Oh, I just had another idea I'd like to suggest: Workers may cheaply be upgraded to the lowest-HP foot unit of the previous era. The effect would be called "Mobilization", or "To Arms!" or the like.
The conversion would be irreversible, and the converted workers would get a "Mercenary" promotion, meaning that they deduct money from the treasury and cannot be further upgraded.

    Ancient era: No upgrade possible.
Classical era: Worker may be upgraded to Militia.
Medieval era: Worker may be upgraded to Skirmisher.
Renaissance era: Worker may be upgraded to Longbowmen.
Industrial era: Worker may be upgraded to Arquebusier
Global era: Worker may be upgraded to Musketeer, Laborer into Rifleman
Info era: Laborer may be upgraded to Infantry.

This could be useful in sieges (mostly for the AI though), or to get cannonfodder units in times of worker surplus (mostly for the player).

Well if a worker can be upgraded once to any military unit, it can be upgraded again (as all military units) to the latest one (with some gold). Would this not ruin your idea of cannon fodder?

Has there been a suggestion for a unit like the Oghuz/barbarian type which has a hidden nationality but available to all the civs as a raiding type of unit? Ofcourse with a certain build limitation and very vanilla stats? Something like 1-2 unit build limit (depending on era and tech to unlock more). I think it might have some uses for some civs , and yeah spies definetely can do the pillage/sabotage job on land the same way , but we don't really have a land unit like the Privateer to sweep units.

Let the wonder effects of vassals apply to your own civilisation, if applicable. E.g. if a vassal builds a wonder that grants +X tile yield to one city, that is hard to translate to your own civilisation. But if a vassal builds a wonder that grans +X commerce yield to state religion buildings, that can apply to you as well.

When not mousing over a civic, civics that currently give stability bonuses/penalties for non-civic synergy reasons (religion choice, current era, etc) should be highlighted in green/red. I've been trying to think of a way to graphically represent these in the Civic Screen for months, I can't believe I didn't think of something so straightforward.

Unrelated to anything, but is Nathaniel Bowditch currently listed as a Great Person for the American civ? I'd suggest making him a Great Merchant (since he wrote the New American Practical Navigator and is mostly associated with transatlantic trade) but you could also make him a Great Scientist due to his work on mathematics.

I had a similar idea once. But I didn't know how to put this code in a nice function for both stability.py and civicscreen.py to use. But I have some ideas how this could be done now. There is still a minor problem. Even with color coding, it is not clear what is causing the stability bonus/penalty.

However I don't like your straightforward representation of always showing it except when you are hovering with you mouse over a civic. I think it is much cleaner to show only the basics (like now) and only show the additional information when you ask for it. Furthermore it would overwrite the yellow text indicating which civics are currently active. A toggle button switching the highlights on or off would be a solution.

    EDIT:
We can also change the help text to show what is causing the bonus/penalty (tech, era, religion) when one has enabled the highlights and hoover over a civic.

I believe I have mentioned this before but there is an option to release entire civs if you own enough of their cities

any possibility to release as vassal or at least with a good boost in diplomacy for releasing them?

I know it’s a mechanic that barely gets used though

Edit: Also i know I’ve seen this mentioned here before but can the spy mechanics be looked at again? Played another Russia game on a harder difficulty and never got a great spy despite using spies for 80% of the game. Tried “training” spies to get points by taking risky mission and still barely got any points

Great Spy points have always been either overworking - giving too much, or not working at all (as in current 1.16 vers) , it's been an issue for a long time. I think during 1.15 it was working decently according to me , since i mostly used spies with russia as in your case , and i could get like 2-3 great spies from missions, but it was deemed too op and abusable as i remember correctly (was a long time ago). Anyways i totally agree that it should be looked in some way for 1.17.

Perhaps the best approach is just to revert it back to the 1.15 ways of working, but move up the requiremenent points for a great spy - most civs need like 25-30 to get their first, so just boost it to 50-55, as in double the amount?

What do you think of listing great wonders by religion?
I enjoy this mod but when planning my play in the game, I spend a lot of time searching for available wonders for my civilization.
For example, when I play Indian civilization, it would help me plan my tech tree quickly if I know that Ethics allows Shwedagon Paya with Buddism state religion and Steel allows Iron Pillar with Hinduism. However, present civilopedia does not sort wonders by religion, and those who try a civilization in this mod for the first time would have to struggle planning their moves.
It would be of great help if an easy reference that sorts or lists wonders by religion is added for 1.17 version.

Also its hard to distinguish between wonder requiring the city to have a certain religion compared to having a certain state religion.

I have a ticket for this feature, it hasn't been very high priority but I should be able to cram it in before the next release.

I suggest to change the Mughal civilization name to Indo-Turks in both 3000 B.C. and 600 A.C. scenarios. This is based on the fact that the game shows not only the Mughal civilization but the Delhi Sultanate. Both civilizations are turkic states that ruled a large part of India for a considerable amount of time and made significant changes in the local culture that are seen even today. So, I believe that this name represent well these civilizations instead of only one.

Two years ago there was a discussion of unique epics and a thread was made for it. Each Civ was to get a Heroic and National epic, must debate ensued about the content and the game-play effects. Recently on a google doc, most epics were found, I am pasting the doc link here for commentary. I want to see what everyone thinks about the epics proposed.

    https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Ww_NOV27og8fUpziGSvTxKFN6QRcg7lZ0pXo77JVn2c/edit?usp=sharing

There was before a lively debate on effects the heroic/national epics would have but no agreement was completely reached. @Leoreth said that effects would be same for all civs.

I propose, in a non binding way, something like the following. I think in this case something that is simple, but can expand (ever so slightly) by era in the game is preferable, from what I understand of all of the discussion, wide reaching effects was not the goal here.

National Epics are national, so they nation wide they create a plus 1 culture bonus, per city, this bonus could double every era, so that older civs that are technologically behind anyway get a cultural boost (Ie: China remembers its ancient stories)

For National Epic, how about just 3xp for every unit recruited in the heroic epic city, to show the values the epic inspired on the military.

Also note that there are three remaining blank spots, (two for modern Iran, one for Aztecs). Anyone is welcoming to make a proposal for these final three.

Many people contributed to the list, I didn't make the credits list yet.

There should be more city names for Aztecs in Mexico. Again, it's not uncommon for them to settle "Teotihuacan" in southwest Mexico or Texas. Also, Chichen Itzá's name never evolves to either Mérida or Cancún, and neither does Yax Mutal/Tikal evolve to Belize, Flores, Petén or Guatemala.

I also noticed there are a lot of tiles in Polynesia and Africa that don't have any city names for England, France, Germany and America despite being within their historical areas. With England it's mostly Sudan, eastern and southern Africa, for example.

Also, why isn't western Africa in France's historical territory if they held the largest African colony ever there?

Late game satellites: Max # of satellites that can join a city is 1/5 of total specialists slots (according to civilopedia).

Can we please have an indicator in the city screen displaying how many satellite slots are available.

    I'm thinking a small [# satellites joined] / [# satellite slots] indicator.

Suggestion: Have the Congo unique weaver-building, the "Mbwadi", offer a priest specialist slot (instead of the merchant?). I just ended an unfortunate game where Catholicism didn't spread to any of my cities until 1645, one turn before the UHV 1 deadline. Being able to inspire a Great Prophet would at least insure that I do not need to rely on luck for my first UHV. It would also give the player another chance to use the "Great Mission" ability from a Great Prophet; I think the only other time I used that ability was with the Ethiopians.

Maybe Greece should have a different default name when they're not a city states or empire and not the "reborn" period? It's currently the Kingdom of Greece, which is the name of a 19th century kingdom. "Basileíā of Greece" perhaps?
