As a former soldier of the US Army's 10th Mountain Division, it is with mixed emotions that I watch my old unit deploy overseas. The next generation of young people are going into harms way, and I want to do something to help.

If anyone wants to write our service men and women, click on this link:

It is free. They will print out your letter and send it for you, so no licking stamps or anything. (Unless you like the taste of glue...) ;)

I served in Somolia from July-December 1993, and I bet the vets here on the CFC will back me up on this, its very encouraging to get mail from home. I feel, as a civilian, that I'm doing my part to help the real hero's out there protecting my ass.

I also hope to generate some discussion about what people are feeling at this point. It seems to me that the country, even alot of the world, is pulling together like they did in WWII. It is an amazing time to live in.

Even if you dont support the politicians or the military, you can send a letter of support to the people doing their jobs.

Its a tough job.

Well my feelings at this point are a bit conflicting. I'm pretty young, with my 19th birthday just two days ago, and my feelings tell me that this isn't important because important events only happen in the past. Now I know this isn't true, and what has been going on the last month or so is a big deal, but it just seems like its only happening on TV like some West Wing episode or action movie. All through school we are taught about the big events in history such as WW2 where the world comes together, so now when something big is happening it feels surreal.

Its probably a healthy thing to not dwell on it too much. Im trying to get out and do other things instead of watching the news over and over. My mood gets too funky otherwise.

What can one say? I am just a young Aussie who'll do whatever is needed, whatever happens, and who expresses the utmost best wishes for all those heroes out there doing their job for humanity.
Ain't gonna be no draft or nought, in spite of what the liberals anticipate, so it comes down to supporting our professionals all the ****ing way.
Good hunting and God bless.

I am a peacemonger, but my heart is definately with our troops! I pray that they remain courageous in the face of what they must endure.

I added my name to the Signature of Love page--I'll write, and do other things as well.

Well, it's begun. The armed forces of the US, Britain, Germany, France, Australia, Canada and others are at war.

I urge everyone to at least sign the Signature page at the site above. The people who lost loved-ones in the Sep 11 attack would appreciate it Im sure.

He's flying a cargo plane, right? So he's not in the attack yet

They started the humanitarian aid already? I've heard Bush and blair talking about it, but I didn't know they were going to move so quickly... I mean the attack isn't over yet... They aid will probably come in day light. Then the B-2's can't hide anymore

It is great that people are pulling together- its just a shame it always takes something so horrible to bring that mind-set about.

That's the power of democracy. People under other froms or goverments always think we're falling apart. But when the country is in need almost all people will join together (except for juize and miko, who prefer to wait for the terrorists to kill them because they live in the western world and the western world is bad)

I watched the pentagon news confrence and the Sec Def said the food was falling as he spoke. Better to drop food in the dark when the bad guys cant see you I would imagine. What a sad state of affairs.

How much do you want to bet they shoot down a cargo plane to spite the coalition?

As a former member of the U.S. Army I wish all Armed Forces personnel, with a special mention to the 32nd Army Air Defense Command...

Good Luck and Godspeed.

Targets are hit during the night, that's standard to avoid stinger missles.
Then relief aid comes during daylight hour.

Slowhand - nice graphics on your homepage:goodjob:

Stingers, or anything else they have, dont fly high enough to hit a B-2 or B-52. The B-1 flies low but it comes in at treetop level, drops its ordinance and is gone. One idiot with a rifle could hit a cargo plane though. The cargo pilots have to fly relatively low to do thier mission, the US hasn't invented laser guided food-palettes yet.

I venture to guess that the humanitarian mission is the most dangerous at this point.

I see this morning that the military strikes last night were mainly to protect the cargo planes from Taliban interference. Also it appears there is escort for them, fighters and electronic warfare.

Remember, there are alot of military personel that are not (and will not be) on TV somewhere over there. These guys have one damn scary job.

I mean the special forces. They are probably dressed like arabs and carrying AK-47s, trying to blend in. Fake beards and all. They are very unconventional, and could be in the backseat of your car while your driving it and you wouldn't know!
