If your capital city is near a source of marble does that make The Oracle a priority to build, especially when your leader is a warmonger type (excluding Monty)?

I don't got the oracle often anymore, but if I were to change my mind because of marble in my first city. I would try to grab SH, and beeline the techs for oracle, grabbing Metal casting and then going for the Agnor wat (sp). Lots of great priest. Lots of free production.

Edit: Normally I would completely ignore the Oracle, going for the Parthenon, Great Library, and Mausoleum of Maussollus. MoM is the major one you should be looking to grab. Extended golden ages are very nice and very bad if the AI manages to build it before you.

Depends a lot on starting techs and the situation. If I have mysticism, I might consider Oracle, since it's not too far of a deviation, but otherwise, even with marble, I don't look at Oracle as being as critical as other marble based wonders like GLib, MoM or Parthenon

No, but it usually means a beeline to literature.

Well what difficulty level are we discussing? At emperor/immortal I rarely hook up marble before building The Oracle. It becomes more of a strategy point of thought. Do I want a settler and a worker or the Oracle out in the next 20ish turns?

Main point is that The Oracle is a cheap enough wonder that you can just flat out build it in a hammer heavy capital or chop it out in a forested one. By the time you research masonry, quarry the marble, and connect it via roads you could have had the oracle a good portion of the way complete. Just because you don't have marble don't ignore it and just because you have marble don't assume skipping it is a waste, especially as you move up levels. Try to look at the bigger picture to see if the tech you can get from it will be of a greater use to you then more settlers or more rush units - namely more cities.

Yeah if I have marble, I might build the oracle before I hook it up, but then take Aesthetics with it so I can get to the other marble wonders that will take advantage of the discount. I usually skip the oracle though.
