(I also posted this in the Beyond the Sword bugs sub-forum)

I've searched the forums but didn't find anything about this issue.

These are the settings I use:

Version: Beyond the Sword Patched with the official 3.17 patch.
Game type: Custom Game, single player.
Map: Team Battlegrounds, Top vs Bottom, Ancient starting era, marathon play.
Additional settings: Aggressive AI, No vassal states/espionage/tech brokering/tech trading/barbarians/tribal villages/random events, choose religion.
Victory conditions: Conquest, Time, Cultural, Space Race.
Difficulty: Noble
Players: Me and 5 AI's vs 6 other AI's.

I started 10 games with these settings and 9 out of 10 have the following problems:

* The AI's in my team only builds some units but no huge army. The opponents are building huge armies. This will wipe out my team because I can't protect my whole team.

* I can't negotiate about what religion/government my team members will choose. When the opponents discover a religion and spread it to my team, they will convert to it and stick with it till the rest of the game even if I or they will found a new religion.

* When in war, the enemy prefers to attack me even if I have the largest/strongest army of my team.
I can hold out against one or two enemies but when playing 6 vs 6 I had to defend myself against 6 opponents with 12 siege weapons + a lot of other units per army. Even when I used a Civ with the 'protective' ability, I was destroyed.
My team didn't protect me because they only care about their borders.

I really like to try the team play in CIV4 but this almost always happen when I'm playing which is...no fun at all and my team will lose in the end.

I played in a game against Washington and others. Washington rushed to me with a huge army. Then I restarted the game with Washington in my team and he didn't build a thing.
They do build some units but no armies and they are building some wonders and most of the buildings. They are expanding with settlers about the same as the enemy does but the army is the main problem.

Is there a way to set my team members on 'war-like'? And what about the religion/government? Can I convince them to choose the same as I have? Because it doesn't appear in the diplomacy screen.

Being teamed up with an AI sounds like a cruel and unusual form of torture.

Get a human friend instead.

Make certain Shaka is on your team, he always builds loads of units even if teamed with a human. He will also actively pursue a war. He won't protect your borders but he will invade and maintain pressure on the enemy.

I like the...unusual and cruel torture from time to time :).
I just want to play teams and since none of my friends are playing this game...

I know that some leaders are programmed with more aggression like Shaka/Sitting Bull.
Even with random personalities on/off, it's still like my team is almost abandoning me.
Even with Shaka in my team, I tried every leader, they al do the same and that is not building units while the enemy is.

I like the team elements in the game...but for now I can't use them.

For the record Sitting Bull is the least aggressive leader in the game. Less than Lincoln and Ghandi. :king:
