Actually, wrong on both counts. Your sentence needs the word 'serious' in it as a qualifier.

Oh, and as an FYI the first female candidate for president was Victoria Woodhull in 1872. The first black to run was also a female: Lenora Fulani in 1988.

While I can appricate a good facts smack down, this isn't one of them. Ms Woodhull (born not far from where I once called home) didn't make it on any ballot, and (unless I'm recalling one of my 'day we devote to women in history' history classes wrong) wasn't even old enough to run in 1872.

I believe what Sims was refering to was politicians who stood a chance, or I have to assume so as ShannonCT's original statement had no reflection on the current election.

I was, so I didn't count Jesse Jackson; I changed my post to say "serious [candidates]." I didn't know about Woodhull, but I assumed women have ran on third party tickets before.
