Sullla's AI Survivor Season Eight - Championship Thread

With Aggressive AI turned on I think there's a non-zero chance he doesn't go culture even if he has a couple holy cities, but I can't imagine it's very likely.

I've finished the Alternate History playthroughs for this map! It will take a couple of days at least to get this typed up, submitted, and posted on the website, but in the meantime here's the teaser results to whet your appetite. This ended up being a surprisingly lopsided affair, and I think is a rare case where writing it up will be possibly more interesting than playing the actual games.

Well, that's a bit of a surprise indeed: I figured Mansa and Elisabeth to be the favourites here, with a slight edge for Lizzy, and Gandhi getting a slice too. So something like 8 wins Lizzy, 7 wins Mansa, 3-4 wins Gandhi.

Wasn't the case, apparently...

Going by the number of kills and survival rate, I would say this is:
  1. Mansa
  2. Gandhi
  3. Elizabeth
  4. Augustus
  5. Churchill
  6. Qin Shi Huang

Here I think that Mansa and Liz will be about Equal, so that would make Gandhi first, probably due to him winning by Culture by trun 280 in half the games.
So Gandhi - Mansa - Liz - Augustus - Churchill - Qin

I think a good CS map would have all AI capitals relatively close together (not toe on toe but reachable :)),
with a backline for each of them to fill.

This way econ AIs could build up but not in safety, while aggressive ones have a chance by capturing important cities without walking long distances.
We will rarely see warmongers in the CS anyways..on a big econ map they might as well rise the white flag on turn 0.
And average AIs as well tbh, can they ever beat Mansa, HC and so on here?

I have run this map 17 times with different leader combinations so far. I have seen 1 culture victory only vs 13 space.
Average end date is also 10 turns faster than old championship map. I didn't check in details but I see less eliminations on this map.

I haven't got this exact 6 leaders on final and so never run this exact setup.
I predict
1.Mansa Musa
2.Elizabeth
3.Gandhi
4.Augustus Ceasar
5.Churchill
6.Qin Shi Huang

If I remember previous comments correctly, that's basically what the mapmaker had done, but Sullla asked him to pull the capitals back?

Anyway, my vote would go to a standard random map.
Play once.
Rotate the leaders.
Play again.
And so on until a leader wins twice: that's the Champion.

But I suspect Sullla wouldn't be too keen at potentially having to stream up to seven Championship games!

I would like to believe that Mansa was the 2nd most likely to die by being a religious pariah vs. Gandhi's dominating religion, but I'm not buying Gandhi with 12 kills :)

So @Thrasybulos' guess feels more likely, Gandhi 2nd in a lot of games as Mansa's sidekick, space more likely than culture due to generous land as @Fippy said.

Convincing argument, looking at the kills closely there are 34 total kills. 17 of those are against the weakest leader, and that is most likely Qin, of which 14 are FTD. I do not see Gandhi doing any cross-map stuff to kill someone early. And 12 out of 20 non Qin-FTD kills seems very unlikely.

Now that would mean that probably Mansa, maybe Liz is first. I would like to know where the huge difference between the two comes from. Did one win several close space-races? Did one get into significantly more wars without making progress? That does not feel very likely, but yes, it seems more likely than Gandhi with 12 kills in this setup.

Don't underestimate Gandhi..he will throw nukes on everybody ;)
He seriously could have won by diplomacy, but those nukes...I know the meme is just a meme about his aggressiveness and the stack overflow thing, but sometimes, sometimes, a thread of the true self exists within the false self.
