What's the exact effect of turning a citizen into a tax collector or a scientist ?

I noticed that when i do this the revenue (or the research) generated by the city stays exactly the same. However, if i turn citizens into tax collectors my income increases...how does this work ? I mean, if my city revenue stays the same, howcome my total income increases ? How does this work with scientists ?

The tax man is like a federal tax collector -- his money is not part of the city funds, but is reported in your income statement. Also If you are in anarchy, you still get taxman revenue, but none from the cities. I suppose the science works the same way, but have not seen a report

But how much does each tax collector collect ? I'm asking this because i assume that they collect a percentage of the city income or city scientific production, and it would be interesting to know if it is more profitable to make tax collectors and use the extra money to put more money into science with the slider, or the other way around.

My aproach has been always to create scientists in cities that have big sci production, and tax collectors in cities wich generate a lot of revenue...but i would like to be sure this makes sense...

One taxman create one gold, one scientist create one beaker.
Yes that's all.
Except for the fact that their work is not subject to corruption, they are in all ways inferior to a laborer that just fournish one trade.

Are you sure ? Then it's not a percentage thing ? Oh well...

It is definitely one gold, one beaker, not a percentage. The city display does not show the increase, but the domestic advisor screen (F1) does. The specialists are most useful in cities far from the capital, as corruption is about 95% at a distance of 20 squares and it is impossible to get any gold or research out of a city the regular way.

Yep, one each, no more no less. I will look at captured cities that do not produce, set the worker level to keep food flowing, mayby slow growing and convert the rest into as many taxmen or scientists as I can. Sometimes have to keep one or two entertainers for happiness. Now, if these people were actually productive.... but they are not, so I get some use out of them. With an annual budget of 1700 gold, two or three extra dont matter much... unless you go into anarchy, and they they alone keep working.

Another detail --facility bonuses do not apply! You get one gold per taxman whether or not you have a marketplace or bank! And you get one beaker per scientist with or without libraries!

That is good to know.

Next time I get a new city far from home producing one shield due to coruption I will put everyone to work in my laps
