Superslug Monarch #1 2B

By 'done' I mean the city already has an aqueduct, marketplace, hospital and if possible a harbor. These cities are now producing nothing but military units for shield disbanding in other towns.

Since someone beat me to the punch on knocking off EMan's Monarch score, I've had a change of heart and am running the score calculator.

1700ad projection is 28145 points.

1814ad score projection is about 30000 points and has been holding steady at that for a while. My hats off to Takeo and EMan, I don't think I'm going to make it...

1820ad: I backed the luxury slider down from 100% to 0 and set all specialists to Civil Engineers. Almost all my cities are working on Mass Transits. I'm in Democracy now, so I'm going to use the cash to rush the slower producing cities.

I've also constructed Longevity. I'll leave it active for a little while in order to speed up population growth. I'll likely ditch it as soon as I'm done constructing Mass Transits.

Once the Transits are done, I'll send the slider back up to 100% and generate my gold off of specialists. The first two turns back at 100% are when I'll run my next score projection, but I'm 95% certain I blew it...

Now I'm just hoping to beat my old score.

I'm with you on this Superslug!:) Please don't feel bad! I had a tough time to reach 38K on Emperor level. Since they almost got that many points at the Monarch level; imagining what they could do at the Emperor level (I'm sure they would break 45K or more - no doubt!).

Okay, while I occasionally chop up quotes, I don't often resequence them, but it'll help keep my thoughts orderly:

I really do think I could have hit 40,000 points on this map, maybe even 45K (baseless claim, though, we'll never know). My opening play was never better, I hit Steam Power faster than ever, my combat was faster than ever. What killed me was screwing up the milk phase. Looking back on it, I know I abandoned way too many towns (and lost a lot of pop as such). Additionally, while milking under Communism, towns that had finished their improvements should have been set to Horsemen instead of Wealth so that I could upgrade to Cavalry and disband for shields in other towns.

My last (and biggest mistake) was switching to Democracy. I'm not sure why I did it. Right before I did, I went through every single town and hitting the whip key. I slaughtered anywhere from a quarter to a third of my population that turn. There's just something too tempting about killing off my own citizens. It really did please the sadist in me, I was laughing my ass for hours.

I'm shaking my head at making such huge mistakes, but I'm not hating myself over it. This game was my first Archipelago, my first serious use of C3C specialists, my first time waiting for RR before attacking, my first time in a long time using Communism. It was simply the most educational game I've played in a long time and I'll come out much better because of it.

I can't really stomach this game anymore. The time I've spent on it so far was by no means wasted considering that I had enormous amounts of fun and learned more than I could have possibly imagined.

However, all that's left is milking for score, and considering that the potential score is so much lower than it should have been, I'm not going to continue.

I dropped Settlers to trigger Domination in 1864ad and got a score of slightly over 20,000 points. Files were zipped and submitted, if only to fill a slot.

1.15 installation deleted.
Mapfinder active on 1.22...

Well, I think your attempt was a good learning experience. Especially a good learning experience for NOT doing the way you did for an HoF attempt ;]. But still, it was a good experiment for you and all of HoFfers!

I was pulling for ya 'slug!.............Hey, with your dedication and drive, you know it's just a matter of time before you hit the Big Time!.......by YOUR standards! :)

:( Too bad. It's not easy to make #1, though I bet 28000 would rank higher than 20000.

It seems to me you might benefit from a written outline game plan that might save you from some of the mistakes you made. Anyway thanks for sharing and good luck next time! :goodjob:

I only hope my posts do actually help some players, even if slightly. And yes, it was a tremendous learning experience. My discipline and game plan are both considerably more evolved and battle tested now.

I appreciate your support. For what it's worth, I'm not taking a break between games like I usually do. Quite the contrary, I'm actually pretty jazzed and ready to go. The only question is going to be what level. For now I'm tinkering on Deity, but it may be Emperor or Demigod. It all depends on how my starts go. I've already tossed a few maps...

I've already got a 28000 game posted on Monarch. I didn't see a point in doing it again.

No big deal. If I didn't already have that game, I would have milked this sucker to the end.

Seems like 10,000 x level is the bar that has been set for high scores. We have 10,000 on Chieftian and 80,000 on Sid. Some levels, particular Emporer, are lagging when compared to this scale. I almost wonder if the fact that though levels are in-between a pure builder game (as on cheiftain) and a pure war game (Sid) has something to do with that.

You're right about the 10,000 base score. I think the reason it hasn't been applied to all levels yet though is not the levels themselves but the fact they haven't all been played as much as Sid or Chieftain since C3C civs (particularly agricultural ones) were allowed into the HoF.
