The 10,000 year reign of Atotoztli

3137 – Weaving

Spoiler :

The technology of threading fleece into threads was finished. It had taken the Romans something like, you know...like.....20+ cycles of the snail to do, Aztec had managed to do it in 6.

Sailing, the Romans had...like....like....you knah......24 Cycles, we would take only 4. Truly Aztec is the chosen race.

With the completion of Jewellery,

Spoiler :

a Town hall, was contracted to be next to be produced.

Spoiler :

With this building, you may employ 2 free specialists, who don't eat our food, or have to work a tile.

3089 BC Jungle Limits

The 1st Explorers squad, Alpha company of Tenochitlan, had finally reached the jungle limits, this marks the halfway mark of the Continent.

Spoiler :

They would now begin to traverse along the jungle limits, so as to gauge the width and breadth of our Continent. Of course finding other opponents is always a possibility.

3049 BC

The ability to conduct trade upon our river systems is now complete.

Spoiler :

Atotoztli, takes council from her advisers.

“Iron working, we need to build effective units to drive out the Barbarian. Let us research the secrets of smelting and forming this metal.” spoke the military adviser. Yes, but we have no enemies to kill as yet.

“Currency, we need to fund a coin of the realm.” the Economics adviser pleaded. Gold, bah, we have plenty, and can always reduce the science slider, its not like we're being that seriously challenged as it is.

“Mathematics, we must learn the secret of Trigonometry, how to shoot an arrow up so it will fall where we want” muttered the domestic adviser from his reports.

Hmm, Mathematics, Mused Atotoztli, it would seem to satisfy all 3 of you again. With no one urgent need, it would seem the best fitting one. With it our archers would be further increased in strength, our scientists, would be able to preform more calculations, our economics boosted.

“Yes”, exclaimed Atotoztli, it shall be Mathematics.

Barbarians continued to attack, some losses were suffered, troops were manoeuvred to compensate.

3025 National Courier system

With the completion of the Town Hall, Tenochitlan began construction of a National Courier System.

Spoiler :

21 cycles for completion, 21 for Mathematics. The National Courier System, would give;
10% great people birth rates.
10% Great General birth rates.
-25% Anarchy lengths
10% Defence in all cities.

A source of Pearls had been discovered outside of the city of 1st Squad. A work boat and Galley would need to be produced to harvest and guard this resource. A stone workers hut had been completed with the harvesting of the Forest by the city, and a Granary was also able to be substantially rushed with the excess materials supplied.

2897 BC

What a year of great fortunes and disaster. The 1st Explorers Squad, had discovered the existence of another civilisation. That of the City state of Korea.

Spoiler :

Then a of disaster occurred, while the domestic adviser was taking a nap, missed the entry of a Barbarian archer into the home lands, who proceeded to destroy 2 worker units that were assigned to build a farm adjacent to the barbarians. The loss of ½ of our workforce, is a complete and unmitigated disaster.

2857 Mathematics and Disaster

Another year of success and disaster;

1. The secrets of Mathematics were discovered in that year.
2. One Cycle previously, the Heroic 1st Archers squad, defending at 98.9%, was lost to barbarian Javelineers. Such is the Heroic form of our troops, that with this loss, they fought on.

Spoiler :

A heavy pall fell over the city of Tenochitlan, for if they could fall, couldn't any off our defending units fall.??

Thinking of the previous discussion on requirements, Atotoztli decided on researching Iron Working. The extra production from the mines would be most welcome.

2841 BC How Bazaar

The National courier system is now completed, our citizens may now rest easier knowing that we have their defence at our hearts.

A Bazaar was now commissioned

Spoiler :

to provide a means for trade, commerce generation and an exchange of ideals that may result in a science boost.

2753 BC The Prophet of the one true god

Oh Joy of Joys. The Great Prophet, Sojourner Truth, has arrived, Paving the way for the one true god to be revealed to us all.

Atotoztli, greatly enraptured by this holiest of holy man, installed him in her palace. Great merit was placed upon the council of Sojourner Truth, for he uttered truths as to the one true gods fate.

“Great strides you have made in your preparing the way, for a house has been constructed of the finest marble, fit for a gods abode. Mighty armed forces you are building, but mightier yet must be built, for the one true god, is not a god of Weaklings. Fear and power, strength and surety of blows, this is what the one true god is looking for.

For as the one true god, walks this earth, it shall shake and rattle from its passing. Know that you follow the correct path to receive the benediction of the one true god. For with Might of arms, will come the might of the one true gods Magnificence.”

Truly awed was Atotoztli, for her drive, her ambition for the people, the very existence of the Aztec Tribes, was to be rewarded with the one true gods Benediction.

2689 BC Iron Working

A new method of Metal smelting was now been completed. Harder and able to be honed to a blade that was sharper then bronze. The new metal, was more resilient, it wasn't as easily blunted.

Spoiler :

Weapons could be refined, with a lighter, but a stronger and sharper blade. Surely this would be enough for the one true gods benediction.

The Barbarians were now coming into the city of light, harder and faster. The Romans had opened up lines of communication, they sued for peace, but didn't offer any terms that could sway Atotoztli's heart.

Warfare had come to the Aztec people, and they had risen as Atotoztli's heart had expected. Within her inner circle of advisers, the Military adviser was reigning supreme. Seeing a need for the proper training of troops, a Meeting hall had been constructed in Tenochitlan.

Spoiler :

This allowed for the gathering of the troops, and the discussion of tactics for newly commissioned squads. Though not what the Military had ideally wanted, it was a beginning, and all was new for the armed forces of Aztec.

2590 Butchers,Tanners and Candlestick makers

The cities of Tenochitlan and 1st Squad, doubly named now for 2 units lost in the fight for this world. Were both Crying out for food. Houses on organised slaughter of the domesticated animals, the refined production of meats, hides, bones and sinew was needed. Tools to light the darkness, and shine as a beacon into the darkness of the surrounding lands.

From these buildings the products of industry and retail consumption flowed.

Fine cuts of meat, for the peoples consumption and other by products for use in other industries, poured from these building. New industries were formed, and jobs commissioned, these were;

Spoiler :

Butcher

Candelstick maker

Tanner

Meats of the finest cuts, clearly superior to what had previously been on offer from the wild butchering of beasts, was now on offer. The flow of Sinew, horn and bones for weapons making was increased, with the higher quality on offer.

Hides, for the production of leathers, covers and fine decorations, of a quality and nature not seen before, flowed into the populace and its marketplaces.

Clearly, the benefits of Civilization (IV) was clear. Superior to any other form beforehand, and of a quality and maturity greater then of the 5th order.

2569 Military Training

The armed forces of Aztec, reigned supreme.

Spoiler :

Military Training

Training of the troops, within the relatively safe confines of the cities, before they were exposed to the wild Barbarians. Losses were reduced, and victories obtained were increased. Confidence in the armed forces of Aztec soared. Troops of all criteria, benefited from this training;

Reconnaissance troops received 3 points of training.
Melee troops received 3 points.
Mounted units, upon the domesticated horses, 2 points.
Siege units, drilled for 1 point of experience.

This new training facility was called a Barracks. Troops could not only be separated from the population, they could be properly disciplined and housed to create the Esprit de corps.

New formed troops, using the Iron working technology, were commissioned, they were called Jaguars. They were so named for their speed of attack through the wooded lands. Sleek and swift, razor sharp blades, deadly to the enemy as a Jaguars claws, for which they were named. Some within the Community, Poo Pooed the need for Jaguars.

Child like units, playing at being a unit of strength. True they did forgo, hardness of blows by 1 point, for the speed required to traverse the wooded and jungle lands. 6 points out of 7 for the Base sword unit, but is not speed of attack, a greater boon to the armed forces. Strike the enemy, when they least expected it, would result in greater victories, than slowly advancing giving the enemy time to prepare. Had not this been shown by the wild animals that roamed the wilds. Athletics would only further enhance these units, strength of arms, speed of legs, and sharpness of brain.

2387 BC Athletics

Spoiler :

Athletics

The one TRUE God had been found. The Aztec people, had been properly prepared for the coming of the one true god.

For with the research of Athletics, the Aztec peoples had proven themselves to be worthy of Gods benediction.

Spoiler :

To herald the arrival of Zeus, a revelation had been given to a citizen of the city of 1st Squad. Atotoztli's inner circle of advisers were stunned, did not a god require a house of Marble to reside in??

NO For a god, needs no house, but a loyal and pious population to worship and spread the knowledge of God. Missionaries poured out from the city, Carrying the word of the God.

Sojourner Truth, that prophet of god, had journeyed to the city of 1st Squad, to set up an organised form of worship.

Upon arrival at the city of 1st Squad, Sojourner Truth, suddenly arose into a column of light, and in his place, the statue of Zeus had been formed. Emanating from this building was a benediction of Zeus, and immediately became a shrine to the God Zeus. Preachers of this new form of religion and the centralised organisation of the religion centred upon this building.

With the revelation of the new form of worship, the Adoption of Hellenism was immediately undertaken. Temples would be constructed in all cities containing the new religion. Indoctrination of the masses, in this new religion would be undertaken.

The jails of the city of Tenochitlan had been scoured, vagabonds had been taken from the streets, a new city was to be settled, and those who chose not to participate in the shining city of Tenochitlan, would be sent to form a new city, as dictated by the Holy Dot Map.

Spoiler :

The City of number 2, mapped upon the Holy Dot Map, was to be settled. Troops where gathered;
2 Squads of Archers were to be sent from the Hills of Tenochitlan.
1 Squad of Axes, for the defence of the new lands.
2 Chain gangs of workers, to improve and develop the lands.
1 Band of Dissidents and Malcontent's of Tenochitlan, was impressed, for settlement of this new city

Science was dropped to 50%, to finance the settlement of new cities, recruitment of new troops, and the pressing of new Chain gangs, to develop the cities.

For the Holy 22 city Dot Map, had now been revised.

Some notes upon this document;

1. No existing cities of foreign lands are scheduled to be kept, ALL Must be destroyed, for they offend the Holy 22 city Dot map.

Spoiler :

2. The Eastern seaboard, had yet to be fully surveyed, and as a result, the dot map was open to amendment, to meet its sacred duty. The settlement of cities upon rivers.
3. The capital was scheduled to be moved twice, to satisfy the needs of Empire.
4. This would form the core of the Aztec Empire. Subjugation of these lands was our holy duty.
5. The jungle band, would form a border to our lands, the tundra and ice, would be settled as the opportunities arose.
6. No vassals would be allowed, permitted or even entertained.
7. Wars in the Southern continent, would only be supported via proxy.
8. The Southern continent, would be consumed, only once the Northern section was an Aztec powerhouse of industries and wealth.
9. No foreign excursions would be entertained, allowed or permitted. Obsolete and dissident troops would be sent off as an expeditionary force, to be added as auxiliaries to the native forces there.
10. Naval dominance would be sought, maintained and exploited.

For a great empire to arise, religion must be at the heart of it all. A tripod of Governmental stability, spiritual enlightenment and commercial development. Of this thing are great empires made.

All would be based upon that most holy of documents, the 3 ring circus dot map. (Willem Van Orange??)

