Well with the nations most well known media baron taking a step back to run the nations highest court perennial Judge Advocate Candidate Mhcarver saw his chance to become Fannatania’s next great Media Baron. Upon setting up shop in Fannatania Carver began to set up the Camelot times, the nations second newspaper. Though he new he didn’t have Provolution’s writing skills he knew that the people believed what the press told them and as a former casino director in a far of reality called “Japanatica” he knew how to pull some very cheap tricks. The first being that instead of actually reporting everything himself he realized he could make boatloads by getting help and not just writing all the articles himself.

Term 2 election coverage/analysis)
Election Analysis
Overall
Despite quite few uncontested elections the elections for the second Government in our great nations history. The election can be seen as a referendum on the nations next military actions, primarily because though there seems to be an agreement that the nation wishes to go to war with one of our obnoxious continental neighbors , its unclear who gets to join the great nation first. The candidates for major expansion related offices broke off into two clusters, Dutch first and India first. The Dutch first candidates achieved a significant victory by winning elections to the Commander of the Armed Forces, however India First candidate Mad-Bax easily won election as Consul of External policy possibly due to the mistaken endorsement of Military leader CivGeneral. Though polling has been done on the issue expect the early part of this term to largely focus on preparing for our nations first war.

Presidency
Incumbent President Daveshack easily won re-election from the growing nation of Fannatania. This was not a very shocking surprise seeing as to no candidates had emerged to challenge the popular incumbent for the spot as leader of the Government that he helped to create. Almost former candidate Civanator, a reclusive militarist did not reply to attempts by the President to nominate him and a character known as nobody(Head of the legitimate Businessmen’s club) declined to instead pursue a fruitless campaign for consul of external policy. The President can also link his popularity to being a founding father and quasi-wartime President as the nation prepares for a continental campaign to right the wrong of not owning enough land or resources , or as the President himself put it, “to raise our nation from mediocrity to dominance”

Resource and Technology Consul
Deputy Consul RegentMan defeated second time candidate truckingpete by a nearly 2-1 margin in order to secure a promotion. RegentMan ran is most well known for his avid campaign against spending public funding on “Philosophy” a strange idea that some believe will lead to enlightenment. Because of public support for the research he will likely be unable to undo the move to study philosophy. He also advocated future study of a strange technique that far away travelers and sages have called “Map Making”. Regent was also a supporter of the Dutch war first but it is unclear how much influence his office will have over that.

Judiciary
Well, the court appears to be gearing up for an interesting term. Controversial and well known Public Defender Ravensfire left the bench and was replaced by Chief Justice Black_Hole , who cited challenges and general frustratopm as reaspms for leaving as CJ. However , in an interesting twist of Judiciary critic, Culture Minister, and media baron Provolution , who is known for his many attempts to re-organize the Government defeated long time rival and former Public Defender candidate Blackheart to become the next chief justice. Provolution ran a campaign based mainly on providing an impartial judiciary and not proposing any amendments. In the Judges Advocate race , Incumbent Ashburnham defeated perennial candidate Mhcarver for the second time, though this time by much more than the 34%-30% margin that separated the two the previous term. This terms court should be interesting as Public Defender elect and outgoing CJ Black_Hole endorsed CJ elect provolutions opponent and said “He won’t mess around with the constitution”. Look for an interesting term in the court.

Culture Consul
In the Culture Consul race Domestic Consul Moth won a tight race over Culture Secretary Xerol. The consisted of little campaigning by either candidate after the opening of election threads. The primary difference between the two was there strategy for achieving a “culture victory” with Moth favoring building up settlers loyal fannatians and using military might while Xerol favored building large numbers of magnificent structures called “wonders” to awe our enemies.

Director of Infrastructure
In a race with very little fanfare or debate Incumbent Chieftess defeated External Consul Deputy Ulyaoth by a 58-41% margin . Ulyaoth, who was nearly elected External consul before term 1 , led the well known incumbent on several occasions.

Consul of Domestic Policy
In this race Governor Ginger_Ale defeated Citizen YNCS by a narrow margin of 52-47% in a race that saw several ties and lead changes. Both candidates were amazingly similar and ran on almost identical platforms, meaning that Ginger Ales experience as Governor the previous term likely gave him name recognition and one or two more votes. Both Candidates were willing to commit a single city to the building of wonders, were wary of trying to win over our enemies with our culture and each favored some degree of expanding the empire using our sea-faring capabilities.

Director of Expansion
Incumbent Director Snipelfritz easily won re-election over an unkown opponent with 72% of the vote. The only campaign pledge made by the incumbent was that all for a strategy of surrounding our enemies cities and “flipping” them to us.

Director of Commerce
In a race with practically no contest at all Incumbent Octavian X won a second term uncontested. After winning the race Octavian X laughed at the nations citizenry for letting him win so easily twice.

Governor of Fanashire
In another lackluster race , Lieutanant Governor Noldodan won an uncontested election to fill the slot left by outgoing Governor/Domestic Minister elect Ginger_Ale.

Dear Sir,

There has been much talk about impending war with our neighbouring countries and I would like to put forward the considered view of the External Consul regarding this important matter.

Our empire needs to expand. The primary inhibitor to this is the Dutch expansion. This is clear. The Indians are locked in a corner and pose little threat to us. So why then should we go to war with them before the Dutch? It is counter-intuitive. However, there are good reasons and I list them below.

1. War against the Indians will be easier than war against the Dutch, since they are weaker.

2. We can secure our iron near Delhi on the first turn, and remove the flip risk that Bentley represents now.

3. We can secure a second luxury quicker (6 turns of war) and thus reduce our slider earlier.

4. The indian war will be very short, and we can gain all we need to gain by capturing only 2 cities.

5. Since we do not need the Northern Indian cities right now, a peace deal will allow us to catch up in tech if we need to.

