I would like to have a win on deity, before Civ4 comes out. Have won a number of times on emperor and would like to move up to deity. I do have a diplomatic win on deity and did not fight a single battle doing it. So, this time around will go for conquest. Here are the settings-

-huge map
-60% water
-archipeligo
-no barbs
-wet
-warm
-5 billion
-8 AI egypt, babylon, russia, america
japan, zulu, china and germany
-my civ is france

Picked ai that do not start with Alphabet, to have a good chance of getting to Literature first and building the Great Library. :)

Here is the start-

Civ Vanilla id assume?
well is there emperor level in vanilla?

First order of business is to get a settler factory going- so Pottery at max. After Pottery, will research Writing at minimum, then Philosophy at max and take Literature free. Hopefully! :)
Paris builds a couple of warriors, a granary and then loads of settlers. After a couple of thousand years the French empire has a few towns up and running, a palace pre-build and one luxury!

other nations seem to be busy as well-

This is C3C. I realize now that I wrote about moving up to deity, when there is DG level and also Sid level. Played lots of Vanilla and PTW, but never really moved up to deity. So, I consider deity(for me) the last plateau to 'conquer'. Tried lots of times and would usually give up somewhere in the ancient age, except for that recent diplo win. The diplomatic win on deity, lots of playing time on emperor and lots of learning from many players here has given me enough courage to try this. :)

A curragh has spotted another landmass to the southeast and is sent out into the deep waters-

This first curragh did not make it, but later two more were sent over. The curragh that did make it over the channel met Germany.

Germany offered up 15g for Alphabet, or Ceremonial Burial for Alphabet and 30g. The answer was NO!

Writing comes in after a 50-turn wait. Philosophy is targetted at full speed and will be researched in 10 turns. Finding Germany with no Alphabet was a good thing! Hope all the rest are down Alph and Writing also!

Good luck getting the philo free tech! I'd go for lit, so you can have two monopolies.

Could of either gone for Philosophy in 10 turns, get Literature free and keep another nation from getting some tech free.
Or, go for Literature in 17 turns.

Also toyed with the idea of taking the slingshot to Republic, but ended up sticking with my original plan.

Found another landmass to the west of my island-

Unfortunately the curragh sunk while trying to cross over. Lost another curragh trying to cross over to germany(to explore in opposite direction, from first one, around german landmass). Have lost 4 curraghs now. :(

The only curragh to succesfully make a suicide run, so far, found this-

Meet the Zulu and they have Alphabet and Writing.
There is still 4 turns to go on Philosophy.

Here is the current World Map-

Philosophy comes in a turn early. Zulu may have been researching it. And the free tech is-

Switch the palace prebuild(in Wonder City) to Great Library in 20 turns. Start another palace prebuild in Rheims to possibly snag Leo's.

925bc
Trade Alphabet to Germany for Bronze Working and 40g and-

Then, trade Writing to Germany for Ceremonial Burial and Warrior Code.
Woohoo! Have horses and Iron! :D

900bc
Finally got a curragh to survive a suicide run to the west and it is just a small island.

775bc
Was giving this worker orders and spotted some red that the passing curragh had revealed.

The curragh was sent out into the channel, made contact with Babylon and then sunk in the interturn. The suicide-ship survival rate has been a little low.
Babylon wants to trade Mysticism and Map Making for Philosophy and Literature. Nope, not giving up Literature. Also pass on 650g and Philosophy for Map Making.

730bc
Past the small island to the west is a light-blue border-

The next turn America is contacted and they have 27 cities!

Woohoo!! :D

With just 1 turn left on the Great Library, I decide to sell Literature around the table.

Zululand gives Mysticism and 230g
Germany gives 175g
Babylon gives Polytheism and 156g

The treasury is growing nicely at +72g/turn and a total of 2624g.

 :band:

Over the next few turns Map Making, Mathematics and Code of Laws come in courtesy of the 'library'.
