I dont understand how this thing works. When you declare friendship with another civ, both you and them get 10% to GP generation? Problem : The AI is usaully too ******** to accept declaraitons of friendship. And you get influence for gifting GPs to city states?

Why would you ever gift GPs to city states? Just use gold to get influence...

It's not the AI's fault if you can't keep a good relationship with it going. You shouldn't have that much trouble getting a few DoF's, but don't look at the bonus and start planning to DoF with everyone in the world.

You might want to gift a GP to a CS to get the influence...is a third general or admiral, or a profit with one more chance to spread religion, really worth that much gold? I'd rather have 2k gold to rushbuy units than have yet another GG, assuming I want that influence either way.

An average game of mine can usually get 3 DoFs in a standard 8 civ game on Immortal.

Remember, the 10% GP generation stacks. So you can ultimately get it up to 70% provided you are allied with all 7 civs in the game. Imagine coupled with garden, pisa, national epic, freedom opener, myyyyyy goodness.

90 influence is no small joke. It's more or less an equivalent of 1000g. It will give more influence than a great merchant can, it will make use of extra GGs and great admirals, the one you can get from Honor and Commerce, respectively.

It will make use of a great prophet as well. After you spread it 3 times, you can still gift it to a CS which is, like I said, 1000g worth. You can also capture other great prophets, then gift it to a CS.

OP, I don't think you've really been playing. Unless you are totally messing with diplomacy there can be at the barest 1 friendship going on in the game. My Sweden was able to DOF with all 7 AIs. The GPP bonuses are unimaginable - way above 100% in every city. Gift away my first few GPRs to religious city-states, let them generate the fpt for me to buy even more GPs. Gift to cultural city-states, let them finish the Patronage tree, they give GPs to me, I give it to others, repeat. If there's war, gift away the extra generals and admirals while fighting with UUs.

unless you are warmongering you should be able to hold onto about 3-4 DOFs in most games so its a nice little bonus. Just don't DOW anyone or finish their last city, thats generally enough to get by diplomatically.

you get 90 influence for the GP gift which is the equivalent of 1000 gold, so its not insignificant. You can gift worthless prophets you captured from other AIs, for example, or extra generals/admirals. Even your own prophets are good for gifting - you can spread religion 3 times then gift with 1 spread remaining. It also works pretty well in combination with the patronage policy that gives you free GP.

I captured a Great Prophet from an enemy civ and attempted to gift it to a city state, but didn't have the option. Anyone tested gifting a partially used GP that was made by one's civ?

You are supposed to go to the CS screen, click gift a unit option, and then click the Great Person.

It's not like giving a unit where you can just move into their terrain and gift it that way. I tried this and it never works, no matter what great person it is, lol. Learned from my mistakes, I did.

So the strategy relies on constant warfare to generate and gift great generals/admirals?

Sometimes i get lucky with quests and i dont have to gift any gold at all to get allies. e.g. by building wonders, connecting lots of luxury resources, and taking out barbarian encampments.

I was able to get celts to friend me, but both iroquois and denmark refused to even though we have no contesting borders and trade frequently. Why?

No. Many times I had a Great Person (usually Prophet or Admiral) that I do not need. Of course, in many games I didn't get any useless GP.

I think you don't need bother asking about friendship. If AI wants it he/she will propose. Then you can ask a renovation.

One of the best method to make AI friend is to use your spies and share intrigues with AIs.

The strategy (diplo vc) requires both war and freindship, making it one of the most interesting civs to play, and actually makes diplo matter. I feel a bit like 'Team America' with them! A really interesting civ.

Remember that you can get a GP from war, faith (esp industrial and later), patronage, specialists (big bonus here) and the bonuses from SP's and WW's. With this in mind, you can get up to 30 (possibly more) per game, so there's no need to spend them all - you can still plant a couple of your first academies, rush a few wonders and plant a landmark, burn for a golden age, spread your religion (mentioned above, take the %25 %25 bonus for GP's as your enhancer) and still dominate the CS's, with a couple extra votes for your permanent friends!

All in all, a gret civ for learning how the diplo mechanic works - how to denounce the right people, use the share intrigue option selectively, generally set the civs against each other or together as you require for your friend bloc, induce a dow etc. etc. etc. Great on huge maps!
