Tactical Nuke question

Hey gang

I’ve played CIV IV for nearly twenty years, and in my experience I’m only able to launch tactical nukes from my cities, ally cites, or my own or ally forts.

But in my current game, I’m constantly seeing AI launch tactical nukes from places way beyond their normal reach.

Is there a way to move tacticals on like subs or something that I don’t understand? Or do AI get bonus versatility for tacticals?

Tactical nukes can be carried by any ship that can carry missiles. Those are missile cruisers and submarines.

The AI typically uses submarines.

AFAIK, to load them the ships have to be on the same tile as the nukes.

You are completely right, my goodness. I’ve been playing this game since 2008 and never knew you could load tacticals if you had them on the same tile as a missile cruiser, since like cruiser missiles can just rebase to them. This is a game changer, thank you so much!

Looking for the information about enemies' tactical nukes and found this thread. I was wondering how to defend against the enemies on the other continents who had some tactical nukes. Your post answered my question as well. Thanks!
