((Thought I'd share my experience with you guys. :D I'm loving the new features in this game, and decided that my first game would be an Earth map as America. (YEA! AMERICA #1) Anywho, its 1120AD and although my game started rough I managed to wrest control of my region from the dominate power, India. I am now the most powerful nation in Asia! :) So here it goes, my report/story of America.))

1120 AD
-----------

Asia, a place of great riches and fierce competition for those riches. The southeastern region, which was affectionatly named Thailand by It's people, was largely controlled by various City-States and Confederacies of City-States in the early years of civilization. The largest and most powerful of these states were Venice, Washington, New York, and Delhi. Each accomplished great feats of military and economic power, such as Delhi's construction of the Great Wall and Washington's construction of the Silver Road which streched throughout the entire region and connected all of the City-States together.

Many smaller states also resided in this land and they had their share of triumphs aswell, such as Belgrade which would become known as the vanguard of Thailand for its countless victories against the Manchu and Turkish barbarians from the north and Rio De Janeiro, whose people explored and mapped the entire Sea of China and discovered the breath taking natural wonder known as Mt. Fuji.

In the early years the people of Thailand only took up arms to fight the Manchu and Turks of the north, even going so far as to cooperate against them. The greatest of these battles was fought within the borders of Belgrade, at the Battle of Duke Earl's Ear. Belgrade's forces were off to the west, looting and dismantling a Manchu settlement on their western border when the Turks arrived. Uncontested the Turks pillaged and raped the countryside, pushing the Belgrade defenders into their city gates and laying siege to the city itself.

For five long years the people of Belgrade held the line until their forces could return to save the city. When they arrived they found their homes burned and their country picked clean, and a government in exile within It's own city gates. The Belgrade warriors, lead by the Duke of Belgrade himself, unleashed a ferocity on the invaders unlike any other seen in history and although outnumbered they fought to the very last man and inflicted so many causalties that they forced the Turks to retreat from the country. They did not make it far however, as long awaited reinforcements from Washington arrived to finish what the Belgrade warriors started.

It was after said battle that the City-States began to form closer ties to each other, realising the dangers of the world around them. Washington and New York formed the American Confederacy, inviting all states to join. The other states responded by forming their own confederacies, such as the Delhi lead Indian Confederacy to the west. Many would retain their independence, such as Belgrade and Rio De Janeiro, but they gave their blessings to the two confederacies which pledged to protect Thailand from any invader foolish enough to step foot there.

Soon after, the invasions stopped. The American Confederacy almost unilaterally whiped out the Manchu barbarians and forced the Turks north. The Turks would never again step foot in Thailand, instead settling the land to the north and founding a legitiment state, which America regocnized and began dealing with (much to the dismay of Belgrade and Rio De Janeiro.) Soon after a peace returned to the region, war being replaced by fierce economic competition.

The American Confederacy expanded unopposed to the South, founding the states of Philidelphia, Boston, and Atlanta. Although recognized as soverign City-States, Washington began exercising an alarming amount of control over the three new states aswell as It's sister state, New York. To the East, the Indian Confederacy settled new lands west, allowing them more freedoms and only requiring mutual protection during a time of war.

With time, America's neighbors grew weary of It's strength. A strength it was eager to use, and only needed an excuse to do so. It would get this excuse when a border dispute between Venice and Capetown would lead to Venice declaring war and requesting the American Confederacy to assist it in destroy Capetown. Washington responded by annexing Venice and declaring Capetown a protectorate of the American Confederacy. Almost overnight the entire region turned against the American Confederacy, canceling trade agreements and open border agreements.

However, the Americans at this point were self-sufficent and shared borders with all of It's neighbors. It also had the largest standing army in Asia, and the only truly professional one. While Delhi had built great wonders, America had trained soldiers and constructed powerful war machines. While Belgrade's forces were diminished by constant barbarian invasions, America's forces only grew stronger and their military doctrine more sophisticated. And so the other states had no choice but to tolerate the power play by America, and in time the outrage would fade and trade continued and one hundred years of peace would follow.

During this time of peace America continued to train for war, but it also purchased new lands and encouraged It's people to pursue economic pursuits. Soon a merchant class emerged, demanding trade routes be reopened with the City-States and new ones be forged with far off lands. At first the government ignored them, but soon they become too powerful. When America demanded open borders and free trade with Rio De Janeiro, the city states refused and America declared war. Belgrade, Vanguard of Thailand in name only in this age, came to the defense of Rio De Janeiro and America was forced to fight a two front war.