Spoiler :
[Chant] ALL PRAISE THE DOT MAP, FOR THE DOT MAP IS SUPREME, CITIES ON RIVERS WITH RESOURCES ARE MIGHTY, FOR NO OVERLAP OF THE DOT MAP MAYBE ALLOWED. NO CITY IS ASSURED OF BEING KEPT, LEAST IT BE A CAPITAL, UPON OR 3 TILES FROM THE COAST. [/Chant]

Very nice update. Also,

Clearly, the benefits of Civilization (IV) was clear. Superior to any other form beforehand, and of a quality and maturity greater then a 5th.

I'll give it a rest for a couple of day's.

I've got to go through the previous 7 segments, and properly list the buildings for the Civopedia, and not with a mouse over as I have. I only realised, 1/2 way through this write up.

Plus who wants to see constant postings of the same city, not me.

Actually I wont', don't want every thing done at 22 Cycles to Metal casting, looks ridiculous, and not going to replay as could alter outcomes.

Next instalment after I do my grocery shopping..

2198 – Alphabet

Verbal communication was fine for a rude group of hovels, but for a mighty empire to flourish and grow, a more effective form of communication was required. Smoke signals, were fine for long distances, but they were restricted to line of sight, the vagaries of the winds, and could be seen by all.

No, a more secure form, one that the individual could only see, comprehend, and wouldn't change with the retelling. A visual form, but light, secure and intimate. Pondering upon this and looking at the cave paintings of the ancients, it suddenly came to Atotoztli's mind. Picture forms, but so many pictures would be needed, surely a more efficient form could be made. One that wouldn't change with the peoples view.

A picture form of a word, put onto bark, that would convey not only the message, but the strength and meaning behind that message. Quick to complete, easily understood. She instructed her scribes to begin the process of devising a written system of communication. An alphabet would have to be constructed.

Spoiler :

Onwards the Settling group for city site no 3 pushed. Many went willingly, buoyed by the prospect of begin an new life for their families. Some weren't so willing and happy to go, mostly these were the Dissidents and malcontent's, who found it more preferable to sit around and complain, then actually to have to get up and do something. Now they were out here in the wilds, guarded by the soldiery, for protection and enforcement. Now did all the stories of Giants, Trolls and assorted monsters come out. The further they went, the wilder the stories got. Always they were guided by the HOLY CITY DOT MAP.

Spoiler :

At last, the settling group had arrived at the holy city dot map site. Grassland laid in awaiting for development, a pristine river flowed through the lands. Copper had been prospected by the 1st Explorers Group of Tenochitlan, along with Sheep, Marble and wild Wheat for harvesting. A corpse of trees, was located in the prospective site for the city. Instructions were given to remove this forest, but no use could be made of the timber received, all was needed for the fires of the camp, and building of tools.

Spoiler :

With this decision, and the arrival of the flanking armed forces, who had guarded this group on its long journey, the city of Tlatelolco was founded.

With the settlement of the city of Tlatelolco, a road was commenced to the Marble resource to the West of the city. Sentries were posted on the boundaries of the city, troops were installed to safe guard the peoples. Wise is the foresight of Atotoztli. For no sooner had the sentries been posted, then a Korean raiding party was sighted to the East of the city.

An archer and a Javelineer stood on a hill, overlooking the city. Though they seemed to be wounded, they still had the strength to wave their armaments at the new city, gesturing as to the fate of the peoples should they fall into their hands. With this display, a squad of Jaguars, who had been trained in battlefield medicine, but still carrying the deadly, claw's of their kind, were dispatched from the city, to remove this threat.

Spoiler :

With the sighting of the 1st Jaguars Medical unit, the Koreans took flight. Limping over the wooded hills, fear upon their faces, always glancing over their shoulders, for the sounds of the battle cries of the feared Jaguars.

Seeing that, they couldn't outrun the Jaguars, they chose to stand and fight upon a grassland hill, letting loose a volley of arrows into the pursuing Jaguars. With this last desperate measure, the 1st Jaguars medical unit, fell upon the Korean Archers. Seeing the Archers mercilessly cut down by the Jaguars, the Korean Javelineers, who had been providing reserve support, now took to flight for their lives. Like a hungry predator on the trail of a wounded beast, the Jaguars took to the chase.

Seeing the lights of their salvation, the city of Seoul in the distance, but with the Jaguars always at their heels. The Javelineers took shelter in a wood upon a grassland hill, to give them time to heal and re-cooperate. The Jaguars, seeing their wounded pray, trying to rest, leapt at their throats. With the savagery of the hungry beast they were named after, they tore into the exhausted Javelineers, killing them all with no losses.

Seeing the despised city of Seoul in the distance, and knowing that the Holy City Dot Map, demanded is destruction and removal from the face of this world, they proceeded to scout out the defences of that enemy city.

All the while the slaves of Tenochitlan, gaining in confidence, with the dispatch of troops to the new cities, proceeded to express their dissatisfaction with their lot, by refusing to preform the duties assigned to them. Atotoztli's wisdom, decided that a few turns of lost production, was worth more than the cost of replacing the slaves in the city. (No whipping for 2 population)

Spoiler :

While scouting about Seoul, the 1st Jaguars Medical squad, came across a squad of Archers upon a wooded hill. Blood lust, overcome military strategy, and they charged up the wooded hill, into the midst of the Archers. Sadly they were reduced to 1.87 in strength, and found that a fully healed Squad of Javelineers, stood in reserve of the position. Resigned to their lot, they stood ready to repel the expected assault in the coming night.

Spoiler :

“Cowards all”, sneered the 1st Jaguars medical unit. “They fear us so much, they won't try to avenge their archer comrades. What sought of honour is this”.

Though they stood at only a 2% chance to win a victory, an assault was considered, but wisely cooler heads prevailed. They remained encamped upon the wooded hill to heal, and plot the destruction of Seoul.

2 cycles later, having substantially healed, the 1st Jaguars medical squad, annihilated the Korean Javelineers, then they then sat in encampment awaiting more forces, when another squad of Javelineers was dispatched from Seoul, by the Defending Great General Zhuge Liang.

“Bah, typical of the Generals, where one unit fails, send another to replace it, no thought as to strategy.” sneered the squad leader is disgust. “More meat for the grinder”

More and more units were dispatched to defend that wooded hill outside the walls of Seoul. Each time the 1st Jaguars medical unit, would simply rush up that hill, through the secret paths that they had found, and come upon the enemy from an unexpected quarter. Each time they would only leave the bodies of the dead Koreans, for no Jaguar bodies were left behind. Adding to the myth of them being Devils or Demons from the dark wilds.

2149 BC Ceremonial Burial

The cycles of the snail counted down, for word had reached the Aztec people, of a great wonder being built out in the wilds of this world, the Hanging Gardens. “Gardens suspended from a rope, what sought of wonder is this.???

Spoiler :

Bah, Aztec's have no need of greenery. Hammers, food, strength of arms, these are the Aztec way.

Ceremonial burial, something for the council of fools to preside over. Veneration of the fallen, for it was not enough to put up a stone monument, if the people couldn't show their true feelings.

Spoiler :

This now allowed the adoption of the doctrine of Divine Cult, but wasn't Atotoztli the divine one, did she not guide us in our quest to concur these lands.

Spoiler :

Four squads of Jaguars were commissioned to be raised in Tenochitlan. The people rushed to the barracks to receive the training, for word had reached them of the exploits of the 1st Jaguars medical squad. Though they had no real military training, they were dominating the battlefield. All wanted in on this, gone were the fears of Trolls, Giants and monsters, for truly, were the armed forces of Aztec the ones to be feared in the dark wilds of this world.

Two great forests were cleared from Tenochitlan, the harvested wood, went into the recruitment of the 3rd Setting group, farm land had replaced the woods on the border of the city. Once the remaining malcontent's and Dissidents had been rounded up, the troops would be recruited to defend the new city. All praise the Holy City Dot Map. :worship:

The 1st Explorers squad, had continued to explore the darkness of the Northern Continent, mapping out the lands, noting the resources, fighting off Bears, Lion packs, skirting about the barbarians wandering in the darkness, for they showed their true bravery in braving the unknown, armed only with a sword, helmet and breast plates.

Spoiler :

Exploring the wilds, confirmed the wisdom of the Holy City Dot Map. The 1st Explorers Squad, had came across a barbarian group of assorted hovels, but the striking thing was its coastal location, upon a river, and the surplus of resources located within. Upon consulting the Holy City Dot Map, it was decided, that the city would need to be destroyed, and relocated across the river.

Spoiler :

2072 – The Burning of Seoul

Down in the Valley, by the river, lay the Village of Seoul. A collection of rude mud huts, stock yards and muddy streets, this is what the others called Civilisation. 4 Jaguars squads, the 2nd to the 5th, surrounded the city on the Northern Western edge to the North East. The 1st Jaguars Medical squad provided flanking support across the river, to the South East, to catch all who would seek to flee.

The commander seeing that all were in position and ready, called for the attack, The 4th Squad had the honour of the 1st assault. Spirits raised by the honour, 4th Squad gathered their weapons, danced from side to side to raise a evoke the spirit of the Jaguar, for which they were named, and raced into the rude city.

Zhuge Ling, upon hearing the blood curdling scream of the Jaguar's attacking, directed his finest unit of Archers, whom he hadn't sacrificed to the 1st Jaguars medical squad, to man the walls in defence. Skilled in the defence of their homes, hiding behind walls, they loosened of Volley after volley of arrows. Onwards rushed the 4th Squad, upon reaching the walls, the 1st man would crouch down, raise his shield, and the following men would leap upon their shields and over the walls.

Inside the compound, fear reigned. Blue feathered madmen, came bounding over the walls. They took one look at the defenders, crouching behind the walls, gave out a great cry and launched themselves into the packed defenders. Great hand to hand combat rang out, bravely did the defenders resist, but the assault was quick, ferocious and deadly. One by one the defenders and attackers fell to ground wounded, but in the end, only the 4th remained standing to claim the field. They then proceeded to slit the throats of the wounded defenders, gathering up their own wounded with grace and care.

Seeing the 4th successfully bounding over the walls, the commander, ordered the 3rd squad to now attack the under defended northern walls. With a cry, they launched themselves towards the city. Bounding out of the jungle, they used the same tactics employed by the 4th Squad. Once over the walls, ropes were let down for the stepping stone units to scale the walls, while the majority of the squad, fanned out into the city.

Upon coming to the Central square of the city, they came upon Zhuge Liang and his reserve unit. Letting out a war cry, worthy of the beast for which they were named, they launched into battle. Surprise and speed of attack, was with the 3rd, for they slaughtered the reserve unit, made up of the lessor citizens, with minimal injuries.

Spoiler :

Zhuge, seeing that all was lost, fell upon his sword. The only honourable and military worthy thing that he had done for the Koreans. Ransacking the city, Seoul was put to the torch, with the remaining civilians, put into a chain gang, and led in a display back to Tenochitlan, and the viewing pleasure of Atotoztli's eye's.

2065 – Polytheism

With the Burning of Seoul, the Korean scourge still remained. Rumours abounded of a 2nd city, or of units in the wilds. While the 1st Jaguars medical squad, healed up the assailants, the 5th Squad, was reduced to escort duties of the newly enslaved Koreans.

Having completely healed the wounds from the attack, the Jaguars squads split apart, looking for the last of the Korean scourge. It was their holy duty to rid this world of this infestation, for once the world had been cauterised of this seeping sore to the beauty of the Aztec, the Romans would be next.

