I have now updated to v4.0. Push notifications are enabled, but the best "feature" that I can see is that the annoying pop-up has now been replaced with a "smart banner" (as they call it) to let people know that the forum supports tapatalk.
I can't remember who asked for it, or who mused about it as a requested featured, but I recall someone mentioning something about thinking it would be great if they were notified when someone quotes one of their posts. Well, tapatalk does that. And even better, it notifies you when someone mentions you in a post!
