I like the lined one the best...I was going to try curvey borders too....but they didn't work out.

My next attempt is to take my current borders, and make a "disputed zone" in them. So they will overlap a bit...should be cool. If I can make them work.

Here's a thought: what about a fence with turnpikes/checkpoints at the places the roads cross? IIRC, that would be the corners and the midpoint of the tile edge. The trick is to get the corners right when the border changes direction. Maybe a guard shack on either side of the road, and don't worry about the bar of the turnpike?

Meaning it looks crappy when done? That it's too small? Please clarify, maybe someone could come up with a suitable workaround to your concerns, should anyone actually want to pursue the idea.