Outwards the squads fanned, 4 of them went south, working their way to the Roman infestation, that the Koreans had so hated. The 5th squad, freed from its escort duties, having delivered the slaves to Tlatelolco, took this chance to scout out the city site, upon the Holy City Dot Map, within the Tundra to the North.

Cold and frostbitten, the 5th Squad, had found the Korean city of Pyongyang. Settled in the frozen North. Located upon a stone resource, but worst of ALL, it was the Holy city of Zoroastrianism. Such an affront could not be borne by the Jaguars of Aztec, the city would have to be burnt. The Holy City Dot Map :worship:, could not tolerate such a cities existence.

Spoiler :

2002 BC – Monotheism

Spoiler :

Monotheism, worship of the one true god. Adoption of a State church religious civic could now be undertaken for 2 turns of unrest. For though worship of the one true god, was strong, there were those who would seek to resist change. Pagan beliefs and worship still abounded. (opp's I forgot)

Spoiler :

The solidification of the states control over religion, could only stiffen the beliefs, resolve and unity of the peoples.

Squads of Jaguars now converged on the Doomed city of Pyongyang. Located in the frozen grounds of the tundra of the north,no food, stone the only resource, they couldn't grow, or be brought into the fold of the Holy City Dot Map. Destruction or enslavement, is all that awaits the peoples of Pyongyang.

1996 BC – Richard Whittington

A great merchant, Richard Whittington, had arisen in the fair city of Tenochitlan, he proceeded to set up a profitable business, within the city, bring 6:gold: and 1:food: to Tenochitlan.

[1953 BC – Chariotry

Chariotry, had been fully researched this cycle, with the previous cycle marking the settlement of the city of Texcoco. A caravan of goods had arrived in the city with its settlement, and was used to facilitate the rapid building of a Wheelwright, for the trade is could afford the city and the 2:science: given.

The Noble Aztec Jaguars, continued there assault upon the defenders of Pyongyang. Braving the frozen north, they had to develop way's to conduct combat in that frozen land.

Spoiler :

Utilising both their forest skills and the new Arctic combat training, the brave Aztec Jaguars, continued the assault upon the defenders out of the city, 3 Archers and 1 Javelineers squad all fell to the Jaguars, until a Axe Squad, did try to assail the entrenched Javelineers in the forest, across a river. Sadly the 1st squad, failed in its endeavour, despite being assured of a 70% chance of victory.

Ferociously, did the defenders of Pyongyang, hold onto their foothold outside of the city, in the Tundra forest. With just as much tenacity, the Aztec Jaguars did nip and tear at the defenders, slowly but surely wearing them away. Finally the last defender, had been removed from that forested tundra hill, outside the walls of Pyongyang. But having suffered severe wounding in the attack, it wasn't able to be held, by the Aztec's, they returned to the camp to awaited full healing to return to destroy the city.

More defenders of Pyongyang, moved out to the hillside of slaughter. Once more the unfortunate units were destroyed, an Archer and Javelineers unit, were found and destroyed, for minimal injuries to the attacking Jaguars. Their renown, continued to grow.

Again, a Javelineers unit, was dispatched to hold the Tundra, forested Hillside. Once more, the 1st Jaguars medical unit, raced up the hill via the secret animal paths it knew. Once more they surgically dispatched the defenders. Skilled in saving lives of their fellow Jaguars, but deadly in the offence against the wooded enemies.

1897 BC – The Death of Pyongyang

The Korean city of Pyongyang was doomed.

First, they had settled in the Tundra, above and out of the Holy City Dot Map.
Secondly, they had founded the Heathen religion of Zoroastrianism, Heresy
Thirdly, they had attracted the snow bound barbarians, who smelling the immediate death of the city, had descended upon its corpse, like vultures of the African plains.

Spoiler :

For now, did the Aztec Jaguar units, deal the final blows to that city. They had drained its strength, through the combat for the Arctic forested Hill top. Now they commenced the final assault upon the city itself.

First the 1st Medical Jaguars squad, did destroy the helpless Korean Archers, sent to defend the Tundra Hill top, littered with the bones of deceased comrades.

Next the 4th Jaguars Squad, assailed the city, running straight up the hillside, into the unwalled city. They then proceeded to run through the streets, and out the other side, killing all whom they would come across.

The 5th, next to try the assault, ran at the city, a hail storm of arrows falling upon them from the defenders. They raced into the streets of the city, but not having full intelligence of the layout, were ambushed. A great fight for life ensured, with the defenders knowledge of the city, proving the deciding factor.

The 3rd Jaguars squad, having learnt of the layout of the city, from the 4th, charged up the hill, and into the city. The defending Javelineers, having heard of the fearsome reputation and seeing it first hand went to water, broke and were cut down to a man.

The honour of the cities destruction fell to the 2nd Jaguars. They casually walked up the hill side, no opposition was forth coming. The defending Archers, who had defeated the 5th Jaguars, were all lying around on the ground, tending to wounds, mending broken weapons, and shattered spirits. Upon seeing the 2nd Jaguars, they fell to the ground, begging for their lives and to be taken into service by the Aztec Armed forces.

All the Details of Caste System, that the Koreans had hoarded, was offered to the Aztec's as a sign of their subjugation, It was of no use. They were herded into the central square, and executed as a warning to all others. The city was sacked, with a Granary, forge, Apiary and Monument being looted for the Aztec empire. The collection of hovels was set alight, with all remaining citizens put to the sword. No slaves would be taken to tell of this tale.

1890 BC – Fall of Rome

Atotoztli, realising the state still hadn't gotten control of the church, resolved to ensure the adoption of this new civic.

State Church, would be adopted, the one true god, shall be venerated.

With its adoption, 2 cycles of anarchy ensued. Simple people didn't want to change their religion, who was this 'one true god' and why did the state have to have a hand in it.

For Atotoztli had decreed it to be so, is why, and the masses lot is not to question their lords, but to obey and serve them.

A settling group, had been landed upon the island mass to the West of 1st Squad, a band of Axe men lead the reconnaissance party to scout out the Island. They were immediately set upon by a pride of mangy lions, who patrolled the shore, looking for washed up sea life.

Truly, this was the land of the dammed, it seemed they had descended into the realm of Lost. Lions assailed them upon the beach, a polar bear attacked them in the Jungle interior, Jack roamed the jungle, crying out for Kate to return to the Island. More lions came down from the North, always they were on the defensive.

Consultation of the Holy City Dot Map, didn't allow for any city overlap, not even on the seas. As a result the settlers were forced to look inland for the 1st city site. This Island seemed to be exceedingly large, and abundant in resources, a great spot for a colony to be created.

A 3rd squad of explorers, had been formed, and sent to explore the new landmass, but it wasn't found to be an Island, but an extension of the existing land mass, with a tundra land bridge, blockaded by a mountain range. None the less, it was found to be a fair and lush landscape. Horses, stone, sheep and incense were all found amongst the grassland plains.

Another city was founded, the city of Tlaxcala, along a river, with further provision for another city along the southern section and a 3rd in the icy wastes of the north, containing pearls, whales and fish.

Spoiler :

All the while, the 4 victorious Jaguar squads, had been assigned Barbarian hunting and suppression duties about the the fair city of Tlatelolco. Such was the ignominy of serving in the Aztec armed forces.

1732 BC – Currency

Currency had been researched, coins now filled the hands of the Aztec peoples, they took to this form of barter, with great abandon. No more would they have to haggle over equal value of service and goods.

Spoiler :

This allowed the building of the markets, and a river authority when a sacrificial alter and river was present in the city. Wealth could be amassed by the masses, no longer would you count your wealth in the favours owed to you, with this new coin, all remained equal in the barter.

This also allows the adoption of the Coinage civic,

Spoiler :

With the loss of 10% gold per city, and the consumption of all Silver and Gold, the Jewellers would be useless and cost more money again. Atotoztli, decided against such an adoption.

Tenochitlan, decided to commission the construction of a River Authority. This building would have a double effect.

Spoiler :

It would not only give 6:gold:, but would equally provide 6:science:, for wise is Atotoztli, for building cities upon the rivers is a mighty strategy.

1642 – Heinz Guderian

Heinz Guderian had been born

Spoiler :

With the birth of a great general, from the barbarian war's, Atotoztli, had 3 choices of use.

1) Merge the great general with a combat squad, creating extra experience for that unit.
2) Merge the Great General into the city, and aid with the training of further units.
3) Create a Great Commander, and lead the Armies of Aztec, in the battlefields to Victory.

Spoiler :

A great commander was created, to lead the armies of Aztec, in their Holy duty, to settle these lands according to the direction of the Holy City Dot Map.

1594 – Code of Laws

Codification of the laws of Aztec had now been completed.

Spoiler :

With the codification of the laws, a new government civic was enabled, Senate.

Spoiler :

The executive rule of the masses, by a gifted and elected few. Seeing the need to give full autonomy to the masses, Atotoztli, decided that popular representation, was the only way to fully have the Aztec peoples express their will.

Democracy would need to be researched by the council of advisers, and a report presented to Atotoztli. A way for the people to have a direct say in the election of their representatives to the council of advisers for Atotoztli. 14 cycles of the snail, had been allocated for this task, no more would be allowed.

1570 BC – Confucianism

Word reached the Aztec empire, that the heathen religion of Confucianism had been founded in the wilds of the world. Such a heretic belief, honour thy ancestors, parents and elders, respect the governing authorities, duty. BAH!!! there were the natural way of the Aztec, we needed no religious instruction to follow these. How weak and morally corrupt could a society be, to need a religious tenet to follow such a natural order of things.

The colony of Tlaxcala, being so isolated, needed trade caravans from both Tenochitlan and 1st Squad, to fully develop. A cadre of Missionaries was also to be formed, to spread the word of the one true god of this world.

The Jaguars, who had been placed upon Barbarian suppression duties, were to be released and replaced by other auxiliary troops. Further squads to be formed and all lead by our Great Commander Heinz Guderian.

1504 – Democracy

Democratus had been reported upon to Atotoztli, the people would now have a say in the election of their representatives to the council of advisement. The people quickly caught onto these ideas;

“Republic, Republic,” Cried Marcus Aurelius Antoninous Augustus, Caesar of all the known world “Representation for the people, by the people”
“Senate, we must have a check and balance to the governing council”

Spoiler :

Mostly, it was the younger generations who campaigned for there reforms. Many were the die-hards, who couldn't brook any change to the status quo. Many had a vested interest in maintaining the way things were, they had invested great bribes, time and resources into cultivating the patronage of the ruling classes. They had the most to lose, they could easily say the feeble minded, the desperate, with money to support their causes.

Proletariat, was also adopted, to appease the lower working classes.

Spoiler :

For not only would the all free men have a vote in the Government, but the indentured working classes, would also be given some relief. A reduction of 50% in the growth levels of cities, due to the freeing up of the food distribution networks, and the lifting of the working standards of the lower classes, only propelled the growth of the cities.

Adoption of these new civics, would entail 6 cycles of anarchy, the people would have to fight for the reforms they so wanted, that others so desperately opposed.

