Hi all, I once again come here looking for advice. This is a great community. My typical tech path is worker techs, then I either go up the Literature line if I'm peaceful or head toward Engineering (trebs) if planning warring. I tend to trade for Monarchy, but not until later in the game (too late?). I'm wondering if most people prioritize this more, or where it is usually fit in. I am a Monarch player, but win nearly every time, so getting ready to move up.

It depends on several factors like what the map offers, but I tend to prioritize Alpha>Currency or Aeths and trade for Maths and Monarchy.

I rarely outright tech Engineering, by the way. It is an AI priority tech and can always be traded for when needed. I may put a turn or 2 into to help facilitate a trade.

If you ignore the marathon vs. normal threads that pollute the board, i guess you are right ^^ ;)
But seriously, if you trade for monarchy you are on the right track.
It is on a bad tech path (unless you do the oracle), and usually very overrated.
That is because of things like slavery, the chance of ressource trades with the AIs once calendar is teched, and cities can still be just as crispy with milk while they are smaller :D

Those tend to pop up. A year (or so) ago it was specialist economy vs cottage economy. Now it's marathon vs normal. Personally, I learned a lot from the SE vs CE debates (until they got really dumb), and I don't understand playing on Marathon, as my typical game is nearly 10 hours on normal so I couldn't imagine a marathon.

Thanks for your input. Good to hear I'm on the right path with trading for it.

Marathon vs Normal isn't current forum interest, it's just due to one poster marigoldsomething who's also advocated things like only buildings warriors and settlers and no workers.

Monarchy is nice to trade for. It's not that important if you have access to other happiness. If you're stuck at your base 4 happiness, then sometimes it's necessary, but even then you have to be careful not to overdo it. If you can get say 4 Calendar resources, that's probably a better target.

You (I mean everyone) should, perhaps, stop making references to this fad because you're giving to him the notoriety he wanted to get...as an attention seeker. :shifty:

(monarch level/normal speed))Only time I self research monarchy is for the Feudalism/oracle slingshot. The AI prioritize it so trade for it.This lets you put your beakers into better techs like Metal casting/construction/currency-all of which provide Happiness from buildings if you need it.If your IND or CRE then forges and colloseums are nice and cheap. There are the early UB like the Hammann and Ball court which are worth it too.On this level monarchy is up fo trade around turn 100 so no need to self research it imo.
