this has been bugging me for a while but is there a trading penalty if the Human players want to trade tech with a AI? last night when i traded for the Bio Tech. The AI wouldn't accept a even trade, it only accepted after i threw in Divine Right. It even happens if the AI initiate the trade. Victoria try to trade me Enviromental tech for my composiate and wanted to pay her another 300gold :shake:

I don't know the exact details behind it, somebody has probably charted it out and I can help you look if you're that interested. But in short: the AI never gives a fair trade, often not even close to a fair one (equivalent gold or beaker count). Different AI weight things differently, it varies I think by attitude, difficulty level; from my experience, they usually expect 1.5 to 2 times what they give you back in return. Also, all military techs are more highly valued by the AI, so occasionally you can broker a better deal (closer to equal-ish beakers) if your tech is military and theirs is not. The AI also values techs by whether or not it is a monopoly (whether other teams, non-pertinent to the trade, have it). Again I don't know all the formulae but hope this helps.

there is indeed a penalty, and i believe it DOES penalize the human.

also, a civ who is 3 turns from researching usually should not accept an offer for it, so if you have it and espionage shows them researching it, trade it on the 4 turn mark.

Weird, I always get fair trades in the early game. Late game is rough though.

It really depends - I agree you can get "beaker for beaker" especially early - but it is usually a case of a tech the AI really prioritizes over the one they are trading - so from their view - it isnt a fair trade.

The key is too get techs the AI really prioritizes and you can do quite well with gold & back-filling
