I hadn't seen this message in ciV until just a few minutes ago, and I had thought the circumnavigation bonus from cIV wasn't in the game... so now I wonder:

    1 - Is there a 1st-to-circle-the-globe bonus in ciV?
    2 - Was it there pre-patch/pre-hotfix?
3- Am I just an idiot who missed the whole concept until now?

    The XML value = 0
    Does this make sense?

    3. No because it didn't exist. You don't get a bonus, just a little achiever message

Magellan's Journey giving +1 naval move was a great challenge/bonus in Civ IV. Now the bonus is given to Elizabeth and the challenge can't exist any more cause it would always be won by... Elizabeth. But I miss it.

It could also be a city-state quest.

    sheesh... not even a +1:c5happy:

oh well... makes it easy for a modder to add a bonus if they want I guess...

I enjoyed the challenge as well.
Even if Elizabeth would almost always win the circumnavigation quest, it should have stayed. What about the games where England/Elizabeth are not in?

I actually wish there were more in-game challenges that give a small bonus.
First to find colonize a "new" world (in the Terra Maps"), first to discover the antarctic, etc.. 1st to 5 cities. 1st to 100 science output, etc..

I don't agree that Elizabeth would always win. If you beat her to caravels, you have a good shot of beating her to circumnavigating the globe.

Too. Also, first to reveal the whole map, or meet all civs... could be called "Marco Polo" (didn't that exist in some version or mod?). Could also add variety to city-states quests.

True, maybe even more at Epic or Marathon speed. But since the beginning it's the only reason I could find to why they removed a nice feature that was in the game since Civ II (or I?).

Side note: as someone said, "bring back the risky-trireme-ocean-travel"! Loved it.

Yep. +2 naval movement only shaves, maybe 6 or 7 turns off of circumnavigation? Substantial, yes, but if you just buy a caravel instead of building one, that would save more turns.

True, my bad. But then why did they remove the challenge?

Which XML file has the bonus so we can change it?
