So, I am playing a game, as the Maya, on flexible difficulty.
In the late game, I am in the lead on the scoreboard, but probably 2-3 techs behind the tech leaders, and a little bit behind militarily. But doing well -- esp. considering the difficulty is now ratcheted up to Diety.
I am at peace with everyone, hit the next turn button when I hear massive trumphets of war. The English declare war on me with all of their vassals (who all border me). The English are virtually my equal (along with the Romans, Carthagenians, and Mongolians).
They sneak attack with their gunships everywhere (bastards!), and then start lobbing nukes my way. They sent 10 over, fortunately (?) only 3 made it thru. Great defenders of the Mayan race shooting down those nukes.
At the end of the attack when it was my turn, I got up to get something to drink -- it is going to be a long war afterall. Then something hit me as I was coming back to my computer. I look at the calendar date.

The AI cannot possibly be -this- smart.
