With the warnings that terrorist attacks are likely this weekend, it occurs to me, that with the narrow choice of targets in the US right now, our armed forces overseas are the most likely to suffer attacks.

To sway the world opinion, they wouldn't want to attack more civilian targets anyway, but military ones. It would look better for them to be seen as striking back against the 'invaders'.

I expect we'll find out soon.

I thought the European and Egyptian police have just foiled a second wave of airplane hijackers? They were planning to hit the West European capitals but all were captured and presently incarcerated. Thought I heard this on the TV news last night or something like that.

I didn't hear about it... Only about the Palestinians arresting BBC broadcasters so they won't show the world the anti-US demonstrations...

Anyway the next target will probably be one of the 40 cities or so in the US that have more then 1 million people (I'm not sure how many cities...). Or maybe they'll wanna show the world that it's all because of Israel and in that case the target will be Tel Aviv/Hifa/Jerusalem/Natanya/any other Israeli city.

I don't think so.I guess hitting targets where there are a lot of civilians "hurts" the western country's more.especially if it is in their home country.
I think more symbolic landmarks will be the target.Maybe the Nato Hq ,United nations ,hoover dam (that would be realy painfull) ,eifel tower ,... that sort of stuff.

I don't think they can destroy hoover dam so easily. It's one of the strongest buildings in the world built above ground level. You'll probably need a small nuke in order to destroy it.

Shortly after the Sept. 11 attacks I was talking with some friends about what would be the most likely targets for the next terrorist attacks. Airplane security is really good right now, at airports, on the planes, and with fighter jets patroling the skies. Also biological and chemical weapons attacks are pretty well gaurded against with all the recent focus. I think the thing that would do the most damage and would be relativaly easy because of the lack of protection would be blowing up a dam. This would disrupt power, the lifeblood of Western Civilization, and also flood everything downstream, distroying other buildings and killing a lot of people. I think Hoover Dam or Grand Coulee Dam would be the most likely targets, because they are symbols of Western engineering and the results of destroying them would be devastating. Now after saying all that I hope I don't give the terrorists any ideas.:(

"Don't worry, the water won't kill you!"
A senior swimming teacher trying to pull me into the swimming pool :D

Anyway, as I said, destroying a dam is extrememly hard

Oh I don't think these terrorists will log on to a game website. They don't have the emotional pre-requisite to play a Civ game. ;)

You dont need to destroy it. A big hole will do the job.

How do you plan to put a big hole in a few meters of inforced concrete? You'll need to crush at least 3 planes on the exact same spot in order to do anything, without being targeted by military aircrafts ir being attacked by the passengers.

even a small hole will eventualy do the job.

Hoover dam is visited by "tourists" every day.A bit of TnT on the body combined with a terrorist can do the job.

I heard they were going to try and knock out the internet by creating endless topics of speculation and overuse until the entire internet becomes a traffic jam. ;)

Sorry...couldn't resist.

But knocking out the internet is a bad idea (for the terriosts). I mean with all the internet users pissed off, plus the fact they no longer have anything to do.....the US could easily double the willing citizens that want to invade Afghanstan. And land with twice the force...ensuring victory.

:)

Lots of dams act as bridges, with roads going across the top. A nice gasoline-tanker truck bomb driven onto the middle should do it. There's tremendous water pressure pushing against it from behind, so even a slight weakening in the structural integrity might be enough to let the water push through, tearing the rest of the dam down with it. The terrorist just drives up, checks his hair in the rearview mirror to make sure he'll look nice for those ten virgin women that his twisted form of Islam tells him are waiting for him in the afterlife, and then he pushes the button. BOOM, everything goes downhill from there, as the American public loses its cool and advocates the use of nuclear weapons...

Don't be so naive.

Airline security isn't much better than it was before, just more of a pain in the butt. The only difference is you're paying more to go fewer miles on fewer airlines with more incompetent security personnel.

Off course if it was more people it could be one of the stadiums in the world cup...But hopefully not.

The problem with destroying a damn is the hole needs to be lower down and not at the top since the top is where the least force is. You could absail down with some TNT...

Although Hoover dams security will probably stand sharp these days ,there are several ways to blow it up.
I'm thinking for ex. a diver diving the inside lake that sets a mine low on the inside of the dam.The pressure would do the rest.
or a small speedboat packed with bombs. There are realy several plausible methods to blow up all sorts of stuff. We can set up conventual security as much as we want ,but the situation will always create new possibilety's.you can't defend yourself against al possible attacks because we don't know what all the possibilety's could be.And the possible target's are numerous.
