All right boys and girls, who do YOU pick to win the biggest gambling event of the year? (I got 20 bucks on the pats beating the spread)

Aw, you should have included a category for "don't care".

I've always liket Bowling but, ive never heard of these teams before:cry: .

I actually don't care about Football!

GO PATS!!!

They have had an amazing season. I think they will have a chance if they start Bledsoe; it would be incredible if he won the Super Bowl for them this year after getting injured and losing his job to for Brady most of the season. Bledsoe has the experience (he was in the '97 Superbowl) and the arm. Bye the way I called the Pats going to the Superbowl in an old OT Thread "Sports Predictions" I think.

:D :D :D

Well, if the St. Louis mob (one of the most powerful still left) decides they wanna cash in on all those bets made on the Rams, probably since pre-season, that they would win the Superbowl, we may see a Pats victory.

[cynic mode OFF--and no, I'm not entirely sure how pervasive the mob is in influencing football play]

Boy, I really wanted to see a Pittsburgh-Rams matchup. In spite of Pittsburgh's loss, those two teams still ARE the best in their respective conferences, IMHO--both are balanced well with offense and defense (Rams more offense, Steelers more defense, but neither are slouches in the other respective areas). Consider the Patriot's victory over Pittsburgh: two of those touchdowns were made by special teams. That isn't something you can count on as much as offensive or even defensive touchdowns. I think the Rams are going to slaughter the Patriots, but that's by weighing the teams' general strengths and weaknesses. Of course, in football anything CAN happen.... Steelers and Rams would have been a knock-down, drag-out FIGHT.

Besides, I used to live in Pittsburgh so I still have some fondness for the Steelers....

Rams will win.

On the other hand, I think Brady should definetly be the one to start. He's the one who got them there.

the rams are going to kcik some butt. the game i really wanted to see was steelers rams. THAT would have been cool.

what's everybody doing for the game? getting drunk, right?

As far as the Patriots' success this season, there are basically 2 schools of thought:

1) Since Bledsoe went down, and Brady took over, the Pats started winning. Brady carried the Pats to the playoffs, and therefore should start.

2) (this is the one I agree with)
Since Bledsoe went down, the Pats TEAM played better. They actually developed a running game, thanks to Antowain Smith, for the first time since Curtis Martin left for NY. Had Bledsoe been the QB the entire season, the Pats would be in the same position as they are today.

Not only this, but did Brady really take them here? Bledsoe has been the Pats QB for the past 7 or so years. He is currently in the prime of his career. He gets seriously injured for the first time in his career, and Brady walks in and takes over for him.

I'll take the guy who can flick his wrist and throw the ball 70 yards over the guy who seems like he can't complete over 20 yards.

There are arguments for both sides, but I guess the fact that I live in Massachusetts and have been a Bledsoe fan for years makes me favor him over the new guy. However, it seems like most Pats fans around here actually prefer Brady now.

I watched the AFC Championship, and I agree that Bledsoe did well and is the better choice. Besides, he got them to the Super Bowl a few years back, in '97, I believe.

By the way, I am cheering for the Patriots for this game. I resent the Rams, because the beat my favorite team (*sniff* maybe next year, Packers.......)

Cd Light - you resent Rams for beating Packers?

heh, I resent Packers for beating Patriots in '97 Superbowl!

But the best outcome would be if Pats won, that way we ALL will have a recent Superbowl victory.

Rams may win, but if they do it will be closer than most people think.

GO RAMS!!!

There's a thread on page 20 I think :)!

Anyway, I am convinced that it will not be a blowout...

And I am scared of the Patsies!!!

They have lady luck on their side, just like the Giants did when they beat Buffalo...

Hmmm... Back-up QB (Hostetler) beats offensive juggernaut (Bills) on special teams play (Dave Meggett and Co.)

Yep, knees are definitely knockin' now.:) But the Rams are the most dominant offensive team of our TIME. And their defensive unit is very, very, good.

We'll see how it stacks up on Sunday!!!

Let's forget our differences, ApocalypseKurtz, and all despise the Rams together.

Flatlander, it's good to see a Rams fan actually expressing an opinion. I see that the arrogance and smugness that team displayed during the playoffs has not extended to all their fans. I retain the hope that the people of the fair city of St. Louis can be saved.

hehe

Actually I am from Nebraska, and have been a Rams fan since Eric Dickerson.

There have been many rough years. And hopes crushed by the hater 'Niners.

I was thrilled when the team moved to St. Louis. I was sick when they drafted Tony Banks...:(

But the last couple of years have been very good to me.:goodjob:

As a fan of smashmouth football, I absolutely loved what the Rams did on Sunday. But it won't work with the Patriots. The defense is too physical for that. And much bigger than Philly's undersized front seven.

But I bet 76 year old cornerback Otis Smith is very nervous;)!!!

Indeed, Rams fans come from all over. But I was compelled to make a comment about the Rams' arrogance. Before and after the game against the Packers, the gloated about how fast they were and how good they were and etcetera, etcetera, etcetera.

By the way, Flatlander, if you're from Nebraska, how come you say your location is Fort Frozen Tundra? The REAL Frozen Tundra is Lambeau Field, Green Bay, Wisconsin! Home of the PACKERS! YEAH!!!! Ahem.

Yeah, Alaskans would find Green Bay this year downright balmy. I live in south-central WI, where it's still supposed to be pretty cold. However, the high today was a pitiful, pitiful 28 degrees F and there's no snow except at ski resorts (stupid global warming!). Green Bay is having similar climate issues, I believe, but it is still traditionally the Frozen Tundra. Just watch the old videos of the Ice Bowl from the 60s.

Anyway, back to football. Did anyone else notice the arrogance of the Rams? I expected to get a few flames for mentioning that, but nothing's happened yet.

Nope.

Wanna know why?

Bet you can guess! They are winners... Winners and heavy favorites can say what they want to...

The media gobbles it up.

Plus, Kurt Warner, Marshall Faulk, Grant Wistrom, Aeneas Williams, and a few others aren't doing any of that "big talk" crap.

As great football players (sometimes) do, they let their play speak for itself.

The few that do talk, do so only to hype the game, themselves and whatever else they can hype. Just a human reaction.

These guys are really good. Maybe the best unit ever. Some of them are talking...

At least they haven't turned into "The Murderin' Ray Lewis'"...

I mean the Ravens of course.
