TH3 archipelago high seas tropics immortal

Alright first off this looks winnable.

Went basically with my highlighted plan, however the Hammy invasion prep was sacrificed for settlers/infrastructure.

So I switched some builds, whipped a lot, teched guilds and chemistry

traded lib

Unfortunately they both self researched astronomy fast so I had to get a jump on settling, I settled 2 good spots in my set, three settlers are in production and should be whipped ASAP, we need more workers, those are queued, whip them too.

Met Justy and Qin Shi Huang or w/e
sell edu to QSH

stopped here:

Okay so Loki has a plan on how to win this game
DIPLO
we can abuse favorite civics on QSH + Hammy + Joao and probably get enough votes to win UN, justy is #1 in pop so we would have to build it, but that is fine, if we beeline MM and build in our capital

Glorious capital

Resources, stone needs to be renegotiated blah blah blah, too much thought for poor me

Demographics:

Summary:
Keep settling, we need more workers, if you want something built whip it.

In terms of importance in cities
build culture, granary, trading post, harbor, after that thing really hard if you need another building, otherwise the extra pop lets us work 2f 3c coast which is okay, but also gets us votes for later. just build wealth

I would vote go steel - Mass Media beeline

There are 2 AI's left to meet, lets get cracking.

Side note: Joao circumnavigated in 1100 AD well before my set so we never had a chance.

I'm happy to go for a diplo win, but I must be missing something about the tech path. Why steel?

Another question: How do I prevent getting a DoW? Should I give in to AI demands? Any demands, other than joining wars, that I should not give into? How much military do we need? I noticed a couple decent barb cities, so I'll try and get enough zerks to take those at least.

How about our economic civic? SP or FM? I don't remember ever trading for either one.

I'm thinking the Maoi Statues can go in the capital, and probably should've a long time ago. They work well in a Bureau cap. Should I bother trying to get the Nat'l Epic up? That one should've gone in the gold + 2 fish city IMO, about a thousand years ago. 2 fish will support something like 5 specs.

Hi guys, I'm back...

I agree with Loki that things look a lot brighter now and reading quickly I think he must have played a strong set as usual.

Thanks to Whosit's ingenious trading it's now totally beside the point but I'll disagree with Loki until the end of time about Odense's placement as on that southern tip imo the land would have been as unreachable as it is from Birka with 2 ocean tiles in the middle :p But I propose we let the issue rest :)

I'll look at the save more closely this evening.

Yeah I'll just drop it nocho, and to Dave

Steel trades very well, we can use it for pre reqs to mass media, we should probably run SP given our vast number of cities.

We should spam a few frigates etc. but, I am not worried about DOW, give in to any demand for anything other than a stop trade or a DOW on someone else and we should be fine, we should run Bureaucracy and HR till end of time to let fav civics build, keep open borders with Joao, QSH, and Hammy, keep resource deals going, and don't piss em off, stay in free religion to avoid being asked for conversions.

to get communism: sci method is on MM path, so we will have all pre reqs, just trade for communism whenever.

Agressively trade at this point, or else we will fall behind.

Get nat epic up yes, good idea, we should try to get an engineer (run one and pray)
And moaia in capital is fine, add oxford there too if we ever get unis up.

Thanks for answering those questions, Loki. I got hesitant because not so long ago you were talking about whacking Babylon and all that got dropped. What you have there sounds good. However, it is a shame that we've had to deviate from the formula.

Nocho, I'm up in SAM 1 so if you want to have a go I'd be pleased and grateful to swap. Otherwise this one will have to keep as I can't give adequate attention to two today.

Unintentional alliteration can get out of hand sometimes.

Would whack babylon, but they be tight with joao and Just is giant so warmongering isn't as viable. Babylon conquering may be viable if we spam cannons and berserkers maybe... but I just don't know if it would be beneficial diplo wise.

Yeah, we should probably let sleeping Babylonians lie; though it is tempting because they seem small and ripe, conquering them will really hurt any hopes of a diplomatic win (and a conquest/domination win does not seem likely at this point). So, we make friends and aggressively expand. After all, getting a large number of populous cities gives us more weight in a diplomatic vote.

Can't look at the save now, so I'm not sure who the largest is (did you say Justinian, Loki?). However, if we can find any way to get people to hate the biggest guy, we should go for it. The only way I can think of is to bribe non-friendly civs into war with them, but we would need a tech lead for that and it should probably wait until we're close to the U.N., anyway. We don't have a religion to spam, so that's not an option. Though, in all likelihood, we'll probably just have to do our best to be best liked.

Edit: I second the notion to try for a Great Engineer. I take it we sit on him until we can build the United Nations?

I couldn't take it today, but maybe tomorrow night (36 hrs from now). But anyway, wouldn't it be Sengir's turn? He didn't drop out of this, did he?? He's been a bit absent from this thread lately, or so it seems. I've seen him around in other ones though, saying RL was playing hard ball on him... So Sengir, if you're around can you take this? Then I go after you and Dave.

