TH2 high seas archipeliago tropics emperor

Turn 0:
We've got four city sites marked, one barb town to raze and two more possible city sites to claim. Let's see how far we can get this set.
Aksum starts a sword so it can grow and we have something to take the barbtown with

Turn 1:
Asoka founds another city. Either he has some spare land on his island or he has another island to the east. He's also willing to trade MC, but we haven't got anything for him.

Turn 2:
Found whipcity (Matara) which starts on a granary.

Turn 3:
Lalibela: Sword > Axe
Addis Abeba: WB > Library

Turn 4:
Aksum: Sword > WB

Turn 5:
We've got CS.
Asoka will trade MC, Mono, Med + 40g for it, so I take it (saves us researching Med and opens up the way for optics later). He's researching Construction now.
Revolt to Bur, as a double revolt will take an extra anarchy turn, so better to take a turn of anarchy right away.
Free hindu spread in Addis Abeba.
Knock myself on the head because I followed the sign for whipcity instead placing it one south to have it pick up the crabs as well.

Turn 6:
Move towards barbtown.

Turn 7:
Start forge in Aksum, it still needs to grow :D
Courthouse in Lalibela as maintainance is getting quite high.
Gondar can do another settler first, we need some more still.

Turn 8:
Attack Barbtown: first sword wins flawless, second dies, but takes archer to 0.4, sacrifice a chariot to give the other two a decent chance, burn the town.

Turn 9:
whip courthouse in lalibela

Turn 10:
Lalibela Courthouse > worker
Asoka is now researching Calendar.

Turn 11:
Christianity is founded somewhere.

Turn 12:
We get a GS. Acad in Aksum gives us 12 beakers, so I do that.

Turn 13:
Found production city.

Turn 14:
Lalibela: Worker > settler

Turn 15:
Asoka is now researching Paper (9t) and has a GS.

Turn 16:
We get Philo and found Taoism in Adulis. Picked Paper for now, though we might want to research something else. Asoka as either settled the GS or build an Acad as his turns for paper went from 9 to 7. We can do paper in 9. We might want to let Asoka research paper however and go Compass to get harbors up and trade for paper later.

I haven't revolted to Pacifism yet, though there will be at least one person who doesn't notice the bold part of this post. :D
Asoka will trade construction and calendar for Philo +40g. Not sure whether to do this or not. We've got a settler ready on the galley south of Aksum and another one in production in Lalibela. Need a couple of workers as well. There are a couple of courthouses in production which will help our economy. I put some signs on the map as well.

Sorry for the lack of images, but there wasn't a lot that was worth taking a screenshot of, and they don't seem to take on this computer.

So, did you revolt to Pacifism?

I had a look at the save and I do have a couple questions. The workers around Adulis are building cottages, wouldn't it be better to chain some farms over so the corn gets irrigated?

The other is about the courthouse in Gondar. I think Gondar's maintenance was less than 5/turn, so a court won't save much. Maybe better to get started on the Nat'l Epic?

About research, I'd switch Paper for Compass, lowering the beaker rate so we get it same turn Asoka gets Paper. Hopefully we could get Paper for Compass plus gold but more likely have to part with Philo as well.

You're right about the irrigation, I had forgotten about it there.

The maintainance in Gondar will be over 5/t quickly as we will settle more cities soon. I'd go Courthouse > NE, but the other way around is also possible.

I would build NE first in Gondar, it is very close to the capital and the 100% GPP production boost is a lot more than a 50% maintenance reduction IMO

Altogether good set, shame we founded Tao, but thats not the end of the world, just makes it a little less reliable for Hindu autospread

WE SHOULD REVOLT TO PACIFISM + BUREAUCRACY IMMEDIATELY, keep expanding until there are no more islands left, build granary-lighthouse-courthouse in new citie,
Addis ababa seems good for Moai + HE, that is always a very good combo
We will be running a relatively high slider all game and if we ever grab a wall street city(doubt it) it will likely be a conquered holy city(Delhi) and in it we will want to run merchants, not townss as merchants give 3 gold, which will be more than the slider would give us if the slider is above 50-60% (which I see no reason for it to drop)

Paper-Edu-Lib sounds good to me, Maybe sink one bulb into education and then either double bulb SM and go Communism or try and push out a GM for upgrades/maybe Sushi if we let this game go that long, I can't figure out which would help more, Sushi or SP

Anyway I digress, after Lib we should grab nat + gunpowder and run over Asoka with Oromos + spies while researching steel and then conquer the rest of the world.