Spoiler :

All the while, the dark barbarians, from the wilds continued their campaign of destruction, pillage and murder. Axemen, the Barbarians had now gotten hold of Axes,

Spoiler :

they must have looted the Technology, from the ruins of one of the Korean cities, or traded with a lessor civ. Though they had the technology, they still didn't have proper training in Arctic warfare. Cold and frostbitten, they trudged to the warmth of the glow of Civilisation. Mindlessly, like animals, they ran to the fires, and not away, seeking the warmth and comfort of township. But being uncivilised, they couldn't comprehend its benefits, and only sought to pillage, rape, and destroy all that shined into the darkness of this world.

1384 – Olympic Games

Atotoztli, had requested that a form of sporting entertainment be devised, to hone the martial skills of the warriors, but not always fatal. The newly formed Senate, debated this matter, for some 16 cycles of the snail. Atotoztli, had now come to regret the forming this body, all talk and no substance, no production of results for the empire, though it did seem to keep the people happy none the less.

Finally a committee put forward a design of a new form for a Horse, it had wide soft cloven feet, a large hump, hairy, was bad tempered and could run for day's......

“What of the Olympic Games, what of my sporting events, martial skills matches?”

“Oh, yes”, the committee went back into chambers, fumbled about and came back quickly with the design of the Olympic Games, Constructed in Tenochitlan.

“Didn't you get your invitation to the opening.?” they enquired.

“NO!!! I DID NOT” screamed back Atotoztli.

“Well here's our design.

Spoiler :

We have held the first games, and as a result, a stadium has been built in every city, to allow the training of competitors across the empire. All the games, shall be held in your name though, oh Holy Atotoztli”, stammered the fearful Committeemen.

1360 BC -Literature
A universal schooling system for the empire had been proposed by the Republic. Education for the masses, this would not only boost the production of the empire, but increase the science output. New research could be conducted in a quicker fashion.

Spoiler :

Far from just knowing that, sticking an axe into an opponent, would most likely kill, or severely maim them, knowing the full physics, counter moves, balances, trade, maths, philosophy. The results seemed endless. Many bright minds would now come to the fore. No longer would they 1st have to satisfy the needs and whims of patrons, who put their food on the table, for some curiosity.

An educated class of citizens. Who would have a vested interest, in the removal of the barbarians threatening the Aztec Civilisation, and in concurring this world.

1270 BC – Construction

New construction techniques had now been devised, by the now educated population. Paving for the roads, allowed the rapid transport of the Military to any hot spots within the empire.

Spoiler :

Worker chain gangs, flooded the empire, everywhere, they were building roads, mines, farms or other infrastructure needed for the orderly running of an empire. More worker chain gangs would need to be employed, and the jails and debtor prisons were emptied to fill the needs of Empire.

Jaguars, for the conquest of Rome, were now being recruited, along with an Axeman and
Spearman for guarding of the city killing machines. Siege warfare, would need to be researched, machines for the demolishing of walls and other fortifications would be required. Gone were the day's of walking into an unwalled village. Cities had begun to arise around the world, greater defences would be encountered, and as such, greater machines of war would be needed to counter this measure of defence.

1186 BC – Terracotta Army

A great wonder had been commissioned by Atotoztli in 1st Squad, The Terracotta Army.

This wonder had been commissioned for the Veneration of the 1st Squad, that the city was now named after, and for all soldiers who would fall in the service of Aztec, had now been completed. Her people would be buoyed in the wars, her enemies would suffer increased war weariness, as they didn't have the assured burial chambers for their fallen soldiers.

Spoiler :

To Rome we Go

The armed forces of Aztec, had now been unleashed. Jaguars, eager for blood, raced ahead of the main army. Through the forests the ran, howling and baying for Roman blood. For the Holy City Dot Map, had condemned the city of Rome, it must be cleansed from the map.

Racing towards Rome, the Jaguars came upon a Roman group of workers. Leaping out of the forest coverage, they surrounded the startled workers, and immediately clapped them into the chains of Aztec, never had the Romans smelled so sweet. Another group of workers was spotted one League to the South West of the first group. The exhausted Jaguars, unable to give chase, simply mocked them, waving their swords, dancing about. Such was the myths about the Jaguar squads of Aztec, that only one look, at a distance of one league, which was one league too close for any self respecting Roman worker. Seeing that the fate of the workers in the 1st group was slavery and whips, they took to running, as fast as they could, away from the trees and the Jaguars.

The Jaguar squads had finally reached the lands of the Romans. Seeing 3 squads of Roman Archers, encamped in the fields, adjacent to the forests, blood lust over came the squads. The Jaguar commanders could barely maintain discipline and have them attack in organised squads. Lots were drawn as too who would get the honour of 1st blood. three Squads were selected, they all lined up at the tree line, and with a side stepping bound they leapt out of the forest, and into the Roman archers. A 4th squad of archers, providing logistical support to the front line, was also destroyed by the rabid Jaguar squads. Then a 5th Squad was sighted two leagues to the West, South West of the gathered Army, the pestilence is everywhere. Quickly a squad had leapt off into the jungle after the Romans. Upon reaching the Grassland hill containing the mine and the enemy squad, they rushed up the hill, through the hail of the defenders arrows and slaughtered them to a man.

Now the walls of Rome loomed before the Jaguar Squads, they would have to lay in siege on 3 sides, until the supporting troops arrived at the city, to aid in its destruction. For the Holy City Dot Map, had been consulted, and it had been determined, that the Roman city of Rome, was an affront to its sensible settlement of the Northern Continent, and must be removed at all costs. Bands of Dissidents, Malcontent's with the current status quo, and adventurous souls were being recruited to settle the new cities.

Spoiler :

Science funding for the Empire had been reduced to 35% of available resources. The Aztec research rates had not suffered as a result, and the surplus gold was flowing into the coffers of the Treasury at the rate of 84:gold: per cycle, even with the funding of foreign wars.

Atotoztli, was seriously concerned, that none would be able to stand against her. For with the destruction of Rome, the armies would be sent to Pillage and destroy the 2nd known Roman city. From there she planned just to build more and more cities, the North would be an Aztec land, civilised, cultured and urbane. No foreign influence would remain to tarnish the greatness of the Aztec's, and history would quickly forget the lessors of this world.

Patrolling the surrounding lands, the Roman pestilence was everywhere, a squad of Javelineers had been sighted two leagues from Rome, on a forested hill, they were quickly dispatched. Then another Column of six squads of Roman soldiery was sighted, one league to the west of the first group upon a forested hill top. What they were doing there, the Heinz Guderian could only Guess. Maybe they were engaged in training to emulate the Jaguar prowess, who knows. All that was known, was that the Roman pestilence must be eradicated in full.

Hamilcar Barca, had been sighted out of the Roman city, in the woods, where the Jaguars skills excelled. This was too good an opportunity to miss.

Spoiler :

Heinz Guderian, ordered all available Jaguar squads, to rush to the offence against Hamilcar, and bring his head for presentation to Atotoztli.

All the squads rushed to obey the orders of the Great Commander. The 8th Squad, found themselves to be in position 1st, and launched an attack against the Roman column of soldiers. Hamilcar Barca, himself, choose to defend against this first assault, no greater honour could be bestowed upon the 8th.

With savage grins, and war cries to do credit to the beast they were named after, they launched themselves into the fray. Arrows rained down from Hamilcar's personal guard, as the Jaguars danced about the falling death. Running at a breakneck pace through the wooded hills, they finally came upon the archers, for now it would be hand to hand.

For though the losses had been heavy, in running through that storm of arrows, with up to 90% of the squad having being wounded. Drew their swords and launched themselves at the personal guard of Hamilcar. Now they were amongst the hated Roman archers, and a great slaughter ensued, leaving only the 8th squad, standing proud and victorious. Further clean up squads, now removed the supporting units for this column of Roman soldiery. Hamilcar's head was summerally removed from his body, preserved in salt and sent to Heinz Guderian to present to Atotoztli, with the body was just left to rot where it lay.

Siege of Rome

Now the siege of Rome began, Onwards went the attack, Squad after Squad of Jaguars launched themselves at the city. Racing up to the walls, employing the strategy that had worked so well against the Koreans. But the Romans were now ready for such tactics, surprise did work ,but preparation of the defences allowed for more Roman victories then the odds should have allowed.

But with each Roman victory, came 2 or 3 defeats. Even if they were winning at a rate over and above the 21% rate, they were given, they were falling all the same, and more Aztec troops had yet to join the fight. They had fanned out to surround the city on 5 sides, with Heinz Guderian overseeing it all from the central command post.

On the 2nd cycle of the attack, the defending Roman soldiery had been reduced to a battered rabble. Now the Aztec Jaguar units could attack at 100% effectiveness. Undermanned, with no more archers remaining to shoot volley's of defence. They charged at the City of Rome, the front line of each squad would crouch, the following lines would then leapt upon their upraised shields and over the walls.

The Honour of the taking of the city, fell to the 1st Medical Jaguars Squad, while the other squads kept the remaining defenders occupied, they had scaled the walls in an undermanned section, ran through the city to the central square. Finding the command post and the poorest of units in reserve and re-cooperation, slaughtered all who stood in opposition to them, destroying the last co-ordinated defence of the city. They then proceeded to create havoc within the city, looting, ransacking, and setting fire to the city. The final tally was, over 200:gold:, two additional slave gangs of Roman citizens, and one slave gang of Roman workers.

Spoiler :

Of the remaining column of Roman soldiers, nothing had been heard. It was known that they were encamped to the East of the city, but had not chosen not to engage the only Jaguars squad to come across them. They had not even tried to come to the aid of the doomed city and were branded Cowards one and all. For a column of six squads, would not even fight one wounded squad of Jaguars, such was the renown of the Fighting Jaguar Squads of Aztec.

The loot, slaves, and gold taken from the city, were gathered into a caravan, and dispatched back to the city of Texcoco, for a parade, and to be put to work in the employ of the mighty Aztec Emporium.

1138 BC – 910 BC Death of Antium

Siege Warfare

Rome had Fallen, only 1 city remained of the Roman pestilence to infect the Aztec world. Sweet smelling slaves, in the iron chains of the Aztec's, along with the gold and treasures of that city, proceeded in procession to Texcoco. The armed forces of Aztec reigned supreme upon the battlefields of this world. None it seemed could oppose them.

Settlement of this Northern continent, was now the Number one aim of the Aztec peoples, under the benign direction of Atotoztli. Eradication of the Roman pestilence, would off course take precedence, but this had been achieved for the most part, with the removal of Rome itself.

Citizens were being recruited, in the fully developed cities, for new settling bands. Dissidents, malcontent's and other critics, of the current cities, were rounded up. These were joined by pioneering citizens, who could see the new opportunities and freedoms of a new settlement. To be the first in a new city, to renowned for all time, as a founding father or mother of that city.

As always, the poor, indebted, the petty thieves, who hadn't been executed upon the sacrificial alters , were impressed into the worker gangs, joining the enslaved citizens and workers of the captured cities of the enemies. Armed forces were recruited to guard the; new cities, impressed citizens and the not so willing settlers, trained and armed for the arduous journey ahead.

Siege Warfare had now been researched

Spoiler :

High wall could now be constructed in all the Aztec cities. This would not only raise the defence levels of the City to 50%, but would also provide a 40% defence against the siege weapons, that had just been developed. For as surely as the sun would rise, others would copy the innovations of the Aztec Empire.

With Siege warfare, came the ability to equip the Spearmen units of Aztec Empire, with Long Pikes, increasing their effectiveness and strength in formations. Iron would be required for this, but unfortunately, the empire lacked this resource, for the moment. The settlement of cities across this wide and wild land, would surely bring this resource, within the empire.