Is it my turn? Didn't know that, thought Dave would be up after swap with Loki... Will take it then. Will look through the thread and post plans beforehand. Should be able to get it out today.

Roster:
nocho - On deck??
Whosit
Dave - On deck??
Loki - Just played
Sengir - Up

Plans for next turn (either my own or Dave's):
Adjust espionage to get all the power ratings in view (won't take much). Meet the other civs.

Settle more cities, improve and grow the others for the pop count. Build some units for happies, power rating (ours isn't that bad if you figure we have mostly warriors for defense) and barbtowns. Build NE (shouldn't this go into the Ice-fishtown? it will run way more specialists and has food to spare to whip it) and Maoi.

Tech path should be Steel (tradebait), trade for PP > SM > Physics > Electricity > Radio > MM (aka MM beeline). If we are lucky we might be able to trade for SM as well.

Keep our friends happy.

Should be doable.

For Great Justice!

Turn 296:
Do a round through the cities, but Loki left the empire in a good state so I have little to do. Check the trades, but there's nothing to be had.
Adjust espionage to see power ratings (and perhaps some research as well).

Hit enter

Turn 297:
Joao poached a fish town

Turn 298:
Meet everybodies favorite nutcase:
Monty
He's backwards and annoyed. (and worst enemy of Hammi)
Nidaros > Maoi

Turn 299:
Tonsberg Forge > NE
Slave revolt in Roskilde (I pay 13g)

Turn 300:
We are second largest after Just.

Monty wants gold. I decided I want our gold as well. (He was in WHEOOHRN when we met him and is after Hammi probably, no need to be scared of him anyway).

Turn 301:
Hammi wants to cancel the crab vs wine deal. I trade him sugar instead (I know it's our only one, but keeping trades is more important atm).

Turn 302:
zzz
Turn 303:
We meet vassalized Asoka who is on par with the other civs and his master Genghis Khan. (Worst enemy of Hammi now, I guess he took Monty's place). He's a bit further behind.
OB with Asoka

Turn 304
zzz

Turn 305:
Hammi comes asking for Chem.... Damn that's crappy. We can take the hit now, but I'm not sure whether we can tak it in the long run. In the end I decide to give it to him and trade it away further for some other techs as well.

Monty wants us to cancel deals with Hammi. Uhm no, not right after I gifted him chem.
GK demands worldmap. Ok
Sell Phil for 250g + WM to Just
Trade Chem with Qin for PP

Found two cities, both are not in need of a border pop so start a granary right away

We can also see Joao's research now and see that he is 4 turns from finishing Chem, which coincides with us finishing Steel. So let's hope we can trade Steel for SM with him, as no one else has SM atm.

Turn 306:
Slave revolt in Sigtuna, I pay 13g
Now Just and Hammi have SM as well. Just is researching Physics in 14t

Turn 307:
Khan wants OB, I decline
We enter the industrial era as we finish steel. Pick SM for now.
Nidaros finishes Moai > Bank

There's a berserker in a galley near Ribe, and a Galleon in pursuit to take him over (and some axes from Ribe itself) for barbtowns.
There's a WB en route to one of the new cities and Roskilde is building another one.

Tonsberg is growing mainly to get enough pop to whip the NE. It won't finish by itself on hammers alone.

Nidaros should probably spit out a couple of WB's after the bank because none of the other towns have any production to speak of to help the new cities out in this regard.

There's a settler and a worker in a galleon SW of Lindholm to settle the island there. Make sure the city picks up the clams.

Trades:
We can trade steel to:
Joao for SM
Just for SM, WM + 50 g
Hammi for SM, WM + 110g

Qin has only economics for us, which we probably won't need.
I'm also of the opinion that we should gift Asoka Philo so that he can switch to free religion (his favorite civic), for some diplo points.

We won't be able to beat Just to Physics, unless we get a GS, which would mean we could bulb it and steal the Physics GS from under his nose.

Major weed of the set: I forgot to cancel the stone trade with Just to speed up Moai.

(will attach save shortly. No images as my connection is spotty and I'm allready hoping that the save will come through eventually.)

One last thing: Asoka is a colony of Khan, not vassalized.

Would have given Monty the gold for easy diplo otherwise sounds good, suck up to anyone but Just, isolate him if at all possible.

Monty's hands are full, we refused demand, may be coming after us...
Justo seems happy with people, not good we need to get some friction between him and the world.

Montys hand were full the moment we met him, so he is probably after Hammi (his worst enemy). Also: he doesn't have astro yet, so I don't exactly fear him coming after us (besides, we might be able to bribe some people in a war against him for easy diplo points).

I agree with Just being a problem, he is on good terms with everyone IIRC.

I have to take the skip. If I tried for more swaps I'd end up swapping with myself. Soonest I can play is in about 60 hours. Nocho, you're up.

Who has ideas how to mess up Justinian? Espionage?

Ok, I think I can get to it sooner than within 60 hours... Will try and play and report within 30 hours or so.

Haven't looked at the save yet, will do so this evening and comment on it. Any suggestions will be appreciated of course.
