[Suggestion] Late game feature: Hammer to yield occupation for cities/permament action for cities to avoid idling

It's a small suggestion I got while playing long-term games in Co a while ago and expanding over time.
So my idea is to have city actions (constructions) converting hammer yield into some other thing (gold/commodity/culture - idea is up to mod maker) similar to BtS which would allow player to set cities into permament motion once he rans out of available/useful construction (in case of statue of governor building, it's not permament solution, as it eventually gets built within up to 1000 turns - possibly less with fully developed carpenter building chain with specialist carpenters, good wood supply and revolutionary rate). It would less of another money generating scheme and more about setting city permamently to do something either useful, or minor thing, until it gets replaced by player decision to set up another "construction". Basically equiqvalent of idleness action.
I often like to play long term games (long term being far more than 1000 turns for me, although much less at scope than in some BtS mods like C2C) on gigantic maps and just roleplay development of colonial nation rather than rush to victory - thus I would like to be able to set up cities to permament idleness option rather than have to make them doing useless actions like training excess units in order to keep them busy.

In upcoming WTP 4.0 you can produce "Construction Supplies" and deliver them by Ships to other Cities.
There you can boost the City Production of e.g. Buildings or Ships by simply using them.

Also you could always simply generate Founding Father Points.
So that would also keep your cities busy.

Anything else like directly producing Gold, Culture, Liberty Bells, ... does not feel immersive to me.
Also I would suggest to wait for WTP 4.0 before discussing change requests since so much has changed in the last 2 years since 3.0.1.

With Founding Father points there's this trouble that you eventually run out of Founding Fathers. I mostly ask about something to keep city in busy state permament - even such basic option as "idle" designation could work.
And of course I await release of next version. But since I am not beta tester, I really would like to see if some solution can be introduced in either 4.0 or 5.0 version, whenever it happens.

You really have not seen the list of FF in "New Hope", right? :)
We have almost doubled the amount of FFs in the last 2 years.

Also you can continue producing FF points even if there are no more FFs to gather.
So basically that would then also be kind of an idle status.

I really would like to see if some solution can be introduce ...
As I said, there is already the "Construction Supplies" so your mature cities can continously support the new ones.
It is actually a pretty fun mechanic that I would use quite a lot.

Also there are far more buildings now than before.
So it will also take a lot longer till a City has actually produced all useful buildings.

If there is a motivated modder to work on it, why not.
But for me the effort to implement "idle production" is really not worth it, since I see no gameplay in it for me personally.

My todo list is so full of stuff I really want to implement that investing effort into stuff I do not want is highly unlikely.
But maybe one of the other modders will be interested to mod something like "Idle Production" for cities. :dunno:

By the way:
You can also simply construct Ships and sell them in Europe.
It is actually a quite profitable strategy in late game.

Just put 20 of them in a queue and whenever one of them is produced send it to Europe.
(Of course this only works for the harbour cities, but the inland can provide production supplies for it.)

----

So why idle?

If such a "time waster feature" was necessary I would rather say we have a design issue somewhere.
You can always do something useful as well. If not we have to implement usefulf features to keep a city production busy.

So instead of creating an ugly workaround I would design and implement a feature with meaningful choices.
(Because "time wasters" for me really is a sign of poor feature or game design.)

Thank you for your explaination and patience.
Also it's good you can now produce FF points when FFs are all taken. It would solve my issue certainly.