Jaguar squads, now fully healed by the Heroic 1st Jaguars Medical squad of Tenochitlan, had been unleashed once again. They raced through the wooded lands, howling and baying for Roman blood. Heinz Guderian, had gone on ahead, with two squads of Archers and one of Axes as his personal guard. The Jaguars had been instructed to scout out the surrounding woods, for any Roman stragglers or further Roman infestations to be eradicated.

Rome, HA. They had settled by a lake, placed another city on the far shore of that lake, and claimed that they had encompassed the known civilised world. Yes, their own petty little world, not even the equal of the newest settled Aztec city. For now, the wrath of the Unknown, Barbarian, according to them, world was coming to show them the true nature of things.

1066 BC - Visgoth

While scouting out the lake, that the pitiful Romans had assumed was the world, the Jaguar squads of Aztec, came across a Barbarian city of Visgoth.

Spoiler :

Needing some more training in city assaults, the squads, took it upon themselves to further their training with the taking and burning of this set of Barbarians hovels, located upon a grassland knoll.

Fanning out around the city, lots had been drawn, to see who would have the honour of attacking this city. The 3rd Squad of Tenochitlan was the first to go. Bounding out of the jungle, dancing around the falling arrows of the defenders, they raced up the hill, into the village of straw huts, and came at the first defending group of Barbarians. An ugly, ill mannered and SMELLY lot they were. Drawing their swords, they quickly dispatched the group, and then provided flanking support for the 4th Squad. The 4th Squad, following the lead of the 3rd, charged up the hill with flanking support, quickly engaging the band of unruly barbarians sent to oppose them. These were eliminated with minor wounds being sustained.

Now only the Javelineers of the Barbarians stood in defence. They all gathered in the central square of the village, overturning carts, stands, grabbing civilians as shields. The Jaguar commander, seeing such cowardly actions, sent in the final selected squad to finish the job. The 6th Squad, waiting across the river, was sent in. They forded the river, raced up the grassy knoll, strolled into the village, formed up formation, walking slowly, beating their shields, into the central square.

Now the defending Javelineers, seeing the feared Jaguar squads of Aztec, seeing what had happened to the other two defending squads, immediately broke and ran in all directions. Such sport as this aroused the blood lust of the hunting Jaguars. Breaking their own ranks, they immediately set out after the fleeing Javelineers. Upon catching one, they would throw them to their knees, pull back their heads, and slit their throats.

Once all the so called defenders had been eliminated, the village was sacked, a ceremonial fire pit and an Apiary was taken as loot, with the remaining buildings all put to the torch. For though the Village was upon a river, with an working Gold mine, it was 1 tile from the lake shore, and was such an affront to the Holy City Dot Map, that it could not be tolerated. No slaves were taken, no memory of this city would exist, only the enigmatic ruins would remain to show that something had once stood here. The Jaguars, now regrouped, healed and continued around the shore of the lake, to take the Roman city from behind, such is the way of the Jaguar.

1048 BC – Meditation

Spoiler :

Ohhmmm..Ohhmmmm...OOhhmmmmm...Meditation had been researched. The tranquillity and serenity from clearing ones mind. Building of Monasteries would be undertaken. Missionaries of the one true god of this world, would now be able to undergo instruction. Education of the religious class, would boost the empire.

A change of the Welfare civics was called for, Charity would be abandoned by the state, and taken up by the new Churches of the one true god.

Spoiler :

This would entail 2 turns of Anarchy, for the people would be most fearful of who would take care of the ill, the old and the feeble of body unable to work. It would take time to educate them in the new way of things.

Hellenic Gymnasia's were commissioned in all the cities of Aztec.

Spoiler :

These building offered;

1) A 10% increase in science output for the city.
2) 1 :health: for the city, with the Church Welfare civics adoption
3) A free Pankration promotion for each unit, built with this city.

Spoiler :

Xi Ling Shi had been born into Tenochitlan, she was instructed to build and oversee an academy for the benefit of the sciences of the city. 14.9 :science: boost, and a 6 :culture: increase in output was achieved, from the renown of this great woman.

1036 BC Battle is joined

Heinz Guderians personal guard, had come upon the Roman cities cultural boundaries. A column of 6 units was sent out to engage the personal guard.

“Cowards, sent to oppose the mighty Aztec war machine, these would be the ones who had ran so hard from the sight of one Jaguars squad.” Sneered Heinz. “Look how bravely they defend their own lands, for Aztec lands are those we STAND UPON. ALL will be defended as such”.

1st Axemen squad , Alpha Company of Texcoco, was selected to test the mettle of these so called soldiers. Challenging a squad to fight them in the fields. No archery squad would face such a feared opponent, leaving it up to a newly formed raw squad of Javelineers to face off.

The 1st Axemen's charged into the Javelineers, so hungry for battle were they, cohesion of formation was lost upon the axes, and un-nessacary losses were sustained by them. They were admonished by Heinz Guderian, and sent to the rear of the formation to heal.

Spoiler :

The flanking Jaguars, hoping to come upon the Roman city from behind, had been deceived by the intelligence given to them by the barbarians. They had come to the end of a cape, across the seas, they could see the distant Roman city, and their Great Commander, Heinz Guderian, engaged in glorious combat. The Jaguars were enraged, frustrated, and devastated all at the same time. Would any glory remain, for the claiming, would the personal guard of Heinz Guderian claim all that was on offer. It would take some 15 Cycles and 30 leagues, for them to reach the front, it it still existed by the time they arrived.

“The Cowardly Romans, have fled before my personal guard, I don't believe it. What sought of honour is this, Roman honour, more likely no honour.” Heinz muttered to himself. The Romans had fled the field, so fearsome of the Jaguar squads of Aztec they were. “Show them some personal guards, and they flee, for these weren't troops of the highest grade, but retired veterans.”

990 BC – Calendar

The recording of the passing of time had been finally devised by the Advisory council of Atotoztli.

Spoiler :

Now instead for watching the cycles of a snail about a circular pit, they could record the passing of the years, with the counting of the seasons, the passage of the sun and moon. Ages could now be given a numerical naming, and not the great events that would happen. Plantations, now could be placed upon the wild incense. Harvesting of this resource, would now begin in the importance of being Earnest.

Onwards rushed the Jaguar squads. For that cowardly Roman column of squads, who behaved more like squids in having no backbone, had been sighted trying to outflank the personal guard of Heinz Guderian. Fear gripped the squads of Jaguars, not the fear of battle, but the real fear of Missing the battle entirely.

Praise be to Atotoztli, for the personal guard of Heinz Guderian, had only been amusing themselves with the Roman scourge. Picking off a squad here and there, making sure not to bloody their fine uniforms or blunt their precious axes. The archers, not used to the rigours of the campaign, were getting sore arms, from having to rise from beds upon the ground, and not their accustomed feathered mattresses. Launch a volley of their precious arrows (they are only wood and steal tips, for Atotoztli's sake), then retire to the parade ground to preen themselves.

For now, the true armed might of Aztec, was descending upon the Romans. Panting Jaguars, having traversed 30 Leagues in 14 day's, were not tired, only fearful for the battle being concluded, with the city sacked, slaves chained and beaten before they could arrive. They needed not had feared, for many more Roman squads were there for the claiming.

4 squads of Roman Archers and 1 of Javelineers, took up position in a corpse of tree's to the South West of the newly arrived Jaguars. As there were eight squads of Jaguars, lots had to be drawn to see who could taste battle first. All five of the first attacking groups succeeded, with the 4th squad, taking unexpected heavy losses, due to its eagerness to close battle, and not maintaining discipline. All the next 4 squads, all taking heed of the example set, won the day with no losses.

Another group of 5 Roman archers, was located to the South West of this newly won position, facing off against the personal guard of Heinz Guderian. 3 more squads of selected Jaguars, were able to attack into this group, for no losses. Heinz's guard, now took to the offensive, inspired by the Jaguars squads, they launched an attack to finally remove the Roman disease.

945 BC - Antium's Death

The Roman city of Antium, now lay before the victorious Jaguars.

Spoiler :

The Holy City Dot Map :worship: was consulted. What resulted was an outbreak of rage and disgust. For not only was it not upon a river or hill. It was located so as to cause overlap upon the Holy City Dot Map. For all Aztec Citizens knew the Mantra of the Holy City Dot Map

Spoiler :
[Chant] ALL PRAISE THE DOT MAP, FOR THE DOT MAP IS SUPREME, CITIES ON RIVERS WITH RESOURCES ARE MIGHTY, FOR NO OVERLAP OF THE DOT MAP MAYBE ALLOWED. NO CITY IS ASSURED OF BEING KEPT, LEAST IT BE A CAPITAL, UPON COAST OR 3 TILES FROM THE COAST. [/Chant]

Wonders, the Aztec people are the wonders of this world, for no city, no matter what wonders it may contain, is assured of being destroyed if outside of the parameters of the Holy City Dot Map. Petra Smetra, it would all be burn to the ground.

”Ha, Roman cowards” Yelled Heinz after the running Roman flanking units, “A couple of wounds, and you run for your mothers skirts. No matter, she'll be within out chains shortly enough.”

Heinz now planned the long awaited assault upon the city. The 9th Squad, fresh from the Barracks of Tenochitlan, had yet to taste from the golden cup of battle, they would go first, supported by the 1st Medical Squad, the 1st squad, Alpha company of Texcoco and the 9th Squad, of Tenochitlan. All the others would be held in reserve, to repair and heal wounds sustained so far.

The 9th Squad, taking the lead, in the centre, raced out of the siege camp. The first line of men, upon reaching the walls, would crouch and raise their shields for the remaining numbers of the squad to leap from over the walls. Blue feathered madmen rained down upon the defenders crouching behind the low walls, hand to hand combat ensued, with the 9th claiming victory and retiring to the acclaim of their fellow warriors. The Experienced 1st Medical division, taking a flanking course to the left of the 9th, used the same tactics. Leaping upon the defenders, they surgically dispatched them, and retired from the field, leaving honour to be claimed by others.

The 1st Squad, Alpha Company of Texcoco, claiming the right flank, launched its long awaited assault. They had the worst of the battle, being fresh, untried troops, sustaining 75% causality rates, but winning glory for the squad. For they were the first to be recruited for Texcoco, and had much to live up to to meet the expectations of the citizenry of that Aztec city. The first, is always the grandest, as the saying went, and great legend had been made with the 1st squads of Tenochitlan, who had fallen in the Barbarians wars.

Now the battle was rejoined upon the new day by the 1st Medical squad, they began their day by destroying a defending Archery squad before breakfast. They were worried they would have much work to do during the day. Sure enough, after breakfast, the 4th Squad, overconfident, attacked and suffered and appalling causality rate, being reduced to 0.3 strength out of 7. The 3rd squad, was the next to be selected, they too suffered high rates of attrition, being reduced to 2.1/7 in strength. The Romans, it would seem, had caught onto the Aztec tactics, and devised a way of countering them.

The 6th Squad was next, baying like madmen, swords brandished as the extended claws of the Jaguar, they charged into the city. Fear now gripped the defenders, for their best had fallen to the previous assaults. The defenders of this section of the wall, tried to melt away, but were caught in the streets, and killed where they were found. The bodies left of block the streets, and pollute the waters of the city.

