I was thinking of playing 1700AD UMERICA FUXX YEAH sometime.

I usually play heir-difficulty + editor cheaty game before regent-difficulty UHV victory run, to learn the situations

    So...

    20210422181531_1.jpg

I really have no idea where to build my cities on those desert tiles.
Especially, 2tiles: silver 3E to Seatle, and copper between Los Angelos and Denver

Maybe Salt Lake City on the stone, and El Paso 2N2E to Hermosillo (Spanish Colony 1S to the gold)?

    * I focused more on 'Settler value' over city performance, but there was no particularly high spots on those deserts. AND, I have no special knowledge about US history or geography.
Any recommendation considering either city performance or historical name-value will be of great help to me.

I've played a LOT of America. When I get access to my computer today, I'll draw up a map for you of what I use.

    Definitely El Paso.
If you build a church in El Paso, you'll get a yellow heavy swordwoman with a katana.

Denver on the oil is cruicial - best production city in the game imo. Grand Falls you can skip or just settle between the cow and crop - also another good city that i think doesnt flip to canada on spawn - or you just wait their spawn and settle it.

Looking at that map, Denver is a great choice, it will be your most productive city or at least within your Top Three. It's also great that you placed Los Angeles there, sometimes I settle San Francisco and/or San Diego but I suspect that is a mistake.

As for that gap, either south of the lake or on the brown hill two tiles south, on the river across the copper. Build culture if you want to grab both the copper and the stone, but it won't grow much so it's not worth settling.

Okay, here's my city setup and strategy. 1700AD, Emperor/Marathon. Note that I play on a slightly modified map that adds the Potomac River to Washington among other added rivers around the map, but this doesn't affect the strategy at all.

    Specifics:

My strategy is to restart until England DOWs on city flip for additional units. Use your starting stack to capture New Orleans ASAP and then circle north to capture Canada. Raze Toronto, it takes resources easily worked by core cities you can found later. Adopt early Despotism and focus heavily on whipping workers (at least 2/per city, even three) and Levees. I settle Chicago, Rapid City, Santa Fe and Duluth with my starting settlers. Duluth should focus on hooking up the copper ASAP for when you switch out of Despotism to Democracy to build the Statue of Liberty. After capturing Canada, build a small navy and send your stack to invade the English mainland ASAP. They will become a monster technologically and have nice wonders, so capture their cities and stop the problem before it starts. You could also do the same to the Dutch if able.

I disagree with settling Denver, it kills the oil and you can just build Rapid City to grab the stuff to the north that Santa Fe doesn't reach. Denver was better when settling on the oil gave you the yield. Settle Flint and Cleveland after conquering Canada, they can grow large and really help with your core population. Cleveland can eat the Canadian corn.

Using this strategy I was able to finish the UHV in 1925, and finish the Pax Americana goal in 1897 (thought admittedly this was a bit lucky and exceptional from my usual runs. Ally Russia ASAP, they are great for this goal, funnily enough.)

Thank you! I'll try your strategy in my regular UHV run.

Oh also, you can easily cheese Canada out of settling the Prairies (basically everything in Canada northwest of Duluth/Lake Superior) by placing settlers in the spots you want to build before Canadians spawn in 1867. Do NOT settle them, just park them there. When Canada spawns, on the turn they flip your Canadian cities, you can settle all your Prairie cities, preventing Canada from flipping them and blocking them from settling stupid city sites.

The nice thing about America is that your modifiers are the best in the game, period, which means economic issues that would ruin another civ for expanding this much just don't happen to you.

Mixing this setup with Zaddy's one above, you can squeeze in a 7th Core city with "Cleveland" (Rochester by default) 1 NW 1W of New York City, which can work the Toronto Corn and the 3F lake 2NW of NYC. Then with St. Louis poaching tiles from Charleston and New Orleans, and eventually, a Boston with a full BFC after razing Motnreal, you have an absurdly good core population.

Sioux Falls / Albuquerque is also an interesting setup that I haven't tried. Especially with Sioux Falls, I use a hilariously inefficient 3 city setup -- city 1 E of the Denver Oil, Helena 2 W of the Sheep, and Grand Rapids 1 E of the Sheep. I find it gets a good network of defensible cities against the Mounted Braves early, and later, lets you work the southern Canadian Prairie tiles using historical cities. I find that North America is so wealthy that you can split tiles up among more cities and they still churn out things later on whereas a supercity would just overflow production constantly.

This also lets me build Edmonton with a full BFC, which is categorically correct and not just bias (it does make a good National Park city though).

Oh, ha, sorry, forgot I renamed Rochester to Cleveland for sentimental reasons.

I usually first focus on getting as much cities wide on the core, so that is 5-6. After that I settle on the edges of my historical areas. So I'd build Grand Rapids 1 spot higher to border canada more and claim more land there. Seattle and los Angeles seem solid. chicago is nicely at the edge of the Core, The French New Orleans, is usually present as is the spanish city in florida. Lately I been using WB to make cities build by AI more sane placed. Sometimes they literally build 2-3 cities in view of 1 single city.

You want to deny Canada building cities close to your borders ;) Steal their wood, So be sure to lumber their woodlands you can't work as the culture spread.

I still really like the idea of America's city-style and naming to be dependent upon spawn on the dominant power on the Eastern seaboard, but I don't know how codeable that is.
I guess it's a lot of work and I think Leoreth leans more towards favouring historical outcomes than potential alternate history anyway.

Still, it doesn't *really* make sense for an Anglo-America to found dozens of cities with names like Los Angeles and El Paso, although I guess America is full of cities like 'Cicero' and 'Carthage' too.

I wonder where the origin of the dynamic name "Anti-Reelectionist Mexico" comes from.

Wow, look at that AI Russia! Were you playing as them before America spawned? I remember them collapsing constantly last time I played this mod.
