced tribe of St. Catharines.
2060 BC (8)--Babylonians abandon Pyramids. Burnaby founded on site of Vancouver. Phalanx IRBed, "just in case." Legion pops hut, gets barbarians. 2nd Legion helps out by killing Barb Horse.
2040 BC (9)--Legion holds out against almost all barbarians attacks, but finally falls. Barbs spotted near Moncton. Prince Rupert commissions Diplomat. Elephant finds final (known) French city.
2020 BC (10)--Babylonians begin work on Pyramids again. Barb Horse atytacks Paris and dies. Settler defeats 2 Barb Horses east of Moncton. Warrior pops hut; 50 gold. Send emissary to French; we refuse peace treaty and demand tribute; they declare war. We sack a nameless French city (??) and plunder 39 gold. French civilization destroyed.
2000 BC (11)--Barb Legion attacks Paris and loses.
1980 BC (12)--Carthaginians begin work on Colossus.
1960 BC (13)--Kewlona builds Settlers. Edmonton commissions Diplomat. Warrior pops hut, finds nomads.
1940 BC (14)--Hamilton builds Settlers. Canada has 500,000 citizens. Dip pops hut, gets The Republic. Warrior attacks Barb Legion and loses. Dip IRBed in Moncton. Catapult in Paris kills Barb Legion.
1920 BC (15)--Next tech: Seafaring. Moncton commissions Diplomat. Sudbury founded. Dip in Moncton bribes Barb Legion for 82 gold. Elephant runs into German Elephant near Orleans, decides to kill it after refusing to speak with emissary.

NOTES
-I founded a city (Moncton) on that 3-special site OnS pointed out.
-The French are dead, but the Germans don't seem to be too far away from where they were. Our NONE Elephant is the one that killed the German one, BTW.
-When we got Republic, I decided not to revolt for 2 reasons:
1. Too many military units outside
2. Wanted to leave that option open to the next guy
-I believe that the north is pretty much open to expansion, at least around our area. It wouldn't hurt to send a couple more Settlers up there and found 2 or 3 new cities.
-Still need to find a good spot for SSC, or could try playing without one. The Carthies are already working on a Colossus, so if we want an SSC, we'd better hurry.

Do some thinking and want to check out a couple of areas before committing to an SSC. Status-wise we seem to be in great shape. Top five cities show the Carts and Aztecs are in the game.

1900BC (1) -- (Az start the Pyramids) Discover Sea, opt for Eng over Astro, Bank, BB, Poly or Uni (many good choices, some more urgent than others.) See a Cart warrior N/NE of St. Cath. Pop = 600K
1880 (2) -- (Pers start Col.)

1840 (4) -- Hut = 50g; Hut = Nomads (S. pole) and Hut = 8 barb horses (popped by the Eastern NONE Settler -- 6 horses later he’s history.) See a German Pha to the SW. Pop = 700K

1820 (5) -- Hut = Banking (IRB towards camels)

1800 (6) -- Hut popped by the Eastern Warrior = 5 horses & Legions (one of whom shows the warrior the error of his ways -- and yet another point in the warrior vs. horse searcher argument -- cheaper deaths.) No more searchers in the far east, though…

1780 (7) -- Dip pops a Hut in the West for a NONE Legion (hmmm wonder who’s in that area?)

1760 (8) -- Pop = 800K

1720 (10) -- Hut = Nomads in the west.

1700 (11) -- (Babs abandon Pyr.) Found Montreal north of Mon -- might end up being a reasonable central location as we push north. (Montreal was chosen for the SSC due to a lack of Mountains and hills in the radius as well as four (so-so) specials.) Also pop a hut a little bit east & spring 7 barb horses (5 after a stupid buy & kill activity.)

1640 (14) -- Montreal constructs the Colossus. (Carts change to LH; Pers change to Pyr.) Hut = nomads in the west. Find Berlin. Hut yields a (St. Cath) Elephant.

1620 (15) -- Montreal completes Hanging Gardens. Hut = 50g. Smack away the two defenders of Berlin, but don’t have enough movement to enter the city. Buy a barb horse (Moncton) & send him a-searching.

Notes -- Berlin is at size 2 -- one Ele is lightly wounded and the other is worse. There is a German Archer & Settler in the area, so our forces are at risk. If the Germans choose to rush a defender & still stay at size two, slaying the defender will bring the city down to size one and the entry might raze the city. While the ceasing of hostilities might be worth it, some patience may net us a free city.

There are a couple of food camels afoot for the next wonder -- I recommend MPE.

Sorry I've been gone a while. I've been busy with diplomas and piano. I will be for the next few weeks. I encourage you guys to keep playing without me. I'll be back, wot! :)

I tried defraging the computer yesterday and it didn't work. Something about "driver's contents changed; restarting." As far as I can tell, nothing else is wrong with the computer, and golem didn't report any trouble with the other save, so if anyone will take it, I'll step in and play.

OK by me.

I'm hosting family this week, so computer games will probably not happen (but board games might!) :D

The king was sitting on his throne, and was laughing very hard. He was laughing so hard that he accidentaly rubbed his hand on the armrest of his luxurious chair with too much force. He then let out a shout as he had a searing pain in his hand. He looked at it and found a huge sliver in it. He was able to pull it out without much dificulty, though a servant had rushed into the room upon hearing the king's yell and asked him what the mater was. The king told him it was just another sliver, though he commented that he liked it better when he was sitting on a rock.
He picked up the paper on the floor; he had dropped it because he was laughing too hard. He wiped the tears of laughter that had come back from the memory of what was written on it, and the servant asked what he was reading. The king read some of the writing on it:
"The Government is far too courpt and puts itself before its peoples. Our king is inept and we shouldn't have to stand for it. We should be able to govern our own selvs, and not need to listen to a king come to power by birth. We have the numbers to put an end to the government, and most of the army is off on conquest and far from home. We have the power and the right to build ourselfs a REPUBLIC!"
The attendie clasped his hands over his mouth in horor. The king, still olmost overcome with mirth, told the servant that if he could find the writer of this article and bring him unharmed to the palace, enlisting anyone he may need for the task, that he would give him the government of a large city.
The servant said that the king must realy want to make an example of the man that wrote the rebellion stirring messages.
The king said: "An example?" to which the soon to be governor replied:"This is a man commiting high treason, surely you want ot make an example of him to the peole of this nation."
"Certainly not!" replied the king.
"No? But my king, there are a lot of truths written on that paper, and anyone who reads it may be stirred to rebellion."
"Who will read it? Almost no one that is not in the upper class is able to read, and the upper class will never revolt. I will make him a powerfull minister."

The man was found, and that was how Garfield came to power. He was indeed made a powerfull man, but he was not corrupted by the power. He used his power to instill the republic. (He also increased the government food budget to fufill his apitite.)
