I like Germany because you start with so many options. There is a lot of free land before Russia come, you have 3 really good independent cities below you, waiting to be taken over, the ability to control the whole of Europe and even colonisation options.

I like Arabia on the 600AD start for the reasons you mention. I normally plow through the independents to India and then turn my attention westward.

    My LEAST favorite civs are:
    -Mali: Not enough UHV variety
    -Aztec: Boring
    -Maya: Boring
-China: I got China'd out a long time ago (never got the UHV)
-Arabia: I got Arabia'd out a long time ago (never got the UHV)

    I chose Portugal.

    I. I like colonization.
II. I find taking USUALLY small civs and make them one of the greatest.
III. I like Mayans but not Aztecs or Malinese.
IV. It has just the right amount conquest to me.
    V. I's UHV:s are relatively easy (In original, harder in DoC etc.).

    My 3 Favorites:

#1 - Portugal - Just VERY Fun! UHV and everything. Also, I like small civs.
#2 - Greece - I love wonder spamming! Also has a good UHV to my liking.
#3 - Netherlands - UHV perfectly fits my liking. Also, I like small civs.

Portugal, but I hate it when Spain decides it's time for me to die.

I chose Netherlands because I love dikes...easily my favourite of the unique buildings...only the Arabian madrassas run it close for me. Honourable mentions have to go to Japan and Ethiopia though as I've ended up with some enormous japans and find a very controlled whipping technique quite fun for ethiopia.

America currently. It's fun to start close to the Industrial Era and have so much land to settle. Some of their city sites are amazing. And it's fun to kick all those annoying Europeans out of the Americas ;)

Persia is my favourite, as the terrible starting land and weak neighbours forces you to expand, the UU can capture cities and hold off barbarians, and the UP makes conquering a breeze.

EDIT: Having looked at the results I think it's a testament to Rhye that there is no one clear favourite, it shows a well balanced and varied scenario.

Although there's reason to suspect Japan is Rhye's favorite.

Still having the most fun with Vikings, so many ways to go about it once you realise that some eggs must be broken for that godly UA to earn its keep.

If I do not want to play historically, and UHV are not important for me, so the best civ's are:

1). USA for wonderfully growth in Nort America and future domination on World, but, there is a lot of time to wait for their spawn and take controll. I want to play with them from 3000 BC in ancient era, but I still can not do this (I am not the best programmist to change the core files).

2). Rome - for a good start moment, great soldiers (legions), and big place to conquests. Just do not place cities in france/spain/german core zone. We can get Athens, Byzantion, Carthago, Egypt and Babylon, and next, other cities in medieval era (after european civs spawn).

3). China for a good place to conquests, and very fast production of soldiers.

4). Greece/Japan - if we want to play peacefully, and concentrate on economic and technology.

I also like to play with Persia, Russia, Germany. Also India is interesting, but little hard to playing.

Maya on Viceroy can be fun. With their UP you can become the dominant power in the world with a Civ that survival should be a challenge. There are only a few guidelines for this.

    1. Shock Longbows ASAP. You can't get Iron and use it fast enough to beat the Dogs.
    2. Aztecs live for 10 turns.
    3. Emphasize settling North, not South. New Orleans, Chicago, Denver and you're set!
    4. In case you mess up Workboat denial of conquerors, don't cut the Jungle to the NE. Conquerors will just sit there.
    5. Meet Europe before they meet you. Plague control.

    1) Spain: Just love the expansion into the new world. Lots of land and a good starting location.
    2) Ottomans: Situated right in the middle of Europe Asia and Africa; lots of room to expand and plenty of good land in any direction. All in all u can control 5 others civs cores.
    3) Rome: Epic combination of expansion, wonders and growth.
    4) Arabia: If you know what you are doing u will easily be the world power for a long time. Starting location isnt good but the UP is epic.

I really have to say that I do like America on the world map AS LONG as you take care and confront the Aztec problem by settling the East Coast and to the Rockies before they can so you can build up your infrastructure and build a much stronger more technologically advanced nation then them. Also if you settle in South America for resources you can really become a major trader to the old worlders when they come

I would love to know the 5 people who chose Egypt and hear their reasons for it.

I've played Egypt many, many times and I don't feel it is the "most enjoyable" civ out there or even close. Any civ where my cities are turned into size 1 because of the plague while Impis are rushing in from the middle of the Sahara isn't my idea of "most enjoyable"

Though I voted for America, looking back there are about 6-8 different civs I could've made a strong case for. Egypt wasn't one of them. I'd love to hear the reasons though. Is it the survival challenge or the UHV?