The 10th Squad, 9th, and the 1st Axeman's squads, joined in the slaughter, for truly were the forces of Aztec playing with the defenders. Like a cat playing with a captured mouse, they toyed and tormented the hard pressed defenders, for they were fighting for not only their own lives, but those of their families, possessions and the fair city they called home. To no avail it was though, all 3 squads executed their duties and opponents, then casually strolled back to the camp, to receive the plaudits and praises of their commanders.

925 BC – Calixlahuaca

Calixlahuaca, had now been founded. It was located in the frozen north, with frost bitten troops, having to trudge through the tundra marches, to reach the city site.

Spoiler :

The Holy City Dot Map, had commanded that it be built, to claim the stone and horse within its first ring, and the Gems field, located across the march in its 2nd ring. A Monument, was the 1st building constructed, for with no Memorial to the Mighty Aztec armed forces, how could the city lay a claim to greatness. Workers had dispatched to the city, but they were presently building a paved roadway to the city, once they arrived, the stone resource would be quarried, allowing the building of a stone workers hut, then the horses would be gathered and corralled.

Woe upon woe's was placed upon Texcoco for the 1st Squad of Spears, Alpha Company from Tenochitlan, had fallen to a marauding barbarians Column. Comprised of 8 Javelineers and 1 Archer. 1st Squad Spears, from Tenochitlan, had managed to defeat the first wave of the Archers, and then three successive waves of the Javelineers, but eventually fell to the sustained assault of the remaining five Javelineers. Long would their bravery be remembered. A squad of Jaguars, would now have to be sent from the city, to avenge this deed, for no Barbarians may claim fame for the successful killing of the troops of Aztec.

Antium renewed

The defenders, who were now exhausted, could only watch as Blue feathered demons from the forests and jungles, feel from the skies, seemly everywhere. Each day brought more of these demons from the forest, all the night, their calls could be heard, and in the day they appeared for real. Leaping over the walls, killing every last defender of a section of wall, and then mysteriously withdrawing, leaving no dead or wounded to account for the battle, only dead defenders.

Three squads of blue feathered madmen, leapt over the walls or Antium. These walls had afforded protection against the wild beasts, and Barbarians who assailed that city, but to the blue feathered demons, they were nothing. They seemed to take flight over the wall, defenders, and any other opposition to land in the rear with drawn swords brandished like claws. Ripping and beheading with a twirl upon one foot. The afore named now, dance of death.

Now the final assault had come, 4th Squad, had been chosen, to begin the day's activities, they were quickly followed up by the 3rd, and then the 1st squad, Alpha company from Texcoco, Keen to prove their worth. Now it wasn't enough to take the wall, and the lives of the defenders. They now fanned out into the city itself, burning, pillaging, dragging the citizens from their homes. Killing all who would seek to resist, enslaving those who they chose to spare, in some mad random lottery.

Spoiler :

Racing through the city, they eliminated all resistance, looted all that the Roman citizens had built, and called civilisation. Put the Citizens into chains, and put the city to the torch. Not even the great wonders of the Colossus and Petra would stay their hands, always chanting the same mad manta.

[/Chant]

I was reading until I got the impression that you were never going to hit the slightest snag, and that everything was plain sailing - including stomping on the neighbours. It's not that I take delight in the hardships and tribulations of others :mischief:, it's just that steamrollering the globe is not an interesting story to me.

It certainly seems like 'Emperor' is not much of a challenge for you. I understand the difficulty of writing a story at the same time as fighting for your life. I can only suggest that in a story you try not to have as much invested in the outcome, as one does when playing otherwise. And of course, a good story doesn't have to have a "happy ending"...

Btw, the writing itself is good (apart from some surprising and consistent spelling problems). I particularly like the humour, and the injections of personality for the various characters and even units. I'm still skimming through, but I'd hardly call it reading I'm afraid...atm.

I, for one, am wholeheartedly enjoying and reading this story.

910 BC – Capital at Texcoco

“Yes, “Atotoztli's enquires of Marcus Aurelius?

Spoiler :

NO PEACE EVER, TILL EVERY ROMAN IS DEAD, OR IN CHAINS

“Hmmm let me think about it, O.K. Hun..”

“O.K. That's enough from me for the moment” Atotoztli pouted, “I'm off to bed for a century or 5, deal with my royal Narrator”

Ragnar, another name had been added to the list, settlement of the homelands would take 1st priority. Elimination of the Roman pestilence, was only a matter to time, either we would find them, or the barbarians would.

Cities must be built, the Holy 32 22 City Dot Map, must be followed.

City planning had been devised

Spoiler :

With this, Irrigation canals could now be build, Tenochitlan alone stood to benefit to the sum of 16:food: alone, with ½ of that, going to waste.

Spoiler :

The Town council was also available to those cities large enough to warrant it.

Spoiler :

Tenochitlan, was the only city, within the Aztec Empire, that could fully take advantage of these new abilities. The needs of settlement of an empire were put on hold to construct these two buildings.

Jaguars fanned out all over the old Roman empire, chanting the same ditty...”Kill the Archers, kill the Lot, Eat the Romans shiny Butt..” Such brutes they were. Some would think it was some Futurama Fantasy scene.

885 BC Sun Tzu's Art of War

Sun Tzu's Art of War had been built in the foreign darkness of the world.

Spoiler :

This world wonder, gave a 50% reduction to the upgrade cost of units, and an increase in the emergence of Great Generals. Most likely built by a warmongering civilisation. It was of no matter, for costs of upgrades meant nothing, with 10K In the bank and Great Generals, while nice, could only be used in war, and one at a time if Great Commanders, when attached to units they invariably lost at some RIDICULOUS HIGH ODDS all the time. Better to merge into a Military city for highly promoted units.

The Barbarian settlement of Parthian, was came across, in the search for the Roman pestilence, and destroyed, with some of the secrets of Fermentation looted from the city. (Tech Diffusion at work)

870 BC Roman dogs found

The hated Roman dogs, had been found. Right where their master had left them. The Jaguar squads were overjoyed at this find, for battle would be joined again, and the last of the Roman pestilence would be eliminated finally from this world.

Being Green troops, eager for the fight, and having missed out on the opportunities given at Antium. The 10th Squad, Jaguars from Tenochitlan, rushed into he fight, with only the support of a wounded flanking squad of the 9th. So inspired were they by the 9th's exploits, they charged up the wooded hillside, putting to use their advanced training in woodsman skill 3, and cover 2 from archers.

Seizing upon the opportunities afforded by a patrolling Javelineers squad, they proceeded to Decimate the squad, in the finest Roman tradition. Such valour, and ability to seize opportunities, never went unrewarded in the Aztec armed forces, they were given a battlefield promotion.

Spoiler :

The 10th were having it all to themselves. No thought was given to the other squads, running at breakneck pace through the woods to the battlefield. They had single handily dispatched 3 Roman squads of Archers, and still they hungered for more.

For the 1st Medical squad, having finally made the mad dash to the scene, now joined in the fray, and claimed a Roman squad banner for their collection.

S.P.Q.R. the joke of the Aztec barracks.

Squid – No backbones.
Pansy – Sweet smelling in the chains of Aztec masters.
Quitter – Running from any fight put to them.
Rabbits – To run and hide in their holes, behind walls.

S.M.A.S.H.
Slaves,
Merit,
Armour,
Servitude,
Honour,

these were the Aztec way.

850 BC – Rome is destroyed

Finally the Roman Pestilence was gone, largely due to the efforts of the 10th Squad, late in coming to the battle of Antium, they had proven themselves on the forest hills, outside of the old Roman city.

With the belated support, of other ravenous Jaguar units, they had eliminated the Squids, as they were Derogatorily called by the Aztec Jaguars. Piece by piece, they had picked, gnawed, dissected and decimated the Roman column. Fear ran amok in the Roman camp, for any who were sent to patrol the surrounding leagues, had only a 50% chance of even being heard from again.

All that was ever found, was the bloody and torn bodies of the unfortunate soldiery. The rumours of the Jaguar squads, found fertile ground, and not before long, discipline had deserted the Romans. Night after Night, Jaguars would creep into the camp, decimate the Romans and then disappear, with no trace of their coming.

Spoiler :

In the end, a full frontal assault, by 10th Squad, finally eliminated the Last Roman stragglers.

Now, only Barbarian suppression duty awaited the Jaguar squads. Forlornly they trudged back to the cities of the Aztec, away from their beloved forests and jungles.

795 BC Canal systems

The methods of running water through canals, had now been researched by Atotoztli's inner committee. Draining of the swamps, irrigation across the lands, food in abundance for the Aztec peoples. For with this technology, the production of the river land tiles of Aztec, would increase by +1:food:.

Spoiler :

Building of great Aqueducts, to the Health Benefits. Water would flow uninterrupted for many leagues across the lands of the Aztec, for truly are we the chosen peoples of this world.

Spoiler :

The Pont Du gard, was commissioned in 1st Squad to be built. This would provide 1 health per city, all over the empire.

690 BC – Piazza San Marco

Nb: This is a HUGE wonder to have, it should be gotten at all costs, of course, I delayed it for many turns, then had to rush build it with a stream of Caravans. It gives you a FREE market, in every city. EVERY CITY. That can be absolutely huge in benefit. P.S. Its doesn't register properly in the F2 finance screen, shows only markets you've built before hand, but the effect does work.

Atotoztli's gold rate, jumped from a languishing 31/cycle, to a healthy 51/cycle. This could only be increased with the building of more cities, which was now resumed.

The Barbarians seem to have gotten hold of the iron working technology. As Atotoztli had been told by the creator of this world, that once 70% of the contestants of this world had a technology, it would be passed onto the barbarians for exploitation.

(Doh, I nearly forgot a most important building with machinery, The Tread Mill Crane.)

Spoiler :

This building, very cheap at 150 :hammers: gives a 15% boost to all building construction. Atotoztli will be most pleased, for production is the way of the Aztec.

610 BC – Xochicalco founded

The new city of Xochicalco is founded, the 4 defensive units are re-named after the city, and two groups of workers begin the improving of the grounds. The 1st Build is the Treadmill crane, as this will speed up all building builds by 15%.

590 BC – Engineering and Caste system

Both Engineering

Spoiler :

and Caste system were discovered this turn,

this is a feature of multiple research at work. Also where you can learn part of a tech up to the last beaker, by taking cities off a Civilisation, that has researched this technology. Also, with Technology diffusion, the further behind in a technology race you are, the cheaper they become.

Engineering has been been changed, with Crossbows being moved to this technology, Castles are still here, they provide a 50% defence bonus, and a 20% defence bonus V's siege weapons. The reality is still the same, bombardment of castles is recommended before assault. With the building of a castle, numerous other building will become available,is expanded castles option is selected. These can be dungeons, spy bonuses, a 25% minimum defence level, before an assault may take place, and others. It also allows the Great Wonder of the Edinburgh's Castle great wonder with 4 castles built, which acts as another administrative centre, reducing maintenance from nearby cities.

520 BC – Aristocracy

Aristocats had been enabled, fat slovenly people who would live the work of others, a right of birth, and not merit had been established. Fat, Greasy, slovenly, spoilt... errr

Aristocracy, The system of government, where the landed and wealthy, made the decisions for the peasantry,

Spoiler :

and Nobility were enabled

Spoiler :

The Aztec empire, has no need of others to rule, Atotoztli's rule is benevolent for all.

