Sword of Islam: Strategy discussion

Nah, just leave a unit on the tile that would spawn Sis and it will prevent the spawn.

Otherwise, can't fault your strategy though. :goodjob:

That town is a great place to build anyways, though.

whats the secret to Ak Konylu? I am having real problems fighting Georgia in any attempt. Everytime I play they have huge stacks of Monaspa Lancers.

Easiest UHV to get an Augustus Caesar. 8 provinces can be obtained by 970 at the latest. Built 3 settlers and settled Gandhar, Farghana, Kyzyl Kum. Captured Multan and Lahore (Punjab), Delhi (Uttar Bharat), Bamiyan (Hindu Kush). Together with core provinces Tocharistan and Sogdiana that's 8. I was even contemplating sending people to Taklamakan but it wasn't necessary.

Gave away Marv to Ajmer (doesn't count as losing a city)--even though it's core, it's undefensible and roads kept getting pillaged. It built nothing but military which went back to Otrar.

Killed a Ghaznavid horse archer, made peace, OB. Later on they even spontaneously vassalized after a generous tech trade and since I kept most of my empire (except for a city that declared indy on me).

Single great artist did the trick, although I set the culture counter to 10% until all cities have BFC. Citizen workers are also part of the "aristocracy", you know, and give culture. Marx would be furious. :D

I am fairly new to this mod. I tried achieving a time victory with the Samanids. Everything went well. I kept it to Khorasan(east+ west), Sogd, Khwarezm, Kyzyl-Kum and Tocharistan and having wiped off Timurids, Khwarezmshahids, etc. was the top player up until the 15th century and I was "stable". Suddenly the Shaybanids decided to appear on the map and four of five of my cities declared independence. These were big cities with high populations: all above 8 and one was 14 and were left with Balkh and Kunduz. And these cities had all the luxury resources you could think of! I just think some notion of patriotism should be incorporated with large pop. cities. It's just silly for those cities to leave the luxury of my thriving empire for a new one!

They didn't leave because your empire was doing anything wrong - it is scripted that new civs spawn at historical dates during the game. The Samanids are simply not supposed to survive into the 15th century.

Thanks! Ended up capturing all my cities back! :) Timurids re-spawned in that area as well and declared war on Shaybanids! :) So I first got rid of the Shaybanids and then the Timurids. It gets hard to stay at top though afterwards. Ottomans are huge, and Safavids are trying to catch up with them. Mughals will also get massive if you don't stop their rapid expansion.
Any suggestions as to how I should continue the game in the next 100 turns? This is how I end up if carry out playing with expansion as my top priority.

Also, one last question: Is the rebel vs barbarian status for the indie cities, dependent on the civ? There are some rebel cities that I can't enter but Safavids for example don't seem to have any problem to do so.

Could someone please list the civs which spawn conditionally?
Spawn conditionally for AI: Ayyubids+Mamluks, Ottomans;
Can respawn: Armenia as Cilicia, ByzEmpire, Ghorids as Delhi Sultanate, Abbasids, Georgia, KoJ as KoCyprus, Khwarezm as Shaybanids, Rum as Karaman, all Hindu kingdoms as sunni sultanates, Oman, Yemen, Mamluks, Sindh;
Never respawn: Makuria, Buids, Fatimids, Samanids, Seljuks, PoA, Zengids, Ghaznavids and latest dynasties.

Oh wow thanks. I was avoiding Khwarezm because I thought I'd lose all my core :lol:

Sometimes I see that my archers which are in some cities cannot be upgraded to marksmen, despite while those in other cities can be. This seems random; sometime afterward I am able to upgrade them. Is this a bug or am do I not know about some game mechanic?

EDIT: Also, is the Mali inflation hit permanent or temporary?

EDIT2: If I control only Baghdad and I am solid, can the Abbasids respawn? And if they do, will they flip Baghdad?

I was playing Armenia on Sultan, and in 1170 I had all the required provinces. Suddenly the entire Muslim world DoW'ed me (not a holy war) and the Abbasids attacked Lesser Armenia with a stack of around 25 marksmen, swordsmen and spearmen and 8 CR2 trebs. Despite having 5 HAs, 7 Guerrila 2 Vishaps and some archers, they easily took the city. Any idea how I could hae dealt with the situation in a better way? I just sat in my city and waited for them to attack.
Also the Seljuks were attacking me with a stack of highly promoted lancers, but I somehow managed to repel them.

if Abbasids and/or Seljuks grows very strong
1. start new game:D
2. surrender,become vassal state of A. or S.(my first Armenia Caliph UHV developed in this way)
3. fight in narrow mountain passes on hills/forest (not cities)
Also send spy in Mesopatamia for checking army movement, declared war to ByzEmpire when A.big stack moving to your border, then OB with A.and S. :mischief:(does not always help)

Both the Abbasids and the Seljuks were monsters. Abbasids had Zengids and Oman as vassals and controlled the whole of Iraq and Levant. Seljuks were the Shahanshah and were Solid :run:

So I might replay my game and try vassalizing to someone. Thanks for the advice.
