What gets you into the cinema? What gets you to hand over your hard-earned/easy gotten cash to the greasy teenager at the counter? Is it the trailers? If so, is it the image they project (i.e. action-packed)? Is it the storyline? Is it the screenwriter? Is it the actors? Is it the director? Is it the producers or production company? Is it because you show the previous film(s)? Is it because your friends/family said it was good? Is it because a movie critic(s) said it was good? Is it because of the general hype surrounding the film? Is it because you have nothing else to do? Is it because you like sitting in a large dark room surrounded by strangers? What are your reasons? Also, could you place them in order of importance (1 - being the most important).

Things that get me into a theater:
1) Female frontal nudity.
2) Female nudity.
3) Long scenes of nudity.
4) Scenes of nudity from actresses whose names I know.
5) Star Trek.
6) Ridley Scott.
7) Harrison Ford.
8) Mel Gibson.
9) Chick flicks depend on who my date is...

1) If I really want to see the film
2) Whether I am vaguely interested in seing the film
2) If any of my friends want to see it

Meant to have two "2"'s

Maybe you should get a DVD-player.

More privacy to be holding on your own ... [smiley]

Funny, we women don't have smileys.

I thought you had two of them. :ack:

Anyhow, the only thing that gets me there are other people asking me to go there. I wouldn't go on my own.

Actually, I am really a guy, I was just posting the list (the first points anyways) to spare the burden for other guys to mention the obvious.

Anyway, I do go to the theatre on my own sometimes because I regularly cry in theatres and don't care to do so in front of friends. I also like to pick films that (I hope) are not mindless formulaic crap coming off the generic factory line. I do see such films on a regular basis with friends, but only if the reviews are good from a critic I "trust".

If I like the sound of the movie and if someone else i know does too.

what i do like:
1) plot
2) actors that i know and like (jackie chan, ed norton, johnny depp, brad pitt etc)
3) guns/vampires/speedboats etc

i also check out reviews on sbs's movie show, it is generally pretty accurate.

Hey, I used to work at the movie theatre! And I am not greasy in any way. :p

In no particular order...

1) A particularly bad movie combined with friends.
2) A movie that has deep themes/poses philosophical questions, etc.
3) A movie that is particularly well-done visually. I can really only think of anime for examples for this one.
4) I don't know what to say...a great movie! Something that is well-done in all aspects.

I don't like to go to cinemas/theaters, reminds me of the assassinations.

I go if I'm bored. It's fun to annoy people at the theatre. Coughing, sneezing, making noises with papers and stuff, throwing pop corns... :) Just generally be a pain in the @$$ for the rest of the audience.

So what?

Does that mean your ultimate movie would be a Star trek romance, directed by Ridley Scott with Harrison Ford playing Dr Spock, stranded on a planet without any clothes?

Mainly the opportunity to scout for new victims and/or pounce upon them whilst they sit enthralled by the children's feature flickering on the screen.

For discussing the film afterwards. This usually also requires that some friends come along, and that the film is more or less good concerning dialogue and plot.

It's about sharing an experience.

Some movies are meant to be seen alone, and sometimes, if no one else wants to see the film I'd like to see, I go see it alone, but I prefer if I can talk with someone about it afterwards. Depending on the film, you sometimes can't talk about it - if a film was so good, you just agree with everyone that any word about it would devalue it.

(e.g.: "Depuis qu'Otar est parti")

1: Say I walk by the cinema and I see something interesting. If I don't have anything particularly interesting to do, I go in... have a look... get disgusted over the hollywood-type happy-end / no-brain movies...
Go To 1

;)

I don't go to the movies very often. I dislike the crowds and all the babies crying, cell phones ringing, and people talking while I'm trying to watch whatever it is. Usually I'm dragged there by my better half to watch some sort of action/adventure film.
