Spoiler :
Anyone interested in playing a team pitboss game (on the side) just for fun? I am hosting a couple of other pitboss games already and I think the server is probably good for at least one more.. I have put a test game up at
munro-pitboss.no-ip.org:2060
If interested, check you can log in and claim a civ, and then post here with any requests or thoughts on the game settings. To get the discussion started, my initial suggestions for settings are below. However, game speed and turn timer are really the only firm settings at his point. Everything else is up for discussion.
Suggested game settings
I like the idea of a cylindrical no-ocean map like Lakes, Rainforest or Boreal, with pretty much all standard options allowed, including tech trading, vassal states, permanent alliances, barbs, events etc.
Options like tech trading are often disabled in pitboss games, sicne they make it quite easy for unbalancing exclusive tech-trading blocs to emerge and dominate. However, tech trading also makes it easier to stop the leaders from running away with the game (since it makes it easier for everyone else to share techs and catch up). And it adds an interesting extra dimension to the game.
Permanent alliances (and vassal states) open up interesting possibilities for joint-victories. This could make the late game (as well as earlier alliances) more fun because you could eventually share joint honours, which might be more satisfying for some than being forced to backstab their allies of a year or more.
I suspect all of these options become a little less unbalancing as well with a no-ocean all land map (like Lakes) since more civs should have a chance to meet each other earlier - so less chance of ending up isolated and without hope - as can happen with continents if you end up on the wrong side of the only big tech-trading bloc on your continent. etc
So... with that in mind, here are my suggestions:
Enjoy!

So... with that in mind, here are my suggestions:
- Lakes; high water level; rocky climate; default map size (erring on the size of spacious) for number of players participating; cylindrical wrap
- Normal game speed
- Turn timer 48 hours
- Permanent alliances enabled
- All other options set to defaults - including events, barbs, tech trading etc. all on (reasonable-use rules will apply to protect against city-gifting and vassal exploits etc)
- Deity difficulty; to slow down tech rates a little (with TT on); and to give the AI a chance while we find a sub, if anyone has to be kicked to AI for any reason; (AI bonus exploits prohibited)
- Random civs; no duplicates
- Up to 18 players (team Cavaleiros only)
Enjoy!
