Lets put some suggestions for diplomacy here. I will start:

"You gave us help" should stack.
"You refused to help us during war" should result in a corresponding +1 on the party that you refused to declare war on. The AI is requesting participation in war willynilly.
Ditto refusal to break trade agreements.

Absolutely! It annoys me beyond anything that I can "donate" to them 100 times in a row and get NOTHING out of it after the first 1 or 2 times.
Sure, it prevents "cheating via spamming", but it's literally NOT how Real Life Diplomacy works, duuudes.

In terms of "you gave us help", that comes from when they ask you for something, quite often a technology, which can be quite painful to handover. So unlike just giving them a gift, they control the number of times that they ask, and it is limited by what you can actually offer anyway. Can someone point me in the direction of where these scores are handled in the game files?

Ah, I misunderstood. My point still stays. If I keep feeding them techs, they SHOULD become gradually more friendly due to it (I often reach +4 limit with much less what I can give in total).

I actually totally agree with this sentiment. It's also not very classic to II and III where you COULD sway diplomacy quite a bit with regular or even infrequent tributes. I'll consider that in the future.

Another issue: China asked me to join their war against Mongolia. I agreed. But now I get a penalty to relations of -1 with China because "the war is going badly for us". That's not my fault - I don't even have a direct border with any conflict area and can't do much to help. I suspect this is an error anyway.

What controls whether the AI will engage in trade? I have a number of civs that are "pleased" with me but will hardly trade with me at all. Also, could it be possible to have a war to open trade?

AI currently is crap, period. For all that the mod is great conceptually, it's also just as buggy practically.