6. The two Indian cities targeted will not be razed. Thus we save the time and shields required to re-settle these sites.

7. Once we have captured the 2 Indian cities, our army will be poised to strike at the Dutch core, rather than at less important outlying cities. We can disassemble the Dutch empire from the inside out. This means their productive cities will die first, and their iron will be disconnected early, making the rest of the war easier, and shorter.

8. Attacking the Dutch first means mounting our attack from the outside in, and consequently we will be attacking the weaker, less important cities first.

9. Attacking the oulying cities first means that more cities will be autorazed at size 1 and therefore we will need to build settlers to fill the void. This takes time, and we could just replace the problem of the Dutch filling our space with the Chinese filling our Space. If that happens we will have a problem. We cannot fight the Chinese yet - for all sorts of reasons that I won't list here.

10. The outlying Dutch cities will not be building big ticket items like wonders and markets. Once threatened, these cities will whip spears. This means that not only will we have to defeat more units, but we will also autoraze even more cities.

11. By Attacking the Dutch from the outside in, it means that their core will be operational for longer. Their core will be capable of building swords at a rate that we cannot match. As a result we will face even more units.

12. If we take the small cities and leave the big cities, at the end of the war the Dutch will not be very much weakened. Their core will be in tact. They will still have iron. They will still have spices, and we won't. Our gain will be minimal.

13. By destroying the smaller Dutch cities, when we make a peace treaty we will not be able to take Dutch cities in the deal. They will not give them up.

Overall, taking on the Dutch first is the obvious choice because they pose the threat. But once you scratch the surface you can only come to realise that this would be tactically naive and we would not gain nearly as much, nor would we cause nearly as much grief to our opponents. A vote for a Dutch war is a vote for no silks, for no spices and for no additional sources of iron and horses. A vote for the Dutch war is vote for a smaller empire, with an even more dangerous neighbor (the Chinese) and the promise of more difficult wars in the near future against Swiss Mercenaries and the resourceless Elephant unit. Wars against either of these units will trigger the opponents GA's and the cost will be high.

There is no redeeming argument for a Dutch war before India. The game will turn on it. I guess if you ask the question "Should we fight the Indians first or the Dutch?" you may just as well ask "Do you want to win the game, or would you prefer to spend 200 turns losing it?"

Yours faithfully

Dear Editor,

It has come to the attention of my office that rumors are spreading around the capitol that the Office of Commerce has issued an order allowing for a declaration of war against Gandhi and the Empire of India.

This is a lie. There will be no war with India. In fact, we love India and Gandhi very dearly, and would absolutely never think of attacking our beloved friends and neighbors.

In addition, we ask that all would-be dissenters, protesters, and draft-dodgers of the War of Indian Annexation, as well as spies from India itself, please report immeadiately to convientely placed detention centers at the city's outskirts.

Sincerely,
Octavian X

Letter to the Editor.

Dear Sir,

It appears to me that the discussion surrounding our constitution has stalled for many reasons. For my part however, I was never a "Traditionalist" as has been claimed. I enquired as to the policy and aspirations of this citezens group, and actually found myself diametricaly opposed to their view. Inspection of the early part of this thread will bear out my testimony.

Instead, I have tried, and continue to try, to approach the resolution of issues that may (or indeed may not) exist within the constitution from a purely pragmatic and objective angle. Rather than embroil myself in the tangle of personal prejudice, personality clashes, and oftentimes juvenile ranting in the Traditionalists thread I am attempting to work with the President in proposing ammentdments to the constitution that resolve the root causes of the problems that lie therin. Such an approach is a journey, since it does not allow for the presupposition of solutions. The approach is to identify the real problems and then the root causes of those problems. Once that process is completed, only then can we hope to find real and lasting solutions to the problems.

For all these reasons, it is impossible for me to hold a point a view on what changes need to be made to the constitution, or whether the tradidtional method was better or not. Only when the problems are identified can I begin to form such an opinion.

What was it the Mark Twain once say... Something like "Better to remain silent and appear a fool, than open ones mouth and remove all doubt". When I have an opinion that I can support, I will voice it.

Yours faithfully,

mad-bax

Dear Editor,
It has come to my knowledge that some people are flipflopping over their views. I prefer if we'd keep one opinion and keep it to ourselves, just like what I am going to say. I think that we should be warring with every nation, but after talking to my mistress, I mean wife, I do hope she does not read the letters to the editor section. She said that she would never see me again if I did not change my views, so I think we should be at peace with every nation. My point is, never change you opinion unless it does not suit you any more.

Regard, Classica Musica. Remembering his POV.

The citizens didn't elect classical hero because he is neither charming nor handsom, I for one have seen him get drunk of off his own self image and he was not elected because he didn't receive a plurality of votes.

Yes I agree that this will be quite interesting, howerver I must say that desperate times call for desperate housewives,,, I mean measures. Well it's not my problem since the people have spoken(damn them) and gave that problem to Ashburnham

You got the judicial elections a bit wrong Mr Editor:
I left the CJ position for 2 reasons:
1. It is a very tough position to keep up with
2. It wasnt a very fun position to be in

How onto this term:
There is no law stating the judcial thread had to be posted by the CJ. The thread, I made is only temporary.... It is not last terms court, because Ashburnham and I are in this court. We were looking for a pro term chief justice, but Ashburnham haad to leave, so the court is now in a stalemate. I may or may not appoint pro term justices, but Provolution will be back on April 4th.

Also might I apply for the Political Analyst/reporter?

Could I be the trade reporter?
