Welcome to Term IV Ministry of Science

Minster For Science: Civman2004
Deputy Minister: Strider

We have not long to go until the Industrial Age, although there are still a few valuable techs left in the old Age.

Objectives:

Research stuff. Lots of stuff. Maybe use some of that stuff to research other stuff. Or to get more money so we can research more stuff. Or to build more things so we can grow bigger so we can get more money so we can...

*Hands the almighty beaker of science of to Civman*
Hopefully you have a productive term civman :)

Make sure to remind me where you getting married, later this month I know, but I've already forgotten the date. A PM would do nicely. I'll wait for awhile to wish you a good anything :).

Minister Civman,

How important do you feel Democracy is? There have been quite a few citizens--myself included--who have been calling for a change in government. As Science Minister, do you feel researching Democracy is something we should start on as soon as we are done with Steam Power, or are there other Industrial techs you would like to see researched first?

Regards,
Deputy-pope Ashburnham

Request to Ministers SaaM and Civman2004:
#1: France, Russia, and China now have Navigation. None, however, have ToG, Magnets, or Military Tradition. (Notes: MT gives the Russians their UU. Newton's will be completed in 4 if it stays in Odawara, so ToG on Turn 5 should be Safe.)

Further request to Civman
#2: There may be a split as to where to head next. Noone has Printing Press, but there's also Nationalism and Sanitation paths to be had. As well, of course, as Industry and RP, plus a possible trade for Navigation(earlier).

@ Ash:
I do believe that Industrialisation and Replaceable parts are very important as we seek to get our Railroad system up and running. I would place these at a higher priority than Democracy at this stage. Democracy has the advantage of faster workers, but so does RP.

Following that, I think that Hospitals are very important. IMHO, Democracy isn't that much better than Republic until you have got an empire with a lot of very large cities, so I'd rather build the factories and hospitals and railroads, then think about Democracy.

I think our current objectives are to grow and consolidate our existing cities. To do that I believe RP and Sanitation and Factories are more important than Democracy. After that, well do we go for Hoover's first or Democracy - again I would lean towards Hoover.

@ SAAM
1. I believe the MSAV places a very high importance on getting Navigation. I personally would be willing to recommend trading for it, I'll analyse the details when I get home
2. You are right - I'll be starting a thread shortly. Some of my thoughts are outlined above

Edit: You will probably both be very interested in the Science Discussion Alpha thread

Just wanted to point out that we have a couple deals about to expire which will cause us to run a deficit unless we either make more deals to replace the lost income or lower the science rate. Thought you might want to participate in the discussions about this.

Thanks Donsig - I have no problem at all trading away MT to Joan and will be supporting it in the polls. Keep that science rate high I say!!!

Honorable Minister Civman2004,
I would like to request that the Science Ministry provide some analysis and estimates on approximately when each tech in the current doctrine will be available.

This will aid my Ministry in discussing, polling, and planning pre-builds for future Wonder construction.

Thanks - MOTH

@Moth I'll get onto it :)
@classical_hero I believe we should trade for Democracy as the AI will research it as a fairly high priority, and that way we can concentrate on maintaining our tech lead, rather than researching a tech that everyone else is already going after. Suggested trading partner: Joan

Here is a good "estimate" for the time to complete each technology. (This is with 512 beakers)

Nationalism: 9 turns
Medicine: 7 turns
Communism: 9 turns
Electricity: 10 turns
Scientific Method: 7 turns
Sanitation: 7 turns
Espionage: 7 turns
The Corporation: 7 turns
Refining: 12 turns
Steel: 10 turns
Atmoic Theory: 14 turns
Combustion: 12 turns
Replaceable Parts: 10 turns
Flight: 13 turns
Amphibious Warfare: 9 turns
Mass Production: 10 turns
Electronics: 13 turns
Motorized Transportation: 10 turns
ADV. Flight: 13 turns
Radio: 14 turns

So at our current rate of research we can expect to end the Industrial age in 168 turns. (So lets hope we don't stay at our current rate of research.)

Thanks for that Strider. I'm back and (mostly) healthy now :)

By that analysis, our current research path is as follows:
Industrialisation pretty soon, those factories will be coming, then...
Medicine - 7 turns
Sanitation - 7 turns (14 cumulative)
Electricity - 10 turns (24)
Scientific Method - 7 turns (31)
Replaceable Parts - 10 turns (41)
We should then be able to get two free techs - two of the most expensive ones, saving us 27 turns of research, which is a lotta money.

By my reckoning, you should be able to start a pre-build for TOE (if people so desire) fairly soon. Perhaps go factory then palace prebuild in a particular city as soon as we have industrialisation?

I posted the information the Culture Ministry asked for inside of Cultures thread, I believe the time I came up with was 36 turns untill we are able to build ToE. So that number should be 32 turns with the 4 turn turnchat last night (correct?)

Anyway, lets hope we do not keep researching at our current rate, otherwise it will take us about 1/3 of the game to get through the industrial age. Any possibility of asking the govonors to build more libraries/universities?