475 BC – Nebuchadrezzar II

Nebuchadrezzar II has been born, but as we had not adopted Judaism, no one was exiled. A great and honoured general from the barbarians wars, who constantly assailed our fair lands. He was held over, with the intent of merging into Texcoco, set as the Military city, as the capital was designated to be moved there. Now all future military units produced in the city, will have an extra 2 points of experience from the advanced training provided by NebuchadRezzar (not N, BUT R)

450 BC – Tlacopan

The city of Tlacopan, was settled in 450 BC. The most notable thing about this city, is that it was settled upon a marsh. You may only settle upon marsh land, when it is adjacent to a fresh water source. This city was settled according to the mantra of the Holy 32 22 City Dot Map.

425 BC – New Rome

The City of New Rome was founded, a fine relocation of the old Roman Capital, it had the much lauded 7 hills, Marble resource, for use by the sculptors of the city. Silk, wine and a pre-built mine in the 2nd ring, a fine addition to the Aztec empire.

With the settling of New Rome, a Barbarian encampment had been sighted, 1 league to the West of the ruins of Rome. They called this collection of hovels, Uzbek, and a crude combination of dwellings it was. Consulting the Holy 32 22 City Dot Map, it was deemed to be an offence to the organised setting of the Northern Hemisphere, and was to be eradicated. Over joyed Jaguars were pulled from their ignominious duties of barbarian suppression, and directed to eradicate this offence to the Holy 32 22 City Dot Map.

The Barbarians hovel, that was called Uzbek, was burnt to the ground, two groups of slaves were taken to commemorate the occasion, and to serve as a warning to other barbarians who might try to settle cities with the bounds of the Holy 32 22 City Dot Map.

415 BC – Plague strikes Tlatelolco

Disaster has struck the city of Tlatelolco, plague has been brought to the city, the city elders suspected the Roman slaves, who'd been brought to the city from the conquests. Much gold had to be spent, the total sum expended was 315 gold, to bring the plague under control. Unfortunately 3,000 (3pts) of the citizens of the city, were stuck down by the plague, before the city fathers could bring in emergency medical procedures. But in doing so, they had stopped further loss of life, and the spreading of the plague to other cities of the empire.

385 BC – Vassalage

Vassalage,

Spoiler :

has been researched, not that the down trodden proletariat of the Aztec empire, needed to be indentured to the land any more. This also allows the world wonder of Himeji Samurai Castle

Spoiler :

to be built. This wonder stops all enemy pillaging within your cultural borders. A great wonder for all the Cottagephiles out there, but cottages are only good for Pillaging, not for the great Aztec Empire.

363 BC – Hero's of the Sword

The Hero's of the Sword, whilst patrolling the outer boundaries of the Aztec empire, came across 2 escaped slaves, from the chains of the Aztec.

Spoiler :

Seeing their opportunities, they rushed forth to recaptured the escaped slaves, and set an example, that no slave may escape the chains of the Aztec.

Upon the capture of the escaped slaves, another Barbarian city, was uncovered in the dark wilds, the city of Assyrian. The Holy 32 22 City Dot Map, was consulted, and the city of Assyrian, though it was Population 3, was found to breach the doctrine, as was to be exterminated.

To further the horrors, the city of Assyrian, was found to be aiding and abetting the escape of slaves from the Aztec Empire. A 5th escaped worker, was found to be taking refuge in the city environment, and had to be recaptured by the Hero's of the Sword. For now the city of Assyrian was doubly doomed.

327 BC – Atzcapolzalco

Atzcapolzalco was founded, a city of renown, for it had Pigs and Tea in its first ring, and irrigated corn would be located in its 2nd ring. This city had been designated as the future capital of the Northern continent, and would be made such, once further settlement was made. The city would have to develop first, before any movement of the capital could be entertained.

Spoiler :

315 BC

Atotoztli's spirit, having tired of Tenochitlan, decided to move the capital to Texcoco.
The holy 32 22 City Dot Map, had commanded the building of 32 22 cities, and this site was the best interim site to choose for the further development of the Aztec empire. Movement did cause a rise in costs, but with the building of further cities, these costs, would be lessor than the expected costs, keeping the capital were it was.

Spoiler :

4 Cities had been settled according to the Holy 32 22 City Dot Map, with only 1 city providing the Settlers. Atotoztli wasn't pleased, she wanted more cities, more crushing of the economics of the empire. For now, she directed, that the mature cities of the empire, would begin the colonisation of the North. For Aztec, shall reign in a homogeneous society.

315 BC – 1 AD Review

Escaped slaves continued to be recaptured. For some reason, they all would run to the wilds, only to be enslaved by the Barbarians, who abounded in the darkness of this world. Many were greatly relieved to be back in the chains of Aztec, for the barbarians, would only have a lack of food, hygiene, and offered little protection from the wild animals that roamed the darkness.

295 BC – TzinTzunTzen

The city of TzinTzunTzen (try saying that AT ALL) was founded

Spoiler :

A city of Lead, hills in the first ring, a river flowing through the city, with Horses and Improved Corn located in the 3rd Ring. As always, a treadmill crane is the 1st build for the city.

286 BC – Pont Du Gard

The Pont Du Gard has been completed in 1st Squad. Clean waters now flow to the empire. Health of all is boosted, such is the greatness of the Aztec Empire, that many wonders have been commissioned, whilst we seek to colonise the dark reaches of this northern continent.

247 BC – Himeji Samurai Castle

Another great wonder is built, for the mighty Aztec Empire, the Himeji Samurai Castle. With this wonder, no enemies may pillage inside the Aztec Empire. Very useful for a cottage based economy, but really any economy would benefit. No losing mines, or pastures to that random barbarian incursion.

Spoiler :

239 BC – Malinalco and Feudalism

Malinalco is founded,

Spoiler :

A city, founded on the ruined outskirts of Rome. To take advantage of the Holy 32 22 City Dot Map, this city was ordained to be built. Great production and resources would be harvested from this city, with its full development. For not every city could be a Tenochitlan from the very beginning.

Feudalism has also been discovered.

Spoiler :

This enables two civics, Feudal

Spoiler :

and Vassalage

Spoiler :

As well as the civics allowed, it enables the Longbow unit, and the Archery range

Spoiler :

Archery units will start with extra experience with this building. Very worth while, if you plan to use archery units, Longbow's, Crossbows or Archer's as your mainstay defensive units.

235 BC – Jonas Salk

Jonas Salk was born in Tenochitlan, he was merged into the city for a bonus of 12:science:

At the moment, I'm having extreme trouble, actually breaking the economy of the Aztecs. Each time I settle a new city, the gold rate just increases. This is a direct result of having the San Marco Pizza.

I'll try settle more cities, and see how I go, it producing the required level of units that is the problem.

207 BC

More escaped workers continue to be found, another was located just out side of Malinalco, with the 1st Axes squad, losing to the Barbarian spear at odds of 95%. The spear, must have feigned surrender, and when approached, by the 1st Malinalco squad, grabbed secreted weapons and killed that noble squad. Such is the risk of the barbarians.

The esteemed Hero's of the Sword, continue to drape themselves in Glory, having been roaming about the darkness, killing all whom they chance across.

179 BC – Ramesses II

A new contestant for our continent has been found,

Spoiler :

and he's not too happy. Tech wise, we seem to be doing ok, we have some major Military tech's on him, but he has a few others, some small time, the biggest being Philosophy. Ramesses II seems to be a Naghualist at the moment, so if he changes to the religion he's founded, Taoism, I assume, else why beeline Philosophy.

It would seem my roaming 4th Jaguars squad, came across his war Chariot, in the Jungle belt, outside of a barbarian city.

Its of No matter, as I won't engage in southern wars, until the North is a Aztec bastion of Production and culture.

135 BC - Antoine Laurent Lavoirsier

Antoine Laurent Lavoirsier Has been born, He was merged into Tlatelolco, for 9.3 science and 1 hammer bonus.

Another city of Tula

Spoiler :

was settled, on my drive to +20 cities. I can't seem to reduce the gold overflow, it just keeps on increasing. I've gone from +15 at one stage, to +143 now. I just have to settle more remote cities, but my workers can't keep up with the roads, let alone the infrastructure required for each city.

Ragnar,

Spoiler :

Was also located, he's not as advanced as Ramesses II, and has a city settled to the lower band of the jungle, but he's no threat, until he foolishly decides to attack one of my cities.

111 BC – Civil Service

Civil service has been fully researched.

Spoiler :

This technology, still allows the powerful Macemen units, with Copper or Iron deposits.

Civics allowed, are the Bureaucracy Civic

Spoiler :

As we're already in the Senate civic, and that's what I'd choose till the end, when more advanced civics become available, I won't change. I did make a change to Vassalage, mainly to gain the +3 Experience and to reduce maintenance costs from distance.

Another player was found, this would have to be a starting Minor, as I was able to attack them, and not one who's broken off another Civ, it was Jayavaraman. II

Spoiler :

83 BC – Tamiun

The City of Tamium has been founded

Spoiler :

But unfortunately, I lost the city of Tula, to a Random 3 barbarian sword spawn, and I only had 1 Jaguar as its defence. I lost sight of my garrison troops, building so many settlers so quickly.

I'll have to rebuild Tula again...*sigh*

21 BC – Charles De Gual

Charles De Gaul,

Spoiler :

is our next contestant for domination of this Continent. With only 3 cities, he's not really much of a threat. Only having Naval warfare on me, as I haven't even bothered to research it as yet.

15 BC

It would seem that out of spite, like I can see where that relationship is going, the French introduced us to Mehmed II

Spoiler :

Well, that saves me a bit of travel and searching. Nothing of not on us, and we have many tech's on him. I decide to off load the antiquate tech of Literature. Lets see what I can get for it.

Not much, but I did get to meet

Spoiler :

Only Ramesses II has tech's worth trading for, and I really can't be bothered helping him out.

Spoiler :

1AD F1 and Revolution

Having hit 1 AD, I take stock of my empire.

Spoiler :

I've managed to double the number of cities I've settled, to Sixteen. With every city after Xochicalco being newly settled. As can be seen, some of these have just absolutely taken off, and surpassed some older cities. My workers are furiously busy, building the required infrastructure around the new cities, that should take them to Population 10.

Looking at the Revolution index, I've a couple that are relatively high, but as they are newly settled, the revolution index will start high, and quickly fall.

Wonders are being built, still. With the Silk road still being available, and I plan to build Edinburgh's Castle, in one of the newer border cities, as its still available.

I finally may have been able to break the economy, with Gold falling down to 18/turn. This may be partly due to the civics adopted.

As such, I plan to build Edinburgh's Castle in Atzcapolzalco, to gain the maximum benefit for my Eastern border cities. Ramesses II , though a Wonder hog builder, Doesn't seem to have the Technologies necessary, to build what I have.

The Great General count, has been VERY quiet, with only 1 being born just recently. Which I would attribute to the barbarians wars.

All in all, I'm pleased. I am just rushing out cities in the indicated spots. Once all are fully developed, or just with some wealth buildings, my science rate will skyrocket, as it has kept increasing with each city built.

1 AD -315 AD

9 AD - Agricultural tools

This allows increased production from windmills and watermills of +1:food:,of which I have few. But also adds to Wineries, orchards and a few others.

Spoiler :

But it is a pre-requisite for Crop Rotation, that adds +1:food: to farms, of which I have a lot.

