Synergy: Imperialistic, Leadership and the Great Wall

People should try commando on a small fleet of gunships and try out the pillage option ... :)

Excellent idea!

Such a shame gunships are so late ... they are extremely neat units and typically come with a lot of promotions if you were successful with previous wars. Its a shame you have to wait so long to promote those calvary though ... they're useless for a long time there in between.

I keep producing cavs until Advanced Flight comes in, right alongside the tanks and others (though usually in cities with lower production, as it would be a waste of hammers in a high-prod city). They're good at a highly mobile back-city defense for stray AI units that made it into my territory (for which they usually send cavs with flanking, who tend not to survive against my cavs with the combat line), and also as a mass force augmentation against some of those AI cities with a ridiculously-large stack of obsolete garrison troops in it. Three tanks, 10 infantry, and all the siege do a good job against their stronger units, but to mop up the dozens of macemen, crossbows, and what-not, cavs with blitz, baby! And later on they make good gunships with blitz!

But yeah, adding commando to the mix for some pillager cavs, I can imagine that being ownage in a fast-moving invasion--worker stealing especially, the way the AI workers are less apt to run and hide.

I find it hard to compare Imperialistic to Philosophical (another trait I like) in such a cavalier fashion as you've managed in a few sentences. They are very different and result in such a different style of play that they can't be compared without lots of qualifying statements. :D

You make many good points in your reply. I'm not necessarily disagreeing with them.

I've found that philisophical can be effectively used with a Great Wall strategy.

It's true that Cyrus gets more "bang" from the wall. But he's weak when it comes to GP generation. A philisophical leader like Gandhi is well suited to snag Stonehenge and the Great Wall and give you many more GP's which can be bulbed for a possible early military advantage (i.e. Feudalism slingshot etc.).

The immortals are great for early warring, but longbowmen are unbelievable. And you can still carry out the strategies of GG generation which are still very good as you have "The Wall."
