Hello, Sir!
Haha, there was an announcement at E3 about a new Zelda game for the Wii (along with Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Pikmin 3), and that motivated me to start this thread.

The Zelda series is undoubtedly one of the most chronologically confusing ever. BTW what's your theory on the chronological order of the games. I got interested by Gametrailers' theory as well, which goes like this...

Hyrule Formation
King Daltus
Actual Legend of Zelda
Minish Cap
Ocarina of Time

...then it goes off with Hyrule A and Hyrule B. Hyrule A proceeds with Majora's Mask, Link's Awakening, Zelda I, Zelda II, Four Swords Adventures, and A Link to the Past. Hyrule B has the Wind Waker. The theory was made before Twilight Princess' release. Both Hyrules end with the Oracle games.

So does this thread have a point to it or what?

There is no chronological order. They are alternate variations on the same theme.

Well, let's see, the Link in OoT is the same in Majora's Mask (obviously), Link's Awakening, and the two NES games, according to Gametrailers. After defeating Ganon in OoT, Zelda wishes for him to live out his childhood (everybody should know that by now) and then he gets sent back to a time before he and Zelda first met. Young Link then tells the king about Ganondorf's plans, and then he goes riding off to the forest, where Skull Kid steals all his stuff on the way (well, he loses Navi, Epona, and the ocarina of time). He then goes to Clock Town in Termina, defeats Majora's Mask later, and then sets off on his way back to Hyrule, where he gets shipwrecked and dreams for all of Link's Awakening. When he goes back to Hyrule, he discovers that Ganon has destroyed the whole town and he must get all his equipment back, and meanwhile Zelda has been captured after Ganon discovered her plan to shatter her piece of the triforce and Impa is lost, starting Zelda I. Link learns that the Hyruleans "migrated" north in Zelda II, and he also awakens the original Zelda at the end after learning about the Actual Legend of Zelda. According to Gametrailers, Four Swords Adventures might also feature OoT Link as the protagonist.

I still think that Midna is the hottest gal to appear in the series.

Windwaker takes place after Twilight Princess because it's a totally different guy. Windwaker is my favorite and the only one I ever liked enough to beat.

...then it goes off with Hyrule A and Hyrule B. [...]
For a while I was really into the Zelda timeline debates, and always found the parallel timeline theories needlessly complicated. The basic timeline isn't all that hard to follow, anyway, as long as you don't mind a lot of prequels.

You have the original LoZ, followed by Zelda II.

Link to the Past is a prequel to the original, and Link's Awakening a sequel to the prequel.

Ocarina is a prequel to the preqel of the original, and Majora's Mask a sequel to the prequel of the prequel of the original.

Wind Waker comes last in the timeline so far, though some people put it in the middle, and I don't know about Twilight Princess.

I purposely leave out third-party Zeldas like the Oracle games, as well as what I'd consider minor entries like Four Swords, which is more gimmicky anyway. Also, even with the timeline, "variations on a theme" is still an accurate description of most installments, and I - and several others - remain unconvinced that Nintendo has ever worried much about keeping anything more than a very loose overarching story in these games.

If you want to discuss this in more depth, you're probably better off going someplace like Zelda Universe, where the forumites take this kind of thing more seriously.

Alternatively, there's the Angry Video Game Nerd's take. If you don't mind foul language, check it out.

i wouldn't worry about the order... just sit back and enjoy them! also... did any one else find phantom hourglass rather dissapointing?

No, the phantom hourglass was one of the better zelda's...............