It would seem, I've finally succeeded in crashing my economy, I'm now losing -8:gold: per turn, [party]

29 BC – Sakae

The mighty Aztec empire has finally removed the city of Sakae, that festering sore on the skin of the emerging Aztec empire. The only thing of note was recovered from the city was an apiary, which was able to be looted, but little else of value was obtained. All that was achieved, was the opening up of lands for settlement by the Aztec peoples, and removal of a barbarian threat to our ongoing safety.

I made a request of Charles De Gaul, the Gaul of the man, to give me Naval Warfare, for my continued good graces. He saw the merit in the matter, and gladly gave me the technology.

The Silk Road was also completed in Tlatelolco,

Spoiler :

This has now boosted my income from losing 11/turn to now making +35/turn, a marked turn about, I need more cities....

49 AD – Carib

The barbarians hovel of Carib, a collection of 4,000 unwashed, culturally inept, uncouth soles was burnt to the ground, for it did offend the Holy City Dot Map (as amended). Two slave chain gangs were taken to mark the occasion, but no other improvements of note were found. A fully built Sheep pasture outside of the city was retained for a new Aztec city site, with the cottages found Pillaged and destroyed.

The city of Chalco, was built, to honour the Holy City Dot Map (as amended), taking full advantage of the completed Sheep pasture, and mines.

Spoiler :

81 AD – Hsung-Nu

Now didn't I say earlier, that the Barbarians would be able to achieve a level of 7, and evolve into new Civ's.

Here's a classic example, leave them alone long enough, and they'll grow into the required level. So why don't I just leave my troops and wait the evolution.

Because, new civs, will evolve with substantial armies for one city, my troops and cities could end up revolting to their cause and it just complicates matters, when they send spies and explorers all over the map, best to kill as Barbarians.

All I was able to pillage out of Hsung-Nu, was a forge, and claim 1 Chain gang of slaves. City was 2 off coast, and we all know the mantra.

[/Chant]

85 BC – Tlalmanalco and Ixtapaluca

A great day in the Aztec Empire, 2 cities were founded,

Tlalmanalco

Spoiler :

And Ixtapaluca

Spoiler :

More wealth, prestige and citizens for the Aztec Empire. For now, citizens were queuing up to join up with the settling bands, to build these new cities. For they had seen how quickly they would develop, the infrastructure was being built by the slave chain gangs of the empire. Much luxury was to be found, and to be the founding Fathers and Mothers of a city, such prestige was rarely found in the developed cities of the empire.

105 AD – Crop Rotation

Crop Rotations, has been fully researched, this gives a boost of +1 food per farm, not bad considering I have 83 farms so far, with many many more to be built, over 200 at least I'm aiming for. At the moment, its a boost of 83 food, for the empire at an average of 4 per city.

Spoiler :

109 BC – Bactrian

The Barbarian hovel of Bactrian, was taken this cycle. Nothing of interest was learnt from the inhabitants, with 2 slaves being taken to mark the victory. With nothing of interest being learnt, I now know that I'm either the technology leader, or close to it, at 0% research rate.

Had to do a bit of adjusting to the Holy City Dot Map (as amended), the east is a big of a wasteland of open spaces and wasted resources. Lots of forts will be required to fore-fill the Aztec Destiny.

146 AD – Philosophy

Philosophy had been researched, wise sages roamed the empire, espousing philosophy, tenets and dogma's to the peoples. Adoption of the Pacifism civic, whilst it has its benefits, is not what is suitable for the empire at the moment.

173 AD – Plague

The plague is back, the importation of some many barbarian slaves from our conquests, has brought this pestilence to our fair empire. If we Bemoan the knowledge of Medicine, 4,000 (4pts) of population will die from the plague, and some nearby cities, will be reduced by 2,000 (2pts) in population.

Spoiler :

By spending what ever is necessary, the Mighty Aztec empire, will only lose 3, 000 (3pts) in Tlatelolco, and no other cites would be affected. The cost of this is only 453 gold, considering the growth rates, and the gold influx, with my gold balance of over 20K, its a small cost.

182 AD – Bulgar

The barbarian city, really just a collection of plague houses, has been taken by the mighty Aztec forces of empire. The Holy City Dot Map (as amended), was consulted, and it was found that there was no way that the city could be kept, and keep our covenant with the Holy City Dot Map (as amended).

Spoiler :

So the 'city' was put to the torch. A apiary, butcher and a fire pit were looted, with two chain gangs of slaves taken, to mark the victory. All the out lining cottages were pillaged, to provide loot for the troops.

194 AD – Huexotla

The planned city of Huexotla, was founded, a southern coastal city, with a river, hills and fitting into the grand plan of the Holy City Dot Map (as amended).

Smithing was researched the next turn,

Spoiler :

This would allow for the upgrading of the Jaguar units to 10:strength: sword units, but still retain the jungle movement that they are renowned for.

239 AD – Tepexpan

Tepexpan has been founded, up to 21 cities now, with a few more to come online.

Spoiler :

251 AD – Al-Kindi

Al-Kindi was born into Tenochitlan, and was merged into the city for 12.9 science boost.

266 AD – Tepetlaoxtoc

Tepetlaoxtoc was founded on the East Coast, finally I have a Coast to Coast empire, one that will span the ages. Trouble is the east coast is going to be settled rather sparsely, and will need a number of forts, to fog bust the vacant area's.

Spoiler :

Chiconautla was also founded this cycle, with the draining of a swamp, upon which the Holy City Dot Map (as Amended) decreed its building.

Spoiler :

A city in the Tundra, but containing a grassland Iron in its first ring.

275 AD – Sanitation

Sanitation had been researched, clean streets are now available, no more sewerage flowing through the gutters and being thrown out the windows, hence the popularity of the parasols.

Spoiler :

305 AD – Coyotepec

The fine city of Coyotepec was settled.

Spoiler :

This city will be the Jumping off point for my invasion of the Southern Continent. I just have 1 more planned Tundra city to settle, then its build them all up. I'm up to 25 Cities now, and still haven't broken the slider as yet. As more cities develop, the slider keeps going further and further into the green.

305 AD – Southern lands mapped

The southern lands have been mapped, and for what has been revealed to me, great offence did I take at some of the city placements for it is decreed that
[/Chant]

Some cities must be burnt, some Capitals were able to be kept, due to the most holy of covenants. Much is the Beauty of the river city I did see, but much is of a waste, and must be laid as such.

Spoiler :

For the Vikings, would be the first to feel our Holy wrath, for breaching the Covenant of the Holy Dot Map. For we must launch a Crusade to rid the world of all unbelievers, and affirm the supremacy of the Holy Dot Map (as amended).

315 AD - Empire Review

Time to do an empire wide review, for I do hear Atotoztli awakening,

Technologies, I decided to clean up four technologies on offer, I first demanded horse breeding of Mehmed.

Spoiler :

I then extorted Seafaring off of Ramesses II

Spoiler :

I then purchased two technologies on offer for a total of 1400 gold or so. The first was shipbuilding for 800+ gold from Ramesses II

Spoiler :

The final one was Aesthetics from Ragnar for 500+gold

Spoiler :

I probably should just have extorted most of them, with shipbuilding needing seafaring, so I was always going to have to buy that one.

Economics

on the Economics front, I seem to have crashed the economy again?? somehow I'm now -52 gold in the Red??

Spoiler :

Must have obsoleted a building last turn, notice I only have 1 Market showing, but I have a market in every city. The Plaza San Marco wonder, doesn't show up properly here.

Foreign Adviser

Only Ramesses II has Technologies on me now, and they are mainly the Horse based Technologies, that the AI's seem to love so much.

Spoiler :

Domestic front

On the domestic front, I have 92 Active workers in 23 groups of 4, with three settling groups heading to city cites, or awaiting instructions.

Cities I now have 25 Cities,

Spoiler :

with only 5 what I would consider fully developed core cities of Empire. All the others are either just developing (15 Cities) or partially mature 5. Still a lot of upside to my empire.

The revolution index, is under control,

Spoiler :

With the ones increasing in index value, newly developed cities, that are yet to have the religious building inserted as yet. I was so fixated on Empire development, building settling groups, that I haven't had time to build Caravans to rush the religious buildings. That will now change, with settling group building curtailed, and caravan's now priority No 1.

World Wide Wonders screen (WWW)

It would seem, that our continent is easily the most advanced, with most of the wonders being built.

Spoiler :

Either the Wonder hog, Ramesses II, or myself. Ramesses has built them mainly in 2 cities, his core cities, where I have spread them about. Between the 2 of us, we have 19/25 Wonders built.

Info Screen

The info screen makes for some interesting reading, I've raised much more cities than 6, its just when you abandon them, they aren't counted as being raised, as I have 9 city ruins, with a couple built over.

Spoiler :

Building 28 Settlers, I did lose one city, to a random spawn of three swords, onto a city guarded only by a Jaguar city raider. Three setting groups are out and about, somewhere, I think I lost track of one, I kept on doubling up city sites at one point.

Demographics, I'm Number one in the top six, apart from gold, where I'm Number two, seems we have a monster on the other continent. They should fall apart soon enough. All the others, I'm at least double if not at Triple their ratings.

Spoiler :

Finally a shot from the flying Camera of my Aztec Home lands,

Spoiler :

South as a Comparision

Give a shot of the core home lands, some out lying cities aren't detailed too well, but 95% is contained.

I must go, for the Great one, Atotoztli is awaking.

These are some pretty large updates :wow:

As I said, the resolution used is 1610x1050.

I have a 22" monitor, which shouldn't matter, but the resolution will.

I think having it spoiled, allows it to be amended to your screen size?? if not...well, I'm playing, your reading..so :p

Sorry, UPDATES...my appologies....

Large updates, not that much for small ones, and no story came to mind to write to lessen the update.

Its just been; spam out settling groups, 2x Archers/Longbows, 1x Crossbow,1x Pike, 1x Axe/Mace, 4xWorkers,1xTrade cart,1xSettler,1xOracle

Burn a Barbarian city, blah blah, no great wars..they are yet to come, Oh Ragnar!!!!

No more, I'm calling an end to it all.

I had to re-install my operating system, and I didn't save my data with a recent update, the only one I had was from 2 weeks ago, and that save is only 515 BC. Too much game play, too much that could alter.

Besides, I've played at the wrong speed, its going to be a cake walk, and serves no instructional format now, just steam rolling.

I am sorry if you wanted more, but that outlines my strategy. I did play some more turns, and within 2 I was 40 :gold: in credit, after settling a new city, so my economy was only going to sky-rocket, from there.

Basically, I would have built up the new lessor cities, while killing Ragnar as an opportunistic snack. Then I would have feasted on the remaining civs' one by one. I'd have 1st sent in multiple spies to scout out lands, but it was all over.

Basically, wrong speed, too big a map, an no real challenge offered.

I played till Muskets in 875 AD or so.

I've concurred the whole continent, killed off all the AI's, De Gaul, didn't even last 10 turns, Mehmed lasted 20, as I made peace for 10 for his world map. The one who gave me the most trouble was Ramesses, but only because, I was still funnelling my army there for most of the war. In the end, I had 3 times the troops I'd actually needed.

Total cake walk, once I upgraded all my troops, long bows, bows, maces, pikes, swords and Arbisquiers to Muskets, I had too many to control.
