#2 is correct, if you picked it.

This is almost always my first priority tech, rather than the so commonly worshipped Bronze Working. I don't always have an animal to pasturize in my capital, but there is always one in range of a great city spot it seems. Horses allow for a better anti-barbarian unit than copper does, and while copper troops are almost always better than chariots for fighting a real civ, I don't like doing that really early even on Emperor. Slavery was really nerfed in BtS. Chopping's pretty sweet, but I tend to have some tiles to work with my first worker (which takes several turns to appear himself) before I want to do it.

I don't build any horse units till knights anyway. Nor do I ever use slavery. And I prefer to keep those forests unless i'm expansive.

My first priority is a religion followed by BW, (if no copper) IW, techs to connect resources, Priesthood aand I just go from there.

Slavery is an amazing civic choice, especially for spiritual leaders so that they don't lose a turn to anarchy. I really like starting with english (fishing + mining) and rerolling the map until I get 2-3 sea resources, then tech BW while making a workboat, and pumping out a second fast work boat with slavery (the food you lose from pumping out the second WB is made up quickly enough by the extra food from quicker sea resources).

I thought "What the heck could AH be in cIV?"

Perhaps something related to the AP, that annoying thing that could be mitigated a bit by the UN

I love waging early war against rival Civs, so I try to hook up copper/iron ASAP. How was Slavery nerfed in BtS? It seems just as crazy as it's ever been to me.

Medium upkeep, opens up the possibility of an extremely painful random event as long as you are running it.

I always go AH first if i have the appropriate resource in my capital. I still think slavery is awesome though; not a big nerf.

I only ever go after Animal Husbandry early if I have some sort of animal that needs a husband in my first city. Otherwise, there are several other more important techs. Depending on the Civ I choose, my top 3 favorite Techs to go after first are masonry, bronze working, or polytheism. Masonry for the wonders, Bronze Working for duhh, chopping, slavery and axes. Polytheism because it gets me one closer to the Oracle (and a religion is nice too). So in my opinion, there is no animal husbandry debate.... Unless your Mongolia of course, in which case, it's automatic.

I don't work in general terms. I take all games on a case-by-case basis because (unlike some people) I don't regenerate maps until I get a specific start.

I go for AH first more often than I do for Bronzeworking, simply because there seems to be an unusual preponderance of animals wherever I play the game. 4 Animal Resources on the table = AH for me. It's just too good not to get.

To be sure, Bronzeworking and chopping wood is nice and everything, but at that stage in the game, an improved Cow or Pig tile provides practically as much benefit, and it doesn't use up the wood, and it's a lasting advantage.

When I start queuing up the Wonders and growing my cities, THEN I want to have BW on board.

In other matters, I don't see the point in regenerating the map until you get a specific start. I suppose it would be fun for a good while, but wouldn't that eventually get boring? The reason I play Civ is partly for its replayability - I get all kinds of crazy maps every time I roll the dice.

If you regenerate the map each time, wouldn't it just make more sense to use Map Editor to tool the map just right the first time?

... I guessed Animal Husbandry, and I usually only prioritize it as Mongol or Persia, or if I'm drowning in animals and start with a prereq.

silly me, i thought it was Auction House.

too much WoW....

... How I do know that feeling, even though it's half a year ago.

Precicesly why I never run it anymore. I have chosen to hate the civic instead of the random events.

Albert Hall. It gives you a place to store your holes.

Um... Apostolic Palace.. clearly. This is BtS after all. There's no debate about Animal Husbandry and no one calls Hitler AH.

As for animal husbandry, BW should come first in MP. In SP you can do anything you like.

cows are the best tile to me. if i see them in my capital fatcross, i rush to worker & AH.

Maybe it is just me but I remember a thread with the exact same title about 2 or 3 months ago...

Exactly, it was about Adolf Hitler, but some of the posters actually looked in the thread because they thought of Animal Husbandry - so that the title is called the same is no accident, it's intertextuality

Wow, what a fine word.
