A wind blew across the desert. Seldom did wind actually blow in the desert where the nomads were for so long. The Romatov tribe was always ambushed by barbarians and many died in their long marches around the world. After all this time, the Romatovs were ready to settle down. They had been lately campign in caves in two mountains, where directly south was an elevated desert plateu, and below it was more endless desert, and beside it was a river which would have many uses. Dominant One Gioacchino Barretta, as old as he was wise, was ready to settle their tribe down like all the other nations, he heard reports of, had.

The Romatovs were an dog like hierarchy, whoever was smartest, fastest, strongest was the "dominant one," a constantly shifting position of the highest male in the tribe. Originally the dominant one was the strongest, but it had evolved over time to be the smartest as well. At the time of the settling down, Gioacchino Barretta was the dominant one.

Gioacchino's great grandson, Joe Sanbrecher, was eager to settle. While his great grandfather was dominant one, he wanted to gain publicity for his political thoughts about a military-based society and a government with a permanent dominant one until his death, which he called a dictatorship. But Jack had been put down for being "crazy," although he had obtained a cult following of people who believed his theory.

When Gioacchino ordered it, the Romatovs dropped their backpacks and unpacked. As nightfall grew closer, however, to be safe from wolves, Gioacchino ordered the tribe to retreat into the caves in the mountains beside.

Well, weeks turned into months, months into years...and the people of the Romatov tribe had become a society of cave dwellers. Below, where the plateu was, they had a campfire and barracks, a granary built into the side of the mountain, and walls elevating the plateu even more, for defense from wolves and barbarians. The people became fishermen using the nearby river. Jack retired temporariy on his political theory and became a commanding fisherman, the highest in the caste and one of the youngest, only thirteen years of age. He led them far upstream to discover another potential city cite.

Gioacchino was still the dominant one at this point, and he allowed the settlement of another city up north, near iron which could help the army build new weapons. The city of Redburu (meaning Not Your City in a barbarian dialect that the tribe was located near the city, whom wanted to capture the town and repeatedly attacked the settlement when it was being built.) Redburu was also a cave based town.

That night, a division of barbarian archers raided Romatov, the capital cave-city. This was a usual drill, there were raging barbarians allover the pangea like world. And when the barbarians attacked, a gong banger banged the gong twice. The code ment that all women, children, and elderly hide and all soldiers report for service. Most people were outside, in the open desert with only a few buildigns, and were struck by arrows before the reserve men could go to the barracks and get their weapons to fight back. Among them was Gioacchino.

On his deathbed, Jack and his grandfather (Gioacchino's son) Salvatore met with him.

"Son...great grandson...I am dying. The gods are dismissing my duties as the dominant one. Salvatore, you are now going to be ruler of this nation..." Gioacchino spoke.

"Are you sure, dad?" asked Salvatore.

"And Jack...you are brilliant. I only dismissed your theories early to prevent uprising and dispute. But when you become leader, I want you to carry out your dreams...your government system is ingenius...when you are dominant one...when you are dominant one." a tear drop rolled down Gioacchino's eye and he died.

And Jack would never forget these words and would live them out to the fullest extent in the future.

All the settlers could think about was mud. They had been marching through marshes for some 200 years or so. Finally, the found a suitable area to settle a second city, Redburu. It had iron nearby so they could build swordsman for defense against barbarians. It also was by the sea, so they could have even more fish than if they lived by the river and lastly the area was fertile, for farming. Tanner Barretta, the head of the band of settlers, gave the orders to drop their bags and build the town.

"Redburu, in the name of Gioacchino!" He said. He had no clue, however, his great grandfather Gioacchino had been dead for some 100 years now.

Tanner Barretta was governor of the city for a while. He ordered workers to build roads back to the capital, Romatov. He also sent some scouts out to explore new lands.

Two parties of scouts were sent out. One went west, one south. The one that went south ended up in Romatov, where they delivered a message to Joe Sanbrecher (Tanner Barretta's cousin) and then were ordered by Jack to travel further south. The other encountered a new civilization.

Scout Party Two saw in the distance "a lot of little mountains" as they reported. When they got closer, they reported "they're very little mountains."
It turns out that these were houses, and they saw the city of St. Petersburg.

The scouts were welcomed by this civilization into the city. The scouts learned the city was called St. Petersburg, and the country Russia. When the scouts returned home, Tanner took their reports, and ordered the scouts to be killed. "If anyone ever finds out about what's outside our borders," he told, "we'd have rebellions in our caves, and with this the barbarians could move on our cities and we would cease to exist."

Scouts south of Romatov had been lost for years. After Joe Sanbrecher sent them around 2430 B.C., they got lost, and weren't even sure they were heading south anymore. They ended up discovering a new country, the Ottomans.

The Ottomans, unlike the Russians, were unfriendly. They were annoyed with the Romatovs, and told their scouts to leave their borders. The scouts returned home to Romatov to deliver the news.

Salvatore Barretta, dominant one of Romatov, issued the formation of the Army of the Dominant One. It was an official army, not just of hunters and fisherman. The army had about 3,000 archers and 3,000 spearmen. He put Jack in charge of this military, and told Jack to march off to war.

"If you can return alive, and victorious, you will make a great dominant one when you are older." Salvatore told him. With this, Jack packed his bags and left his cave. Down in the valley were 6,000 men ripe for battle. Jack took them and left the city. Soon they would be in the Ottoman Empire, a surprise attack, at war.

"There it is, men. Bursa. It's owned by those grieving Ottomans. Remember, if we win this battle, we'll be on our way to bringing those cowardly Ottomans and their king Osman to his knees. Do it out of hate!" Joe Sanbrecher screamed. His army had been weakened along the way, 160 years of endless marching and Ottoman ambushes had left 4,000 of Jack's men dead. At the gates of Bursa, he had just two thousand archers.

Screaming inside the city of Bursa was heard. It was some time around midnight, and Ottoman scouts spotted Jack's army. Within a minute, the two sides were exchanging arrows. The man next to where Jack was standing was hit right in the stomach and he collapsed, gushing with blood. Disgusted, Jack rode his horse back behind his men's lines. It was darker there, but he could still see the dashes of lines flying through the air; the arrows. Soon Jack noticed there were no more coming from his side.

"It can't be..." Jack was thinking as he rode his horse several yards back. Ahead of him were two Ottoman scouts. He drew his sword and cut both of their arms off. The two scouts were dead and could not report back to the intelligence agency in Istanbul where Jack was. Jack then rode back in the direction of Cherias, a new town founded by his father, Jim Steinbrecher Jr.

Along Jack's trip home, where he was going to regroup his army, he was met by Dutch merchants. The merchants wanted to know the secrets of iron working and would give the secrets of ceremonial burial. Jack knew if he declined that there would be tensions with the Netherlands, so Jack reluctantly accepted. He then got back to Cherias and regrouped his army.

"This time we will win! We are blessed by the dominant one. Win this one for him, and make Osman cringe to the knowlege that we are dominant to him." Jack said. He rode off again, confident (again) that he could win the war with the Ottomans.
