Hey folks,

having trouble with this feature. I couldn't assign my slave to my schoolhouse, and after going through various threads here, there seems to be some confusion whether its even possible. So can someone please tell me how to use the education system? How do I assign a teacher? When I go to the education screen it says no teacher for everyone. Do I need to satisfy their demands? And if so, what is the cone icon for fishermen? Please assume that I've gone through the in game information and searched this board a bunch. W\

Slaves can be educated, I think, only on highest levels of educational buildings, as their penalty to education is too high.

As for the way it works, it's actually simple. When you have educational building, you need a specialist from the professions teachable on that level of building to work in the settlement for at least one turn. It doesn't actually have to work in its specific profession, anything within the colony would do. Once this is done, his profession is added to the list of professions that can be learned in that colony. Then you need a student. Refugees are best, then free colonists, and then intendured servants, criminals, slaves and converted natives. But everything but refugee or free colonist recieves penalty for education, and is generally not worth the effort. A workaround for converted natives and intendured servants is to have them learn something at closest friendly native village, then clear their speciality. As for slaves and criminals...dump them on fields, criminals can also be used as pioneers, I think. Just have a cavalry unit, at least a scout, standing by to bring them back when they flee.

Pioneers and soldiers don't flee, so you can have servants and criminals be those no problem.
