Sullla's AI Survivor Season Eight - Championship Thread

With those numbers I estimate, that this map has room for maybe 30-50% more cities. (Or 2, maybe even 3 civs.)
So you're telling me Liz is finally going to build 6 cities :crazyeye::lol:

I went for Elizabeth space victory. Augustus second and Gandhi ftd for some fun. Lets see. I believe larger maps with higher commerce favors space over culture. Although I am not sure if this map is enough larger than normal pangeas to favor that.
Also I want to note, border spark tension more on round maps, if someone goes culture. Mansa Musa and Elizabeth plots at pleased.
Qin is guaranteed to die so maybe Augustus is more likely to collect the spoils compared to Mansa Musa for a second place. Although beware if he captures everything he may suddenly win diplo/space himself :D
still 10 more days to wait

Question about the map that may have been covered elsewhere: What accounts for the discrepancies in the immediate starts despite the mirroring? For instance, the starts vary in backlines (number of tiles behind the capital) at 19/25/35, and the two largest values (Elizabeth/Augustus) are also 5 tiles from the corn, whereas the others are 4.

I initially thought due to the isolation of the starts on this map compared to the previous one, they would provide a blank slate to show AI settling preferences. With the variability in tiles, however, it seems more like modeling Starts A, B, and C, where we are still reading different starts to an extent. The difference between furs and calendar resources is also evident. But there are probably factors I am slow to compute in my own assessment, and hopefully any bias would have shown up in initial testing.

In general, it seems the AI will send their first settler to either the backlines with delayed resources or toward the center with more food. Personally, I am in favor of the land food resources over fishing boats for the early game. This would favor Qin Shihuang as the sole AI to start with Agriculture. Combined with the lack of Hunting from the other civilizations, this puts him closest to Animal Husbandry, which will also be a key tech for the starts. What do the veteran map readers think of early settles?

The inexatitude in my previous post has been bothering me, so here is a correct tile-count: 1062 land tiles, including 5 peaks with 62 lakes for the championship map and 814 land tiles, including 14 peaks with 11 lakes for the P3 map.

Looking closely I also noticed that there are 3 ocean tiles where there should be coast: 3 tiles NW of Beijing, 13W, 5S of Beijing, and 9W, 4N of York.
The first two are inconsequential, as coast tiles wrap around them, but the last one interrupts the coast between Churchill and Gandhi, also interrupting pre-astronomy trade routes.

Thanks for spotting that! I went ahead and DM'd this to Sullla on Discord, so it should be fixed for the game.

Update: it's been fixed!

Championship Game Announcement is now up on the CFC Home Page!!

lol...Qin now at 74% FTD

The more interesting question to me regards Qin's chances of winning... Currently that comes in at 2.5% with 3 votes.

The straightforward picks from the Alternate Histories would be Mansa Musa 1st, Augustus 2nd, Culture, early! Elizabeth and Qin Shihuang actually have average win averages, but the other leaders are all below average. Qin has a good record of placing second, with the rest fairly mediocre.

The numbers seem a bit of an illusion here when considering Gandhi has scraped together those wins from hostile fields. With less peace weight tension, it's not clear to me that we should count him out, for instance. I'm also curious about the looming results of Playoff Game 3's Alternate Histories, where we will get a glimpse of Qin's performance. It seems to me he could be difficult to eliminate with a good start, Protective, and the bottlenecks of the map. Combined with potential incompetence from the rest, there could very well be another AI to go out first, or no eliminations at all due to a fast victory.

Qin having more votes to win than Churchill is amusing, but I think Qin having exactly zero votes to come in second is even funnier.

If I have my history right, five out of seven previous championships have been won by the leader with the fewest picks entering the game. Does that mean we're in for a Churchill troll win?

The Evil me wishes Churchill to win, for yet another reason: if Sullla keeps with his tradition of the previous years, he'll then play a game with the season winner as his leader.
All of them are leaders he'd enjoy playing, with all sorts of possible variants fitting his playing style.

Except for Churchill.

If he has to play Churchill, expect some serious Sullla raging! :satan:

1st - Augie
2nd - Liz
FTD - Qin
Diplo, Turn 310, 6 Wars

This is a very big map and the center is extremely rich. Whoever gets an above-average chunk out of the center will have a good position. Thus I vote for Augustus to win, due to him being the only Imperialistic leader. With the number of citites that will be needed the financial leaders are also good contenders, due to having better economy. I think they will not do as good as the Romans because Augustus is fairly capable of managing his economy, and both Mansa and Liz have a tendency to start slowly.

If Augustus is doing well Qin will not have a chance against him and be FTD in a mostly peacful game. It is also very much possible, that someone goes plotting way before the map has filled up and gets left behind (Qin?), also torpedoing whoever they attack due to delayed expansion.

Seeing that this group I think it is likely that at least two religious blocks form. (Mansa and Gandhi for the early religions) Due to peaceweight I expect quite a few friendly relations. Since I expect at least Mansa and Gandhi to go Culture I think an early UN is on the cards, with the big guy (Augustus) getting elected victor.

Liz will be second, having built at least not 6 but 12 cities.

Ha..I almost want to take Qin to be contrarian but nope....straight up lame picks below:

1st: Mansa
2nd: Church
FTD: Qin
Culture
8 wars
T302

1st Qin looks good (i think he has more chances than Church actually who doesn't declare at pleased).
Domination should be crazy enuf..very few of those will happen in alternate histories imo.
Qin winning would be an awesome and hilarious ending to this season of bunnies...lol. I so wanted to pick him, but I think the odds are heavily against him. Who knows though, anything can happen.

And don't let thE Cow beat you. Moo! ;)