WE SHOULD REVOLT TO PACIFISM + BUREAUCRACY IMMEDIATELY

We're in Bureaucracy allready.
I agree with Addis getting Moai and HE. Wallstreet should indeed go into Delhi.

Good point on WS in Delhi, if we get there. I think that the production city NW of Addis Ababa will complete Moai a lot faster than AA will, though.

Loki, Asoka will have paper in 7 turns, should we really research it at the same time? I'd think Compass plus CS will be enough to trade for it and then we still have Philo up on him.*

If it comes to a vote, I'd like to go the free trade route this time if only to compare the results to the last game.

Edit: If we do go free trade/corporations, I suppose we'll change tactics and keep a more compact empire, aided by the Forbidden Palace and possibly Versailles. It'll be harder to go for domination without state property, I think.

*Forgot we already traded CS to him.

Asoka researching paper... I don't think there is any nearby trade bait that is too attractive, we may have to double up, however maybe drama or music? I forget beaker costs, someone check to see if it would be suitable to trade Asoka for paper

FWIW, there was an GA born in my turnset, so the GA from music is likely gone. Not too sure what the best course of action would be now.

At least wouldn't trade Philo with Asoka, maybe we shouldn't tempt him into the liberalism path, while we're not further down that path ourselves yet. I think AIs are less tempted to research Philo themselves if the religion has gone already.
Maybe machinery is a good call, AIs love that and is on the way to optics. Compass is nice by itself but doesn't represent enough trade value for Paper. To get harbours is nice, but not as strong as it was with the Cothons in the last game with Hannibal.

I like machinery too.

It's been 20 hours since Sengir uploaded and no got it. I'm not cracking the whip on Arlborn, just saying if he doesn't show up he may be having PC trouble or had another big weekend. A swap would put Loki in, I believe.

Just one thing, are we interested in pursuing that library quest we got?

I don't know what the benefits are, but we have the GL and for now 3 libraries, but 4 more can be built/whipped fairly quickly I suppose (we are creative after all so cheaper libraries) so it could be worth it. It should be built before Renaissance and I never know which tech brings you to which era, but maybe it means before Eductaion(?).

Must have missed that. I think it is pretty doable (just whip a couple more and be done with it.) As for the gains:
Code:
Quest5:
	Classic Literature
	Prereq: WRITING
Obsolete: NATIONALISM or PRINTING_PRESS or EDUCATION or GUNPOWDER or ASTRONOMY
	Active/Weight: 20/500
		Aim:
Build default number of players for this world size libraries (7 for standard)
		Result:
1.+2 research in one (triggering) city's library
2.get one ancient era tech
3.IF you control the Great Library wonder gain +1 scientist specialist for this wonder
So a couple of beakers, a tech and a scientist (provided we have ancient era techs left)

So a couple of beakers, a tech and a scientist (provided we have ancient era techs left)
That would be a couple of beakers, a tech OR a scientist, right? The extra scientist for the GL will be nice. And then let's get the NE in Aksum :mischief:;).

Nope, all of them. The only thing I'm not sure about is the amount of beakers. If I'm reading this (and the xml right). We get exactly 2 beakers in the last library build, but I'm not completely sure.

Usually you only get the first 2, but as with most (each?) quest, there is an additional bonus tight to a more difficult target. Except that getting the Great Lib wasn't exactly a problem in this case :D. Scientist obsolotes with SM just like the rest of Glib though (I think).

Really? Well, even better then! :) Anyway, I think we agree it's not much sweat to get 4 more libraries which are not thrown away hammers/heads in any case, so let's get them then.

Is Calendar still ancient era? Can't seem to find tech/era relation on this site, but I may be overlooking it.

Obsolete: NATIONALISM or PRINTING_PRESS or EDUCATION or GUNPOWDER or ASTRONOMY

These are the techs we cannot research before finishing the quest.

Yeah, but I was not referring to Calendar as a tech obsoleting the quest but if we could pick it up for free as ancient tech. I guess it's not, since Alpha brings you to Classical era already, methinks.

Ah, don't know about that.
