Looking back, I find it disappointing that they would say I'm a republican.

Well, who knows? I might be one, if it weren't for their ******ed foreign policy.

I mainly blame this board, which has given me more and more sympathy for Walter Ulbricht, for this...

I'm not speaking of politics, but statecraft. Politics is just decoration for the masses, to appease their sense of what their state must be. The public is easily confused by political displays and slogans, because people find it difficult to identify things based on their actual value. A capable leader knows how to play politics in an effort to achieve his true aims, which are practical in nature, and not abstract moral concerns. Notice I say capable.

People's MORALITY is rarely affected by politics, because you cannot enact morals. As an example, it doesn't matter if gay marriage is banned in the US (not that it's legal as it is), because there will still be hordes of gays getting married without the benefit of legal sanction. This is an example of why morality should not enter statecraft. Another example: Darfur. Morality demands that we mobilize an army and rescue the Darfurians. Notice how this isn't happening. It also calls into question selectivity. Should we be concerned about waging war against an enemy when some innocents might get killed?

Btw, the same holds true for everyday life as well as politics. I have found that those who appear to work hard, rather than actually accomplish anything, gain much respect in the eyes of others than those who actually get things done. I have also exploited this effect.

Yes you can their called laws, government think tanks or moratoria have a few philosophers in them to discuss ethical concerns, it's called applied ethics(usually reflected in societies as laws or changes in the laws) And what may I ask do you think laws are founded on? Church morals? Please, saying there's no morality in politics is like saying theirs no morality in the human race
