Will Republican senators already facing tough reelection battles keep McConnell from ramming through a Trump nominated lunatic?

Obviously the Trumpists are going to demand it but in states that aren't totally controlled by the death cult the level of obvious party over country on display would really hurt. This isn't totally hopeless.

May we live in interesting times...

Think Mitch and Donald will appoint a new one before or after the election?
I expect a major battle over who the candidate is and if s/he can be confirmed.

Interesting times.

The Republicans are totally shameless...a lame duck president appointing and a lame duck senate majority confirming without debate is fully within their potential.
Am glad the Repubs are in the driver's seat.

:( :agree:

After firmly establishing under Obama that the President could not appoint a Justice during an election year, rather "the people must decide."

Captain of the Titanic: "Damn the Icebergs! Full speed ahead!" :crazyeye:

It's less about who or even if someone will replace her that's already set in stone the question is how the Dems respond. I'd say nuke the filibuster pass a 13 man court and DC Statehood to ensure the Senate does not fall in 2022.

I'm hoping that with Murkowski already coming out against a 2020 confirmation, and Collins needing every scrap of support she can in a race she is losing, there are at least 2 more GOP senators facing tough enough battles they are willing to postpone a confirmation to retain their seats.
Of course, I'm currently something like 0/89 on "There is at least one decent Republican", so yeah.

So, for three and a half years we've been waiting for "Republicans of conscience" to take a stand.

The Lincoln Project proves they do exist, but clearly this has not reached as high as the United States Senate, at least since the passing of John McCain.

Will this be enough to finally reveal that there are two Republicans with a conscience at the highest level of government? McConnell is never going to let confirmation reach the floor before election day, but if the GOP loses control of the White House or the Senate he will surely try to push through a lame duck confirmation.

Romney? Maybe? As the GOP collapses are there any others who might rise to the occasion?

Easy to say when you are half a planet removed from the consequences.
Don't forget "Old, so not going to have to deal with any of this for much longer".

This is so so bad. fwiw McConnell will not wait and no way they don't get someone in in the next 30 days.

This is the way.

RIP Justice Ginsburg. Getting on the Supreme Court is no small accomplishment!

As for politics, rut roh.
