Don't think knocking down a dam is so easy. TNT can barely do anything to it. All modern dams (including the hoover dam) are built to stand a pressure much greater then they'll ever face. It's almost impposible to destroy the dam from the side of the water because it's arch shape will observe all the pressure and from there it'll gp the mountains. It's also almost impposible to destroy it from the dry side because the water pressure will observe the pressure. In order to hurt such a structure you'll probably need a few of those "bunker buster" bombs the Americans are using against under ground targets. These bombs have the power to go into the concrete and explode there. Otherwise I don't think you can really hurt such a thing without a nuke. It's like in the movie armagedon where the heroes need to put a bomb inside an astroid in order to destroy it, because a bomb on the surface won't hurt it.

Now that I said that, Bin Laden will probably find a way to proove me wrong by destroying it.

Sorry to ruin that idea for you all, but I went over the Hoover Dam 2 weeks ago while on vacation and security is TIGHT.

Theres roadblocks on both approaches and Lake Mead's south end is closed to boat traffic. No 18 wheelers are allowed over it and they search the cars.

G-Man is correct about needing massive amounts of explosive to even crack that bad-boy.

The Anthrax is probably terrorists, but that would have to have been started weeks ago. So...

I think our military personel here and abroad should realy watch it for awhile. I don't mean the guys IN Afghanistan, but the ones in Germany, Italy, Britain etc.

Although Hoover dams security will probably stand sharp these days ,there are several ways to blow it up.
I'm thinking for ex. a diver diving the inside lake that sets a mine low on the inside of the dam.The pressure would do the rest.
or a small speedboat packed with bombs.

Actually, this is not as easy as it would seem. The diver with a mine will not disturb the dam, due to its construction. The speedboat with bombs would cause only superficial damage. There are ways to destroy a dam, but these are not them. Some dams are much harder to destroy than others, too.

Another obvious idea is a low to medium yield thermonuclear device... that might have a profound effect, LOL....

PS, Most dams have certain protections understated against natural and man-made threats ....

I don't think they will go after targets that are that high profile. If they want to get at the psyche of Americans they will go after ordinary targets that will either cripple the economy or scare the h*** out of the general population. I would give some examples, but I don't want to be responsible for giving the bastards any ideas....

I would hate to be the catalyst for a terrorist to realize some things, like how to transport the metal Sodium thru an airport metal detector. That's why I won't explain how to but some Contac medicine (for colds), open the capsules, empty the contents, shave some sodium into small pieces, put it into the capsules, and swallow them about 5 minutes before going into the detector. The chemistry of the stomach is such that detection is a moot point, so I'd really hate to see a bunch of terrorists try this, and that's why I won't explain how to do it, because they might read this and immediately try it. So keep this a secret from any Terrorists, please.

Not neccesarily. If there's no one else looking at your posts between your 666 and your 667 posts then it's like you posted both at the same time, and therefore never had 666 posts.
Anyway, it is important for the public to find ways that the terrorists might use in order to attack and report this to the authorities. In Israel it happens all the time. For example: El Al is selling products during the flights in order to make some more money. Not long before the september 11th someone decided that a good product to sell would be a swiss pocket knife... But people noticed it, and it was immediatly removed.

My prediction: Something like the serin gas attack Ohm Shin Ri Kyo pulled in the Tokyo subway some years back.

It will be easy, because US metro mass transit has ZERO security - I ride it in Chicago every day. Chicago subway's smell so bad anyway, even a gas with a discernable oder will go unoticed.

Few people will actually be killed, *but* all US cities will shut down mass transit for days, adding another blow to the economy.

Cheaper than blowing a dam - does not give the media more dramatic pictures to raise world sympathy for the US - few actuall casualties, but a very high terror factor.

Another similarity to Ohm Shin Ri Kyo - they tried anthrax in Tokyo, but had very little success making it deliverable. They then resorted to serin, which killed 8 (?) people and made scores others ill. If the recent number of ineffective anthrax events in the US are linked to Al Qaida, they might go the same route.

There are a number of things that you must remember Scorch:

1. Standard practice for hijacks of the past were to fly the plane to an airport eat pizza for a few days and then get boarded by commandos and killed(unless of course you set the bomb off before landing). Passengers and pilots therefore were told never to fight the hijackers, since it was likely they would live and be free in a few days by being docile.

2. The hijackers probably didn't announce that they were flying into buildings or that there was even more than one hijack going on. The passengers wouldn't have any reason to suspect that there was anything but a normal hijacking going on. (Until they got on the cell phones).

3. It is possible that the hijackers used the threat of a larger weapon than boxcutters to keep their captives in line.

4. It is unlikely that the methods used on Sept 11th would be used again successfully since there are plenty of Americans who are itching to kick butt. I would hate to be someone standing up suddenly or running down the aisle to go to the bathroom.


As far as this thread of posts go, I would urge people not to add their ideas to a public forum such as this. As unlikely as it may seem the hijackers are probably dumber than you and NEED your ideas because they can't think for themselves (as anyone who has read a TOm Clancy novel would be able to tell you).

Not to mention the fact that these types of postings could be considered rumour mongering during war time. I don' know about you guys, but I am getting multiple chain letters via e-mail that say not to go out on this day or that day based on a friend of a friend of a friend.

You may be providing fodder for the idiots of the world.

I severly doubt you'd find any terrorists reading anything on this site. Maybe 'spamists', but thats about it.

However, looking back, maybe starting this was in bad taste. I didn't want to discuss targets per se, but politics and symbolism of certain places/things/people.

Its good to joke around and release stress, thats healthy. I think for the sake of 'peace of mind', we should drop this 'wheel of terror' game for now and stop trying to invent ways to slaughter people. Thats not healthy.

On an related note about terrorists:

I was interviewed by the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinal newspaper earlier this week for a background article on the 10th Mountain Division (my old Army unit) and it's role in Somolia. The jist for which was the al-Queda backed Somoli militia, how they fought and what the Special Forces could expect in Afghanistan. It finaly came out today (Saturday), on page 6, for anyone who can get it in their area.

I worked 14 hours today and I'm too exausted to post it right now, but I'd like to share it with my new friends here at the CFC. I'll give it a go on Sunday. Maybe in a new thread in the off-topic.

Anyway, thinking about dark things can put me in a dark mood, so I'm gonna quit trying to predict targets of destruction.

Instead I offer the suggestion that we start a pool to guess how long it will be til OBL is caught! I guess two weeks.

Actually, it is much less expensive, you can fly just as far as before, and security has been expanded significantly.

As far as the Hoover Dam, it is really tough to destroy, or even dent those things. I am here in Phoenix, a few hours from the dam, and my Dad works for the Salt River Project (the local aqueduct system including the Hoover Dam) as an engineer and I have been assured it would take a great deal of force. Hopefully, something like this doesn't happen, but in reality, the floodplains below are relatively void of major settlements. The largest is Yuma, but it would be well evacuated by the time the water reaches it. Same goes for Grand Coulee.

How long will it take to catch/kill OBL? I say either 6 weeks or 6 months. That's because in 6 weeks the winter will start. Fining someone over there is impossible in snow.