And fight a two front war they did. Within two years, regiments from New York were marching the streets of Rio De Janeiro. Belgrade also gave only a token defence, which was easily swept aside by General Washington's personally lead Infantry Regiment, the 10th Mountain. Puppet governments were put in place and the two proud states were defacto controlled by Washington. Peace would not last long, however, America would not allow It's enemies time to prepare against her. With General Washington's blessing, the armies of New York and Washington marched to the Indian border.

Legend has it that Ghandi, figurehead of the Indian Confederacy, visited the soon to be battlefield on the outskirts of Venice where he met with General Washington. When his desires for peace were denied, he posted outside the encampment and refused to eat and only drank water. There he sat with his aides for two long weeks until his body gave out and he starved to death. Respectfully, the General had his body cremated in the traditional Indian customs and sent his ashes to his family in Delhi where his son waited in command of Delhi's defensive forces.

The Indian Army, like all others before it, would be swept aside by the Americans. With General Washington approaching Bombay, the City-State sued for peace, dissolving the Confederacy. The former Indian Confederacy members would be organized into a autonomous governing body, independent in name only and a mere puppet state to Washington.

It is here where the story picks up, with the American Confederacy the dominate military and economic power of Thailand.

As Captain Maddox's ship set sail for the horizon he couldn't help but feel disappointed. The glorious campaign he was promised against the City of Mumbai had been canceled at the last minute after all. This war had been for the most part a ground war, no place for an old sailor like himself but he had jumped on the opportunity to lead an amphibious landing to the south of Mumbai eager to do his part. It was after all the duty of every Washington man to serve his City and his Confederacy, and any lucky to return home were greeted with a Hero's welcome and a suitable title that would support them for the rest of their lives.

That was how Lieutenant Maddox had become Captain Maddox, his service in the Sea of Thailand against the Sapporo barbarians was the stuff of legends. It was he that had explored and mapped out Mt. Fuji and the surronding area for future settlement aswell. He was a celebrated figure, and his men both feared and respected him. Now here he was, sailing back to friendly waters once more.

"Sir, the wind is dying down and we're losing speed." Captain Maddox glared at the man interrupting his train of thought, it was Lieutenant Chase, his executive officer. Chase was a New Yorker and he spoke with a heavy accent, something Maddox was not familiar with, he had always served with Washington officers, and this new corps of officers from the lesser City-States was something he disapproved of. None the less Maddox still kept his eyes fixed on the man and issued him his orders, "have the men extend the oars, the sooner we get to port the sooner these men can get the comfort of drink and women."

Lieutenant Chase snapped to attention and saluted, Captain Maddox simply nodded and motioned for him to go away. Maddox stepped up to the Ship's bow, a smile creeping onto his face as he watched the other Ship's sailing in a loose diamond formation. The fleet was the largest he had commanded since the Sapporo campaign, but it was still quite small only consisting of thirty small transportation vessels with three larger flag ships such as his for escort. Both types had a set of sails and an oaring bay, which was being used a lot lately much to the dismay of the men.

Captain Maddox turned and yelled toward the lookout, stationed nearby on one of the Ship's guns. The lookout responded by loading a small casing down the metal shaft, cranking it up to a 90 degree angle, and pulling a trigger at the bottom of the shaft. The casing fired into the air and bursted into a brillant red color. Captain Maddox watched as one by one, the fleet extended their oars and began rowing, bringing the ships back up to speed. Soon after the sound of cadence being called from the ships echoed through the empty skies and Captain Maddox shook his head, "god damn Soldiers always getting rowdy, we'd better get them to a port before they tear these ships apart."

Major Sherman's Verdict

By order of the Commanding Officer of 4th Infantry Regiment, Major Sherman, the citizens of Pataliputra are to be treated as enemy combatants. Their right to land, wealth, and freedom are to be disputed at every opportunity and their city is now property of the American Confederacy. Administration of the city has been transfered to the 4th Infantry Regiment, and law and order will be established in this city even if has to be whiped from the face of the Earth.

To address the issues of Soldiers not recieving pay, a period of looting will be declared from 12 September to 23 September. During this period of time Soldiers of the 4th Infantry Regiment will not be subject to the laws of Pataliputra or the laws of war set by General Washington. After this period, said laws will once again apply and until that time I will leave it to the officers to keep order and decree their own laws as long as they are within reason. Let this be a lesson for any whom take up arms against our great city.

Major Leopold S. Sherman, Washington Army.
