Another Spidey reboot? with retro animation?? Why :dunno:

Points for the old school song though... :)
Because Hollywood and Big TV are petrified of taking chances with ideas and IP's - chance taken that were the meat and drink of media entertainment prior to the Turn of the 21st Century - and want nothing but endless reduxes. And, now that Lynch is no longer with us - R.I.P. - that's one less of the few big name directors who consistently took such chances. It's all just a recycling and dairy farming industry from now on, as far as can be predicted. :(

I don't have a source to hand on my phone, but I believe it was originally to be MCU-adjacent.

It isn't now because they found the timeline too constraining (a good move imo).

Honestly, I think diversifying is a good idea. Maybe this is aimed more at a younger audience? Not everything has to be for us grognards :D (I say, affectionately).

I do wish art folks were paid their worth. Alas, Marvel (and Disney) are famously pretty poor with their VFX and animation teams. Silly when you think about it - the company behind Mickey Mouse, cheaping out on animation.

Disney Brothers Cartoon Studios was their original name when they were first established in 1923 - 101 years ago.

If anyone who frequents this thread even occasionally hasn't yet watched Daredevil (2015), I will be heading up a new government agency tasked with rounding you all up shortly.

Seriously, though. No more waiting. Daredevil is probably my #1 MCU project/product, and one of my favorite tv series of all time, regardless of genre. I think Vincent D'Onofrio is the best performance as a villain in the entire MCU, and one of the best supervillains in all of live-action superhero film & television. I might rank him 2nd, behind Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight. Speaking of The Dark Knight, Daredevil wouldn't exist without it. If you liked or loved The Dark Knight, Daredevil is practically a sequel, but longer and with better character-development. Also, the fight scenes are [flipping] unhinged, some of the best in all of action-movie history. There's one fight in particular in the first season that I think literally deserves to be in the movie-making textbooks. People tend to over-use the term "instant classic", but this one really deserved to be called that.

Just watching the 1st-season trailer again is literally giving me goosebumps. I suspect Daredevil: Born Again will be written as a jumping-on point for people who never watched the first 3 seasons, as it should be, but I do think season 1 will give you the background for that series, in addition to just being amazing in its own right.

One caveat: This show is mega-[freaking]-violent. Not "comic book"-violent, either. Not Sam Raimi-style funny-violent. Broken bones, traumatic brain injuries, and trips to the emergency room. It's like a UFC fight, with no referee. Daredevil [screws] people up. (And then Frank "The Punisher" Castle shows up in season 2, and folks are lucky to only end up in the hospital.)

Sony Removes Marvel Movie From Release Schedule After Kraven's Disastrous Performance

Sony's Spider-Man Universe seems dead after Kraven the Hunter failed to make an impact at the box office.

Per ScreenRant, Sony has officially updated its 2025 release calendar, which is now notably absent of a previously untitled Marvel film that had been slated for release on June 27, 2025. Though this move comes without any sort of statement on Sony's part, this coupled with the apparent cancelations of both the planned El Muerto feature film starring Bad Bunny and the Hypno Hustler feature film starring Donald Glover makes it painfully clear that Sony's Spider-Man Universe has effectively been shuttered for good.

Following the success of Sony's various takes on the Spider-Man feature film franchise starring Toby Maguire and Andrew Garfield, respectively, the studio branched out into films featuring the villains of the Wall-Crawler's iconic rogues gallery. The first of these was 2018's Venom starring Tom Hardy, which was followed in 2021 by Venom: Let There Be Carnage. The success of these two films opened the door for further entries in Sony's take on the Spider-Man universe, including 2022's Morbius, which was infamously received with ironically open arms by audiences, leading to a catastrophic second theatrical run for the Jared Leto-led vampire superhero film.

2024 marked the biggest year for Sony's Spider-Man Universe, with the release of three films, the first of which was Madame Web in February. Starring Dakota Johnson, Sydney Sweeney, Isabela Merced, Celeste O'Connor, Emma Roberts, Mike Epps, and Tahar Rahim, Madame Web opened to near universally negative reviews from critics and audiences alike. October marked the release of Venom: The Last Dance, which closed out Sony's symbiote trilogy with an impressive box office haul of $479 million on a budget of less than $120 million, yet suffered middling-to-negative reviews as a whole.

The latest and presumably final film in Sony's Spider-Man Universe, Kraven the Hunter, introduced Aaron Taylor-Johnson as the titular superpowered hunter. Not only did Kraven the Hunter receive a slew of negative reviews upon its release, it bombed at the global box office, making up only $61.5 million of its $110-$130 million budget. Prior to the film's release, Taylor-Johnson opened up about what drew him to Kraven the Hunter in the first place.

"I think there was something unique about this character and something grounded," he explained. "We’ve all had enough of seeing certain studio films, a certain kind of pop culture… where they’re churning out stuff that dilutes wanting to go to the cinema. I wouldn’t have signed onto it if I felt there wasn’t something to really bring to life with this character."

'I'm Happily Retired': Chris Evans Shuts Down Rumors of MCU Return in Avengers: Doomsday

Marvel Cinematic Universe star Chris Evans shuts down rumors of a return in Avengers: Doomsday.

Speaking to Esquire, MCU costar and current Captain America Anthony Mackie remarked on a recent report that Evans would be returning to the franchise for the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday. "I didn't know," Mackie exclaimed in response. "I talked to Chris a few weeks ago and it wasn't on the table then. At least, he didn't tell me it was on the table, because I asked him. I was like, 'You know, they said they're bringing everyone back for the movie. Are you coming back?"

Mackie went on to not that, even though Evans had mentioned being "happily retired" from the MCU, his own manager had been the one to mention Evans' MCU comeback. After speaking to Evans himself following the interview with Mackie, the former made it clear that he would not be making an MCU comeback anytime soon. "That's not true, though," Evans said of the rumor. "This always happens. I mean, it happens every couple years - ever since Endgame. I've just stopped responding to it."

Evans made his MCU debut in 2011's Captain America: The First Avenger before going on to reprise the role across numerous other titles in the form of the Star-Spangled Avenger. Evans' latest turn as Steve Rogers, better known as Captain America, was in 2019's Avengers: Endgame, which marked the character's in-universe retirement after one final outing alongside the rest of Earth's Mightiest Heroes. While Evans has returned for other Marvel Studios projects in the time since, namely 2024's Deadpol & Wolverine, he has yet to pick back up the shield, which made its way to Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson during the events of 2021's The Falcon and the Winter Soldier series on Disney+.

Mackie recently opened up about the importance of the role, both to him personally and to the next generation of audiences. "I think it's just as important for black kids to see a black Captain America as it is for white kids," Mackie said. "Growing up my favorite hero was green, it wasn't about race or anything. It was about him being a good guy trying to do the right thing. It's very important for kids of all races to be able to watch and have someone to look up to no matter what they look like, and see that that package comes with a good human being as opposed to what they've been perceived as by everyone else."

Avengers: Doomsday is currently expected to arrive in theaters on May 1, 2026.

Just to play devil's advocate, he'd say that, whether not he has retired or if he's making a surprise cameo in the film.
